Cerise opens the map on her phone, dragging it to show Mare the newly opened Wild Zones: 15, 16, and 17.
She should've done something earlier. Said something. But doing something now is the next best thing. She knows how hard it is to be thrust into a new universe suddenly, and she doesn't want Mare to be alone for this.
".......Which one first?"

Mare fidgeted with her Rainbow Feather pendant. Normally she kept it hidden under her shirt, but the new clothes Cerise's friend had given her didn't really permit that. It wasn't a super big deal, it had just been a while since it had been on full display.
"15 would make the most sense, right?" She suggested. "You know, tackle em in order." Her eyes drifted to Cerise's wrist. "Congratulations on getting a Mega Ring, by the way." She held up her right hand and tapped the Key Stone in her own Mega Glove twice. "We match. Sorta." She chuckled.
Cerise nods, and smiles a bit at the "matching" comment.
".........Got Mega Ring while ago now. Nice to have."
Mare nodded. "Yeah."
This was nice. It was nice to spend time with someone. It was nice to spend time with Cerise.
"I know I already said it, but thank you." Mare said. "Just... for being here. I know it seems kinda silly to thank you for what's basically random chance but I could have wound up somewhere entirely different, and then I'd be alone. Just me and Shiruto against a whole new world. And I don't want to do that again. So, thanks, because of you I don't feel so alone."
"..........Not easy being in new universe. Especially if not used to it."
Cerise begins walking towards the Wild Zone, looking back at Mare to make sure the two of them stay together.
"Glad can be here for you. Alone is........."
Mare followed Cerise, making sure to stick close. Lumiose was a lot bigger than any of the cities back home. Even with her Aura senses she was liable to get lost without a guide. Though she could always find her way back to Hotel Z. The old man who ran it and his Floette had an... unusual Aura.
Mare nodded, silent for once in her life. She knew how that sentence ended. It was best not to think about it, anyways. That was why she was here, after all. To distract from the whole... situation.
She should probably change topics. Or, would it be better to take a page out of Cerise's book and just stay silent? She had to admit, it was kinda nice. On the other hand, Mare liked to talk, and there was more to talk about than just idle small talk. They were here to do a task, after all.
"Any guesses on what Pokemon were gonna find when we get there?" She asked.
Cerise considers.
"........Poison, maybe?"
Before too long, the two of them arrive at the Wild Zone. An alpha Gourgeist is visible through the entrance barrier, with some Pumpkaboo around it.
".......Still could be some Poison types."
Mare watched the Pokemon with some intrigue. They were ones she'd never seen before. Which wasn't surprising, there were a lot of Pokemon in Lumiose she'd never seen before. Different region, different Pokemon. Possibly different world, different Pokemon? The one thing she did know was that the big one was an Alpha.
"Times like these I wish I had a Pokedex." She muttered, resolving to ask her uncle for one when she got home. Then, loud enough for Cerise to hear. "This is the part where I sound like a tourist and ask," She put on her best impression of an old Educational Show segment she remembered from when she was a kid. "'Who's that Pokemon?'" She broke out into quiet giggles. "Sorry, that was terrible, but seriously, who are these guys and what should I look out for when that Alpha inevitably attacks us?"
"Small ones are Pumpkaboo. Alpha is evolved form, Gourgeist. Ghost/Grass."
Cerise sends Amethyst out of its Pokéball. The Sableye regards Mare with a curious look before focusing its attention on the wild Pokémon.
".......Based on map, pretty small Wild Zone. Should be able to be mostly in and out."
Mare's expression shifted to one of concern as Cerise explained. There was bad luck and then there was this.
"I don't say this often." She said slowly. "But I might be outmatched here." She took out Shiruto's Pokeball and held it up. "Shiruto is my only viable Pokemon, and he doesn't know a single move with even neutral effectiveness on that type combo. He can probably brute strength the Pumpkaboo, but that Gourgeist is going to body him if he tries. And as for myself..." She opened and closed her free hand a few times. "I learned a long time ago that I can't punch ghosts."
Cerise nods slowly.
"Only viable..... who else with you?"
Mare put away Shiruto's ball and dug around in her bag. She pulled out a new ball, one she'd marked with a red circle with a slash through it. It was the only Pokeball she owned with a lock on it. Despite being nothing more than an ordinary Pokeball, it gave off slightly disquieting vibes that made Mare uneasy.
"Their name is Legion." She said grimly. "They're a Spiritomb, a very powerful, very malevolent one. I've been trying to help them reform, but it's slow going, and I don't feel comfortable releasing them in a populated area, even within the boundaries of a Wild Zone. The only reason they're here at all is I always keep their Pokeball on me for safe keeping."
She put the Pokeball away. No point keeping it out longer than she needed to.
That makes sense. Cerise considers a moment, then opens the box app on her phone and selects a Pokémon, dismissing the warning that only six battling Pokémon are allowed by League regulations. A moment later, a ball materializes, which she hands to Mare.
".....Volcano, Camerupt. Still wouldn't try battling alpha, but might help if get in fight."
"Thanks." Mare said, accepting the ball from Cerise.
She spun it around on her finger and then tossed it in the air, releasing Volcano. It was a good choice as far as Pokemon to lend Mare went. Camerupt was a Pokemon she had a lot of experience with and she appreciated the familiarity.
"Hey there." She said to the large Pokemon. "My name's Mare. Looks like we'll be working together for now."
She turned back to Cerise, feeling much more confident. She gestured to the Wild Zone entrance. "Well, you're the one with more experience here so, apres vous." Unbeknownst to her, she'd completely mangled the pronunciation.
Cerise nods, politely ignoring the issues with Mare's pronunciation as she presses the button to temporarily lower the entrance barrier.
".....Holding her Mega Stone, so will be able to Mega Evolve if connect with her."
As soon as the barrier is down, she heads inside, carefully ducking out of view of the wild Pokemon while moving as quickly as she can to explore.
Mare followed after Cerise, doing a completely unnecessary combat roll into the nearest patch of grass. Her Uncle would love this. Well, he'd hate the Wild Zones, but he'd love the field research part.
Mare spent a lot of time in the wilderness. She had done a lot of stealth training with Kyoshi. And also, she literally had Aura Senses. So she liked to consider herself pretty good at stealth and being aware of her surroundings. Meaning that either the whole city/wild hybrid thing was throwing her off (not entirely unlikely) or she was still way more rattled than she thought because, in a move she would probably be embarrassed by for years to come, she stepped on a stick, which made a loud crack.
She inhaled sharply. She didn't need Aura Senses to know the Gourgeist had definitely heard that and was now staring straight at her. She let out a deep sigh, running her hand down her face.
"Quaza." She muttered. "I am so, so sorry."
At which point, she leaped out of the way of an incoming Shadow Ball.
A Shadow Ball which is, as it turns out, wildly off target, as the Gourgeist takes a blow from behind from Amethyst's Shadow Claw right as it launches the attack. The Gourgeist reels, turning its attention to the closer threat.
Cerise and Amethyst stand on the opposite side of the Gourgeist to Mare, staring it down silently. Without breaking her gaze, Cerise lifts the wrist with the Mega Ring and touches the stone with her other hand, and in moments Amethyst is engulfed in energy, emerging as a Mega Sableye.
Mare felt a rush of adrenaline course through her body. This was more her speed. Sure she wasn't the best at battling, but that didn't make it any less exhilarating. Plus she had Cerise to, well, in this case, Mare would probably be the one watching her back.
Cerise was right that she and Volcano probably couldn't take on the Gourgeist. Especially because, great at making friends as she was, Mare didn't think she'd had enough time to sufficiently bond with Volcano, meaning Mega Evolution probably wasn't happening. So, best to leave that to Cerise.
Instead, they could make sure that Cerise and Amethyst (who, side note, looked really cool) were unbothered during their battle. The Gourgeist was surrounded by Pumpkaboo after all, and Mare had no doubt they'd try to assist their Alpha.
"Okay, Volcano, we've gotta keep those Pumpkaboo off Cerise and Amethyst's back." She told the Camerupt. "You ready?" Volcano nodded. "Alright, Lava Plume!"
Volcano bellowed and two plumes of lava erupted out of the volcanoes on its back. They arced down and hit two of the Pumpkaboo, KOing one of them. The other managed to pull through, though.
"Persistent little bugger." Mare said, smirking audaciously.
Looking incredibly peeved, the Pumpkaboo began spinning around, the tuft of hair on its head glowing red and black. It reached a speed so fast that it was just a red and black blur and spun right into Volcano in the strangest form of Brutal Swing Mare had ever seen. Thankfully, it was only enough to make Volcano briefly stumble.
Mare definitely had the Pumpkaboo under control. Good.
The Gourgeist uses Power Whip, but with a small motion from Cerise, Amethyst is able to dodge out of the way quickly enough to avoid the brunt of it. A moment later, he follows up with what looks like a Fire Punch, though there's no audible command from his trainer. It's a powerful blow, but alpha Pokémon are known for their endurance.
"Flash Cannon!" Mare shouted.
The Pumpkaboo that had attacked Volcano took a point blank blast from the Flash Cannon. Probably overdoing it considering the thing was already more than halfway to being KO'd, but it worked. It went down.
Mare took a moment to check what Cerise was doing. She wasn't worried (well, she was a little, but that was instinctual, she knew Cerise would be fine), just curious. She liked watching Cerise battle, it was very cool, she was very cool.
An annoyed huff from Volcano reminded her she had her own battle to worry about. There was more than two Pumpkaboo. She did not have time to get distracted.
"Focus Energy!" Mare shouted. "Then Lava Plume!"
Hopefully that would reduce the chance of anymore Pumpkaboo managing to endure Volcano's attacks. Two more Pumpkaboo got toasted.
Cerise and Amethyst continue their dance with the alpha, moving in sync to avoid its attacks and follow up with super effective ones. Amethyst knowing a whole three moves effective against Gourgeist, Shadow Claw, Fire Punch, and Ice Punch, makes this much easier than it would be otherwise, especially with Mare keeping away any distractions.
Eventually, it seems like the Gourgeist is finally on its last legs. Cerise can't afford to look away for too long, but she does look over for a second to check on Mare.

I'm not really an expert. But. It might help if they have some way to ask for help. Discreetly. Some kind of signal or something. That way either you or someone else who's helping can just. Be aware that they're not feeling well. And. Do something about it probably. Depending on the situation.
