...dude, Dumbledore is gay, JK said so herself, you can't just handwave that because it wasn't ~explicitly stated.~ Not everyone is defined by their sexuality.

you don’t get it.

okay, look, i love harry potter. so much. i know there’s a lot of “dumbledore didn’t need to be outed because his character didn’t revolve around his sexuality!!!!” wank from people who are probably straight or maybe not because hey, even i as a young closeted queer kid was wont to agree. and it sounds so nice! “not defined by sexuality” is just what we all want to hear.

but in this case, that’s an ideology that really needs to be dismantled, because it’s so condescending and gives such a big green light to erasure that it makes my stomach hurt,

if you haven’t read percy jackson or its successor series, the heroes of olympus, all you really need to know is that it has one very important thing in common with harry potter! it’s colorful escapism — a pick-me-up for kids when they’re at their lowest, all wrapped up in a huge cast with loads of great characters. in short, it’s a series for underdogs.

this is where things get a little unfortunate.
