anyone of any faith of any class can walk into any gurdwara in the world and get a free hot nutritious homemade vegetarian meal. it doesn't matter who you are or what your situation is, if you walk in and need help someone there will help you. anyone can offer to volunteer in the kitchens to cook food for the community and be taught how to do so by other volunteers in the community. if it is a larger gurdwara it will very likely be open 24 hours a day.

you will not be proselytized to, no one will try to convert you, sikhs don't seek conversions it's a fundamental part of our religion to respect religious freedom and autonomy and to take cake of other people simply because it is the right thing to do, not because we expect anything in return. we only ask that you cover your head while inside (simple head coverings are provided if you don't have one, usually just a bandana or light scarf to drape over your head) out of respect.

you can literally just walk in and go to the kitchen and you will be fed. every single gurdwara simultaneously functions as a volunteer-based community kitchen open to absolutely anyone because every single person deserves to be fed. if you live in an area with a gurdwara and you are hungry and need help please know that that is a resource that exists.

One of my biggest pet-peeves is when nonblack ppl (especially nonblack poc) completely ignore that there are black ppl of pretty much every ethnicity/culture. Like there are black latinxs, black Asians, black Jews, etc…So if you are complaining about the hyper visibility of black ppl by saying “but what about my ppl”, remember when you say “my ppl” some of those ppl are black too and most likely they are treated like shit within their culture as well.

Hi! I’m Rhys and i am your local frog who just had a shit day at work. I work as a Case Manager at a mental health facility in NYC.

 After having to call the police and EMS no less than three times because 2 different clients went fucking batshit out of nowhere, one decided to beat the shit out of my car and snapped off my windshield. Also, my sideview mirrors were stolen.

Granted, that client is legally blind and was having a full psychotic episode so i know i was not targeted, nor was there any malice behind it. Regardless, i am pissed.

I spoke to my supervisor and because this sort of thing has never really happened before, he has no idea if the company will cover it. But without a functional car, getting to work is gonna be really difficult and I don’t get paid for another 2 weeks (assuming i can get to work on time), so if you’d like to help, here’s your standard donation post! Help a desperate Two-Spirit Out!

I hate to ask for this but this should be the last time I ever need to do so since my job starts December 4: 

Long story short, I was supposed to be at my aunt’s house until my job started, when she would feed me and give me money to take care of my bills, but rough weather meant my transportation there got cancelled and my aunt couldn’t make it over the mountain pass to pick me up, and now I’m in my house with no food and with a student loan bill of $250 (payment for December and November since I overdrafted on my bank account when they took November payment and my bank refunded it and fined me) due December 1st. So, if I can get $250 + $40-$60 for grocery money before my job starts (The training is in Vancouver and they’re covering my transportation and food for two weeks so I’ll be okay) that would save me after having the carpet yanked out from under my feet.
