The One I Love || A Set Me Free Drabble

So on the road trip back from San Antonio, I ended up writing two drabbles for you. This one came about because of the song The One I Love by Greg Laswell. It's just a letter, one she would find in the morning when she wakes up, waiting for her neatly on the dresser in her room.

Dearest Hina, This is unexpected, I know. When you wake in the morning to find this, I'll be long gone. Please don't waste time looking for me; you don't find me. Chances are, you'll never see or hear from me again. 

I'm leaving, and I don't know where I'm going. I don't know how long I'll be gone. I guss we'll see. I'm probably not going to come back. I've done too many terrible things, Hina. So many people are dead because of me. And in that city, where I ruled with a fist of iron, I will do nothing but remember the things I've done. I simply can't stay there, not if I wish to change as you want me to. Like I want to.

And in truth, I'm running from you, Hina. You and your beautiful strange eyes, the laziest attitude I have ever seen, and the most loving soul anyone could possess. I'm running because you're too good and I could never possibly deserve you. Someone better for you will come around, and I'll lose you to him. Or on the other hand, I don't want to be the reason you don't go with the better guy and miss out on such a better life.

I held you captive. I forced you to trade your life for your father's, and I caused you nothing but pain and sorrow. Why you have still chosen to be with me, I will never understand. Of all of the terrible things I have done, I will never feel as much guilt over anything as I do over what I've done to you.

And I can't live with that. I can't live with that guilt and so long as I see you, it will never leave me. It'll follow me around like a cloud. To leave it, I must leave you.

And if I should fail and fall back into my old ways, I don't want you to be around. I don't want to see the disappointment in your eyes, or ever have a chance to hurt you again. I have ruined your life enough, you don't need to have me mess it up any further.

I love you, Hina, I really do. That's why I'm leaving. I will only bring you down. I will hur you, disappoint you, hold you back, and bring sorrow and darkness to your doorstep. Leaving is the only good thing I can do for you.

The mansion, my money, my staff; all are yours. Do as you wish with them, I don't much care. Take care, Hina, and please live the best life you can. This is goodbye, possibly forever. But I must thank you for what youv done to me. I would have had no chance at redemption if not for you. I never would have thought to change. You started this change in me, a feat that I would have considered impossible once. I am sorry to leave you like this, with no goodbye but a letter, but I would never be able to manage a face to face farewell.
