Peacemaker by Astolat: long one-shot, but it has Optimus defying orders for the greater good so :). tfa, also post-canon.

Ninth by Kyn: is a longfic with some potentially disturbing body horror, slavery, and megop is only one of the many facets of it but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. It is one of my favorite fics OF ALL TIME. and considering how much I read fanfic that is a great honor. I also advise care on this one. Continuity soup of the most delicious kind.

Remember when they said statistics don't matter when it comes to greatness and therefore lewis is not the goat but this season all they do is pull out statistics to discredit lewis like podiums and h2h. Goalpost being moved left and right

it is sooooo infuriating. they demanded he get the statistics to be in the goat conversation but once he did it was “statistically” or “arguably” the greatest, terms of differentiation that were never used for schumacher - they were happy just calling him the greatest. they said the 8th would make it undeniable for lewis, and now completely brush over a. how he exceeds him in every other metric, and b. how the only reason he doesn’t have it is racism and sports fixing.

and they take it down to the minuscule level where sprint poles and wins matter for some drivers but not for him. a podiumless (in their eyes) season is a failure but no mention of the hundreds of drivers that have never achieved a podium in their entire career. they love to say that jenson button “beat” him in points over 3 years, a measurement of performance which has never been used for anyone else ever.

and then there’s everything else they choose to ignore about lewis when they’re talking about greatness, like how lewis is the first Black driver in history and the weight and meaning that adds to his achievements, or how lewis has never been disqualified for a championship, has always driven cleanly and fairly, or everything lewis has contributed to this sport off track.

now we’re watching them bend the rules for max again. he only has 4 wdc and yet he’s already getting the goat treatment. more of his titles were won through cheating than not. his teammates as lewis pointed out have not had the statistics of lewis’s teammates and have actively been hampered by max’s team, but still max is treated as if he’s had equal opposition to lewis.

this is a long ass rant because i feel physically ill. no matter how much people try to spin it— oliver bearman's comment was racist. point blank. and it disgusts me that lewis still gets treated like he did when he was a rookie. all because racism doesnt care about achievements.

it shouldnt matter where it came from, but it hits even harder knowing it came from someone he was actually kind to. and the point isnt “he shouldnt be racist because lewis was nice to him.” the point is he shouldnt be racist because lewis is a human being. because that is the bare minimum of being a normal person. and i hate reading things like "lh fans are overreacting" or that we are triggered just because bearman likes max more than lewis. it doesnt matter that he roots for max or that he thinks max is a better driver. those facts dont matter in this conversation. because even if lewis had never touched a podium in his entire life, he would still never deserve to have someone talk about “buying” him like he’s an object.

what abhors me more is people still defending bearman. he was a teenager not a toddler. people love giving teenagers free pass. at 18 you can drive. you can vote. you absolutely know what racism is. you absolutely know it is WRONG. he typed that comment fully aware of its implications. racism at 18 is still racism. racism at 8 is still racism. it doesnt magically become “okay” because you slap the word “teenager” on it. and you can excuse a lot of stupid things at 18. but not racism. never racism. because racism is not a slip-up. it’s a worldview. it comes from somewhere you have been allowed to believe is normal.

im angry. im disgusted. im tired of excuses. im tired of people pretending this isnt serious. im tired of everyone’s bullshit. some days i wish lewis wasnt so endlessly kind and composed. that he wasnt so patient. if i were to decide, the man has earned the right to shoot at least one person a month in this sport. not that he ever would. that is the cruel irony. he wouldnt even say anything mean about a colleague who made a snarky comment about him. he will always choose grace even when faced with people who would never return the courtesy, and for what? so he can keep being treated like shit?

im furious. im heartbroken. lewis deserves better than this sport, better than its fans, better than its rising stars who still cant grasp the basic concept of seeing him as a person
