I woke up this morning, looked at the world and cried. Something I haven’t done since childhood. So I decided to write this as a person, not black, not Caribbean , not American just simply a person. I have heard friends talk about “all lives matter” but if it did then there wouldn’t be a need for “black lives matter” and just incase your ignorance made you miss it, the “to” is implied it is “black lives matter to” to-day, and to-morrow. How can we live in a world where a pet holds higher value than a man just because that man is of a different ethnicity? How can we condone the shooting of a person in front of their family whilst they are unarmed? How can someone get murdered in their home and nothing happens to the perpetrator? How can you fight for the humane treatment of mass murderers but watch in silence as a boy is killed for walking through a neighborhood? Some say that these people do not contribute to society, but 70% (90 million or so)of the people that refuse to work and just live off of the system are are not black but white. You say they deserve it, would your son deserve to be murdered just for being white, treated with disgust just for being white? Don’t get me wrong if you are responding with force then I’m all for returning that force to maintain order but these people that black America cries for weren’t armed, they weren’t fighting the officers, they were handcuffed, and calm. And while there is a sadness lingering in my heart, and I do feel hate. I find myself overwhelmed with pity. I pity you because you live in fear of everyone different, I pity you because that fear drives your foolish ignorance, I pity you because you are afraid of what could be, you are pitiful in your thoughts and actions. For only cowards attack the weak, only cowards feel powerful when it takes 4 men to beat one helpless man. I am not afraid of cowards for you hold no power other than what we give to you, I do fear for the innocent children who’s futures are unsure. What I do know is that you will not always be the majority and one day when you become the minority, do you think your history will be swept away? Do you think that you have earned the right of equality, and understanding? Stop giving in to the hate that you were taught, be open the love that was isolated by that hate. If you don’t then one day history may repeat itself and the tables may be turned then.
Justice is all we ask, compassion is what we need.
