For pronouns I usually use he or they, but you can call me pretty much anything as long as youāre not a dick about it. (Except it/its, Iām not a fan of those.)
Character and author are both 21+, so please keep that in mind.

Iāll do my best to tag any higher-stakes posts accordingly, but if youād like something specific tagged, please let me know!))
My Ariados and Scolipede have both been trying to claim custody of this little guy since I got it set up in the incubator. They both seem to have decided that theyāre each its parent, and arenāt fond of the other being around it. Theyāve been tolerating each other well enough, though!
And if youād like, I can give you a tour of the sanctuary while youāre here! No pressure, though; Iām sure youāve got a lot going on with organizing all this!
.....There's one clue, though. If I hold one and concentrate, I can mostly guess what type it might be when it hatches. More sure of some than others but..... it's something.
Here's the list.
Fairly sure it's Grass type. Something about it feels..... old, sort of? Or maybe mysterious.
Probably Water type, might be Steel type. Feels royal.
Tentative Flying type. Whatever's in there definitely has feathers, though.
Benefits of using psychic abilities to try to predict what's in the eggs are recognizing Psychic types for sure. Definitely a dual type too, but the other half is more mundane. Normal or Fighting?
Another egg like the last one. Everything about these feels like it comes in twos.
.....Know I just said I could recognize Psychic types for sure. Definitely recognized it in the last two. This one only might be, though. Could also be Fire.
Don't really feel any element to this one. Normal or Fighting? Feels lucky.
Normal, or maybe Fire. The fire is faint, though.
Either Bug or Grass. Sort of... innocent?
.......Definitely Poison. All I can get is "toxic."
Fire or Electric. Either way, it's full of energy.
your character doesn't need to be someone who otherwise interacts with rene to ask for one of the eggs.
some of the eggs have been reserved privately in advance, but besides that it's first come first serve. that said if you really want one that's already taken, let me know and another of that type can turn up.
Hey there! I know we havenāt spoken before, but I stumbled across your post, and Iād be interested in adopting the possibly-bug egg, if itās not already spoken for!

[A video is embedded. It takes place in a forested area, and the camera bobs and sways occasionally throughout. Off-screen, a distorted voice can be heard, speaking quietly.]
"All right, Brandy, is everything good to go?"
<Yes, Master Foxglove! Everything izz ready and we are rolling!>
[A slight sigh.] "You know you don't have to call me that."
<I know, Master Foxglove! But you know that I'm going to anyway!>
"...Yeah, that's true. All right, well..." [A pause for the speaker to clear their throat.] "Hello, Rotumblr! I figured if I was going to show off some of the Pokemon in the sanctuary here, I might as well get some videos of them, for better immersion and engagement or...whatever the terms are. Anyway. Look over there."
[Foxglove presumably gestures off-screen, because the camera moves to peer over the crest of the hill the two are on. Below, a good ways away, is a Sawsbuck, with a small herd of Deerling keeping close. The camera zooms in as Foxglove begins to speak again.]
"We've got some Deerling and Sawsbuck living on the sanctuary, and I thought it'd be nice to get some footage of them before they get fully into their autumn coats. You can see them turning there, the green becoming more yellow and orange-ish in places, right? And the Sawsbuck's leaves on its antlers are turning as well. It won't be long now before they get into the rutting season, and then it'll be a lot more dangerous to be around them. I am going to see if I can get a slightly better view for you guys, though. Hang tight."
[The video cuts to another scene--still in the same forest, but the immediate landscape has changed somewhat. The ground is flatter here, and the camera is up higher from the ground, bobbing from side to side as Brandy seems to try and stay focused on two Sawsbuck in the distance that are clashing, butting heads and locking antlers. Clicks of antlers and rustles of leaves are faintly audible, along with the occasional bellow.]
"I didn't think I'd see this quite this early! These two aren't fighting full force, just battling for territory. The one on the right there has smaller antlers, so it's likely younger--odds are it'll lose and be chased off by the older Sawsbuck. There's not nearly as many here in the sanctuary as you might find in a standard forest, though we do occasionally get wild Sawsbuck that find their way in and decide to stay, at least for a while."
[Foxglove falls silent, and the only audio for a while is from the competing Sawsbuck.]
"...It's nice knowing I'm sharing this with other people. I think I might do more videos like this, if you'd like to see them. Assuming Brandy's on board, that is?"
<Of course I am! It'zz going to be a fun project, I can tell already! And it getzz you out of your shell!>
"I don't have a shell, Brandy."
<I meant it metaphorically! A metaphorical shell!>
"I know what you meant. I still don't have a shell."
Just a reminder to all of you NOT to get Dark and Ghost types for the aesthetic this Halloween season without knowing how to care for them or I will let my Talonflame shit on your car. ā¤ļøš
This goes for poison types as well. The amount of people attempting to adopt a Spinarak from my program skyrockets this time of year, usually because they'll look "Scary" in the fake spiderwebs on their lawn.
[A picture is attached of a notably larger-than-average female Luxray. Her ears, rather than the usual round shape, have a slight point to them, and the black fur on her back legs is longer than is typical. She also sports a couple yellow stripes on her back legs, rather than the solid light blue that is found on most Luxray. She is looking towards the camera, body relaxed but somehow still seeming to preen a bit under the attention of the lens.]
Sparkler's the first Pokemon I ever had; she's been with me since I was a kid. She can be protective of me, but underneath the intimidating appearance she's a sweetheart (and absolutely spoiled rotten). Her favorite thing to do when she's bored is find me and force herself into my lap, regardless of what other task I might be doing.
And she might act aloof sometimes, but she's generally really good with other Pokemon--she's kind of become the "mom friend" of my team, you could say.
Also, she loves scritches. Find her favorite spots and she'll love you forever.
[Video attached. It begins in a cozy-looking dining room area, and a somewhat glitchy-sounding artificial voice can be heard.]
Greetingzz, everyone! My name is Brandy! I am a Rotom!
Master Foxglove izz buzy at the moment, so I'm going to showcase some Pokemon at the sanctuary! We'll start with Edgar!
[The camera rather quickly swoops over to where the Arbok is once again lounging in his bed. He raises his head to the camera, flicking his tongue with a quiet hiss.]
Hello, Edgar! I'm making a video!
Master Foxglove hazz already shown you guyz Edgar, but I like him and he'zz close by! So here he izz again!
Edgar is one of Master Foxglove'zz personal Pokemon! He'z been with him for a long time! I'm actually surprized he'zz not sleeping somewhere closer to him right now, but I guess he wants to keep me company!
I'd like to show you Luxray next, but she'z probably with Master Foxglove at the moment! So I'm going to go outside to the sanctuary proper, and then we can seeee--
[The camera makes another jarring, sudden swoop towards a door that looks to lead outside, but then pauses. From a doorway that seems to lead into a hallway, a muffled voice can be heard, speaking in an inquisitive tone. The video abruptly ends.]
Kalos Exebition Presentation: Hybrids, True and False.
[ A video file is embedded. It starts just as Professor Amaryllis walks on stage leaning hard into his cane, finally sporting the white coat that signifies a pokemon professor. The crowd is quiet but attentive, a scattering of applause here and there as they position themselves behind the microphone. Thereās an energy to them, an excited grin on his face and his hand movements are just a little exaggerated as he speaks:
āHello! Iām Professor Amaryllis, though many of you may know me as the Wild Guy.ā There's a pause as a portion of the audience applaud or yell, and amy chuckles, āIām here today to represent the Goldenrod Ecological Society, but more importantly, Iām here to talk to you about a phenomenon that has been gaining popularity as of late, but is understudied, and there's a lot of misinformation surrounding it. I would like to talk to you all about hybrid pokemon.ā
Amy clicks a button on a remote he had kept in his pocket and a slide comes up on the screen behind him that reads: WHAT IS A HYBRID POKEMON?Ā
āNow, what is a hybrid pokemon? To many of you this may seem like a stupid question, a hybrid pokemon is any pokemon with parents of two different species, right? Well, not exactly. The term you are thinking of here is crossbred pokemon. All hybrid pokemon are crossbred pokemon, but most crossbred pokemon are not hybrid pokemon. In fact, less than ten percent of crossbred pokemon fall into the category of hybrid at all!Ā
You see, when pokemon crossbreed, most of the time the offspring will be relatively unremarkable members of the motherās species. They may gain some variation in color or pattern, they may have an affinity for moves of the fathers typing, they may even gain moves that are not normally within the moveset of the parent, what we call egg moves!ā
Another click of the button and the slide changes, now reading: FALSE HYBRIDS.
āFalse hybrids, as we call them in scientific circles, make up the vast majority of hybrid pokemon. They are sometimes marketed as āBreedsā or āFancyā versions of the pokemon they are, but what they are in simple terms are crossbred pokemon with a much stronger influence of the fatherās species. These pokemon display changed physiology, can display new patterns and colors, may be able to learn much more of the other parentās moveset and, uncommonly, may even be classified as a different typing than the mother species!
Now it would not be an Amaryllis presentation if I did not bring in āwildā new pokemon for you all to meet, so Iāve brought a few pokemon from my own studies to act as examples, and I hope you'll give them a warm welcome.āĀ
Amy reaches down and grabs three pokeballs from his pocket, each marked with a number, and releases three quite unusual Ariados onto the stage. They look around stretching their legs and posing for the audience. Amy uses a clicker and feeds each of them a treat.Ā
āEach of these pokemon is a very good example of a false hybrid. As you can see, while they are each incredibly distinctive, unique in their shapes and colors and even abilities, each can, relatively easily, be identified as an ariados. They are legally classified that way too, registered as āAriados Crossā and would even be legal to use in league battles! While these pokemon are unusual, it is not unheard of to see them in battle rotations, or popping up here and there in daycares and with breeders. These pokemon in particular were a happy side effect of the breeding I do to study genetic inheritance.
Our first Ariados here, the Heracross cross, has an affinity for fighting type moves, and has proven to be capable of learning quite a few fighting type moves despite his type being unchanged. The second is a Ledian cross, and while she may look the least assuming of the three, her speed could put almost any other Ariados to shame, as well as her signature air cutter. The third, a Leavanny cross, is special in that her typing is actually poison/grass, dropping the bug typing entirely! You truly never know what you will get with a false hybrid.Ā
Usually, that is. One of the bigger distinctions between false and true hybrids is the false hybrid keeping the ability to breed, and pass down their traits. By breeding pokemon resulting from the same crosses together some breeders have standardized certain pokemon ābreedsā and are able to predictably recreate the results, truly incredible, donāt you agree?ā
Amy recalls the pokemon on the stage and with another click of the button the slide changes, now reading: TRUE HYBRIDS.
āNow here is where things get a little more complex. True hybrids are rare, very rare, and because of this there have not been extensive studies on this subject, though we are slowly trying to improve our base of knowledge on this subject.ā
Amy reaches into their pocket, pulling out a green and red custom ball, and releases a pokemon onto the stage. The pokemon in question is⦠unique. Although perhaps the general shape of the others, sort of, it is absolutely not an Ariados, the spikes down its back, barbed tail, and wings setting it apart.Ā
āThis is Candy. Candy was the first true hybrid that I ever worked with, and he sparked my interest in the science and genetics behind these pokemon. As you can see just by looking at him, he is not an Ariados. He is also not a Yanmega, like his father. He is something completely new, you couldn't even register him for official leagues if you wanted to. You may still be thinking to yourself āI want one of those!āā there's a pause for laughter āI promise you, you do not.ā
āUnfortunately, the drawback of being something new is that there is no care guide for these pokemon. There is no information to draw on, no experts to fall back on when things go wrong, when they get hurt or sick. Most true hybrids come with unexpected hurdles. Some of them have debilitating health issues. Some of them have intensely specialized diets. Some of them have very specific care requirements. And sadly, sometimes even with the best of care, even when you do everything in your power to take care of these pokemon, they simply fail to thrive. Hell, a good portion of them donāt ever fully develop.ā There's a seriousness to Amy in this moment, a weight to these words.Ā
āMost trainers simply are not equipped with the time, energy, and resources to care for a pokemon like this. Candy is one of the luckier ones, heās been relatively healthy and has helped us greatly in our research, but even that was in part because of the time and resources we could pour into understanding him and helping him thrive.ā
āWe are making strides in understanding why these things happen, how to more reliably predict how to care for them, and when it is simply the kinder option to not allow them to suffer through living. I hope to continue helping with this research alongside the GES, and I hope that anyone interested in these subjects will contact our outreach department. Myself and a few other representatives will be available for questions in just a moment here. Thank you all, and have a good dayā
Amy smiles and waves, and with a small gesture of their hand Candy flits his wings and flies the short distance to cling to Amyās shoulder and back, nearly unbalancing them with his weight as the professor walks offstage. Video Ends.]
I have some familiarity with false hybrids (and I should probably start using that term to make things clearer, huh?), but this is the first time Iāve seen a true hybrid! Fascinating stuff.
Wonderful presentation, Professor! Thanks for sharing this here!
[A picture of an Arbok curled up in a large pet bed. His head is raised and he is looking at the camera in a way that looks both sleepy and mildly confused.]
