Clarke and Lexa by each otherâs side in season 2 (pt. 2)
Ohhhmyyyyy, idk why but I get so pissed when blarks say Bellamy has been by Clarke's side since the beginning and totally invalidate Lexa being a smol gay sweetheart and respecting and appreciating everything about her. Bellamy is literally the biggest dick and treats Clarke like horse shit, mocking her, telling her people die when she's in charge, making her cry. M'just sayin
Iâm not sure heâs the biggest dick if Iâm being objective. Pike is a bigger Dick. Jaha. Titus. Cage and Dr. Tsing. Iâd even argue that Jasper is the most unlikable character on the show. Bell has mistreated Clarke. Almost let her die. Threatened to cut her wrist off, made her cry, yada yada yada.Â
But none of this is why I would argue heâs been her constant headache. Itâs more so how short sighted he is and the things heâs done that has directly led to peril for their ppl and grounders alike.Â
And âby her sideâÂ
Where? When? Theyâve spent most of their time on the series apart. They were adversaries in the beginning. Clarke got captured by the mountain. They spent very little time together when they were reunited. Clarke was fretting over Finn. Clarke sent Bell into the mountain [Iâm fully aware it was his suggestion but Clarke made the call â and he followed because heâs a follower with zero identity]. He was there while she was unwittingly falling for Lexa while just barely moving past what happened with Finn. Once reunited they separated yet again for 3 full months. At which time Clarke was banging grounders come on i cant be the only one who thinks Niylah wasnât the first piece of ass she got out there and he was *falling* for Gina. Clarke decided to stay in Polis so they were separated yet again for about 2 and a half weeks. During which she gave into her deep, complicated feelings for Lexa. There was a brief reunion where he berated her for taking care of her mental health after the fall of the mountain, made her cry, and handcuffed her for âher own goodâ then she tazed him and went back to Lexa. Then they were reunited shortly after her loverâs untimely death. At which point she was mourning said death and trying desperately to save her ppl.
Once again I must ask. By her side *constantly* when? Her *one* constant how? The only constant he has been is consistently problematic.Â
You somehow mange to articulate my feelings re: Clarke and Lexa so much better than I ever could, honestly my blog should just redirect to yours. Your tags about moving on being a prime example. Clexa is the perfect combination of everything I ever wanted from a fictional story, it only took 30 years for me to get it. So yeah I'm not quite ready to part with them yet or ever if I'm honest. Lexa in particular. I mean when will we ever get a character like her again.
Itâs a bizarre kind of serendipity that this pairing â so much of this canon â was created by accident by people who had no idea what they had, but Iâm not going to knock it (⊠much) if it gives me something that feels so vital and complex and⊠and real? Clarke and Lexa arenât just cute together, or smile at each other a lot, or have great chemistry; they want things, big things, and while these things are part of the same whole the two characters often clash over priorities and methodology and⊠But in the end, theyâre still both working for a better world. And trying to love each other through that.Â
Thatâs not just rare for a teen television drama. Or an f/f pairing. Thatâs rare. And we got it, we got to enjoy it. We now know itâs possible, to have central pairings between two women which do so much, and at the same time be openly acknowledged for what they are.Â
So they ruined it. But they canât make us forget what we had, or what we now know we deserve.Â
10 gifs of Lexa smiling. :â)
Hey, this question honestly isn't supposed to be as inflammatory as it sounds but I've always wondered in terms of Lexa how do you think the show could have handled the situation? Because Alycia was leaving the show and as she was Clarkes soulmate in the eye's of the runners how could they have realistically explained her absences/leaving? Again this isn't supposed to be combative I just could never see a way around it personally and wondered what you thought
lexaâs death was homophobic for multiple reasons: the queerbaiting, the fact that her storyline was an analogy for internalized homophobia, the fact that she was killed because she loved clarke, and the fact that her body was turned into a plot device. jrot blamed alycia and ft/wd but i donât believe it, because he said that lexaâs death was necessary to advance the plot, and he didnât regret killing her. he never cared about lexa, his first mistake was not making alycia a series regular in s2
if they truly wanted lexa alive, they already had an explanation for her absence after 3x07: clarke was going back to her people. after that, alycia could stay as a guest star, appearing in 7-9 episodes per season, like s2 and s3. it worked perfectly
if lexa absolutely HAD to die, the first thing is that they shouldnât have used us for ratings and lied to us, they made us feel safe and took it away. and she shouldâve died heroically, fighting for something she loves and believes in (peace, her home, the nightbloodsâŠ), not hit by a stray bullet meant for her girlfriend. lexaâs most important development was overcoming her internalized homophobia and letting herself love and be loved⊠her death shouldnât have been connected to clarke. her neck being cut open and the chip taken out made the situation worse, because lexa had just died, and we were confused and traumatized, but the writers wanted us to be excited about the plot. it was disrespectful, they saw lexa not as a human, but as a vessel for the commanderâs spirit. they killed her, used her dead body for ratings, and discarded her
as eliza said, 3x07 shouldâve been like 3 episodes, because too much happened and going suddenly from happiness at watching our ship happen, to shock at watching lexa die, was extremely distressing. also, her legacy should live on. one of the most upsetting results of lexaâs death was that everything she worked hard to accomplish was destroyed⊠the kids she raised to be good and compassionate were killed, evil murderers sat at her throne, thousands of people died in a pointless war, her home was burned to the ground. ultimately, nothing that lexa did and sacrificed so much for, her own humanity included, mattered. if lexa died, but her impact remained, and the world was a better place because of her influence⊠if the nightbloods survived (like, what was the point of introducing them and hinting at aden becoming the next commander?), and polis thrived⊠she wouldnât have died in vain
theyâre writers, being creative is their JOB. not killing lexa would be easy, killing her and dealing with it appropriately would be easy, they just didnât care. lexaâs death and the queerbaiting surrounding it were cruel, inconsiderate and bad writing, driven by shock value
