“no, no I couldn’t,” Cecil said, quickly. The water had made him too caught up with his previous romance to even think of it. “Okay good because people around here don’t seem cautious, you know? After all, it’s VALENTINE’S DAY. People might die,”

Beth frowned, remembering the loon from that random maze that had been discovered in the forest. Just her luck. At least he wasn’t poisoned, that had been a major concern that the man would do something or eat something incredibly stupid and end up dead. And if he did, she guessed she had this Carlos person to answer to. “I don’t know anybody named Carlos,” She paused, taking the man in again. “Nice to know you made it out of the maze alright.”
Cecil would have felt his heart BREAK even more if that were possible. But, Cecil was already shattered inside with the loss of his mate, so Beth’s frank words only caused him to frown in response. “Are you sure? He’s about yay-high, very handsome and he wears a white lab coat,” Cecil said, hoping to job a memory. “Oh, yeah, I ended up wandering out, after a couple hours,” He added.

Dizzy was walking with her jewelry to set up her stand and sell when someone stopped her. “Yes sir ?” She asks and listens. “Sorry I don’t think I did. What does he look like ?”
Cecil still felt a pang of hope, after all, she hadn’t not seen him, “Oh, well he’s EXTREMELY handsome. Like the most handsome man you’ve ever seen in your entire life. He has GORGEOUS hair, dark skin and teeth like a military cemetery,”
In Night Vale, Valentine’s day was NOT something to be trifled with. In fact, the holiday had been cancelled at few years back to due the carnage it had caused. Both to public property and in fatal injuries. Because of this, Cecil simply couldn’t understand everyone’s attitude towards the holiday. People on the island seemed to actually like it. Not him, he was SCARED and WORRIED. The water had made his feelings for his absent boyfriend that much stronger. “Excuse me!” Cecil called out to the first person he saw. “Have you seen Carlos? Carlos the Scientist?”

“so i bought myself some flowers.” the wizard announced quite proudly as she waved her bouquet around with no care in the world, “i mean, who could be the better valentine for me than me?”
Despite his mood, Cecil couldn’t help but smile at Alex’s statement. “Wow, I wish I could be that optimistic.” He said, nodding towards the flowers. “Did you check those for thorns? They can suck the life force out of you,”
She sensed something strange in his ways towards her, something different, he treated her as if he were scared, or at least, that was the word which registered in her mind. The way he had a quiver, tried to have them move on. She tried to shrug it off but it nagged at her.
“Maybe you will” A tentative tone crept out. “No one’s omniscient after all, no god’s among us”. Some tried to be, little did she know, Ford tried to be. Frowning at the dark tone of his words, she stood from the table, reluctant, wiping any crumbs from her cornflower blue dress. “It’s nice to have a little quiet from time to time. If you’d rather go there though, I’m up for a stroll”.
The way Dolores was, it was almost as if she wasn’t human or at least, that she hadn’t been human for a long time. Cecil had met people that were sort of like her before, and he never liked them. They always set him on edge but thankfully, as radio host, he was naturally charismatic and somewhat able to hold it together in these situations. Nothing was worse than working under STATION MANAGEMENT. “You say that now, until Zeus or the glow cloud-” Cecil’s eyes glazed over and his voice became deep, trance-like. “ ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY GLOW CLOUD” He said, and the next moment he was back to normal. “show up in the shore all angry about being human,” Cecil finished, unaware of what had just happened. He began moving around the clearing, shooting an all too tight smile at the woman, “Perfect. But um, do you know how to get out of here? It all looks the same to me,”
An eyebrow raised up, tilting her head slowly the side, breeding confusion. The man was rather curious in his act, what he said. Slipping her arms across one another, she gave a tentative chuckle, hoping that it was a joke. If it wasn’t, it would be ironic, though she wouldn’t know, after all, her father’s old storyline before being put in the narrative of Peter Abernathy, was that of a cannibal.
“No, no! There’s no one else hear, they all appeared to get a little tired of here” She exhaled a sigh, it was a shame that the other guests but it was nice to have a slice of peace to herself in the curious surroundings. “You’re quite safe here, unless you try venturing into the rest of the maze”. Mazes, they were a constant theme throughout her life. Dangerous.
Cecil raised an eyebrow. “If they all got tired, wouldn’t I? I mean, there’s nothing special about me. I’m not omniscient, I experience time as everyone else does, slowly counting down the seconds to my inevitable doom, like every other human,” He thought about pushing through the hedges, but he was scared he might get attacked, so he thought, instead, that it might be best to let her lead him out of this prison. “Isn’t it lonely in here? The town has a lot more people, and we’re pretty welcoming. Why don’t we go there, and um, look around?” Cecil tried keeping his voice steady, but it had a slight quiver to it.

Jay chuckled when the guy got the name mixed up. He couldn’t blame him. Words could be hard sometimes. “Thanks,” he smiled. When he mimed the fake eating pizza, Jay hummed a bit in confusion. “Huh. Okay, I guess. I’ve never heard of anything like that.”
Cecil gave a grin and tossed away his invisible pizza. As far as food went, he supposed that invisible stuff was a safer bet, but he was hungry for something REAL. He began inspecting the table, and finally settled on eating some carrots. “So, how come your team set this up in a maze? Seems kind of weird.”

“Ya do not seem to like them very much.” It was all what Al said about the topic, a slight shrug following his statement. “But, yeah. First try. Sawe everything about it in the box with the moving pictures, ya know?”
“I’m just exercising rational caution,” Cecil said, as if it were obvious. After all, how was he to know if a canadian tourist wasn’t secretly just five beavers in a coat? “Moving picture box? You mean, a TV?”

Walkers, Beth could handle. Sexist pigs, Beth could handle. Angry rednecks with an itchy trigger finger? She had that down pat. However working with this man, who had that sort of childish weirdness to him she could tell was going to be difficult, trying both her emotions and patience. “That’s why we ain’t touchin’ anythin’. Particularly the food,” she shot him another withering look, unwilling to trust him with the candy-colored food. It seemed too bright, too fake to be real. “Parallel dimension? I think maybe you just hit your head or somethin’.”
Cecil eyed the stranger with some disdain. He didn’t like the way she ignored the CLEARLY supernatural nature of the maze. As nice as blissful ignorance might be, he thought this was taking it a bit too far. Even the most logical Night Vale residents admitted to some supernatural aspects - like how science was weird. Cecil scoffed. “No, I was there. I remember. My friends and family told me i’d been gone. Plus, I didn’t have any bumps on my head or brainwashing marks,”

Beth raised a single eyebrow, finally taking everything about the man in. Her hunt at the table was abandoned, as this man seemed to be the bigger threat currently. He gave her an eerie vibe like he knew the secrets of the world and they were not welcoming secrets. “Angels? What does the day have anythin’ to do with it bein’ a trap?” Her original perception of him was beginning to seem to be on the nose. Of course, she got stuck with a crazy. Just her luck. “You?” If Beth had been a meaner person, she would have scoffed. “I don’t mean to be rude, but you don’t look like you would survive on your own for a day, much less three.”
Cecil kept his eye on the girl as she looked around the table. Instinct told him that this girl was on edge - that she might lash out at any moment. And the host thought his instincts were pretty reliable. “Well obviously if this is a trap for...the definitely-not-real Angels, it can catch us too,” He explained, rolling his eyes. Cecil crossed his arms over his chest, looking down at his small frame. “I’ll have you know I survived ten years in a parallel dimension - at least, I think it was ten years. It felt like ten years, and when I got back the calendar had moved forward that much. But then again, who’s to say calendars are ever accurate, they could be fake. Anyway I’m tougher than I look,”

IT WAS expected that more people, just like her , would find the maze —- specially, the tea party. she had spent hours trying to leave it, go back to the main town but it seemed impossible, she sighed at the other’s presence, tabitha’s social skills weren’t necessarily the greatest, but she was willing to do what it takes to get out of this mess. ❛ i had a cookie and i’m fine —- how did you get here? ❜
Cecil blinked, having not seen the other person in the clearing. He assumed she’d just teleported into the clearing, as many people did when they walked through the wrong place at the wrong time. In any case, she didn’t seem evil. He thought he might as well be friendly

She hadn’t touched most of the food, feeling an impulse her mind to not consume it, odd, she never realised just how little she ate, before, that fact had never bothered her. After all, she didn’t realize that it probably wouldn’t be too best for a host to eat and drink that much. After all, she just thought she was human.
“I’m not really that hungry,” She spoke, that southern lilt echoing in her voice as she put the teacup she held in her hand down on the table, on the long white tablecloth. “But the rest seem to like it. And everything is so mad here, a tea party is the least of your worries” She smiled at the newcomer, always one to be welcoming to them.
The woman sitting in front of Cecil was giving him...eerie vibes. And not just the everyday someone-evil-is-watching-you vibes, he'd become accustomed to those, but a deeper, more primal fear. Similar to the kind of feeling he got when he looked at sliced bread. He wandered over to the table, inspecting the food. It looked delicious, and his stomach grumbled at the sight. But Cecil was resilient, determined to survive his encounter with the maze. "Um, me either." He said finally, hoping it sounded convincing. Cecil looked the girl over, cocking his head, and then glanced around the cleaning. There was no one else there. "I'm going to hazard a guess that you ate your other guests and humbly request that you don't do that to me. Really, I'm all skin and bones. Probably taste like nuclear waste," Cecil kept his eye trained on the girl as he moved around the clearing, trying to find an exit.

HOW DID THEY GET HERE? they were walking along the sidewalk just moments ago, but now they were deep in a maze they don’t remember seeing days before. to make matters worse, they have yet to encounter another person, only causing them to feel more NERVOUS. ❝ how will i get myself out of this one … ❞ beebee continued to follow their instincts, stopping only to blink a couple times at what looked like LIGHT from the next turn. was it an exit? upon going in, they realized it wasn’t an exit, but it seemed to be the core. ❝ oh … ❞ after glancing around, they realized someone else was also there. ❝ what is this? ❞
Cecil hadn't expected anyone to follow him into the maze. Though, he knew they were tantalizing attractions - especially to tourists. He young man frowned as he heard a female voice, turning round he clasped a hand over his mouth. "Oh no!" He exclaimed, "you're trapped too. Look, just don't eat the food I think this place is a trap,"

“yeah — i wouldn’t give that a go.” sabrina raised her eyebrows, looking up from the seat she’d found herself stuck in for the past half hour or so “i was hoping somebody else showed up. maybe i’ll be able to get myself OUT of here.”
Cecil felt relief rush over him at the sound of a friendly voice. "I'm glad I found someone else sensible," he commented, flashing a grin. He began scanning for a way out but could see none. "Could we...climb into the walls maybe?" Cecil suggested.

“It’s a party from the lacrosse team at the university,” he explained. He could see how the whole thing might seem strange. “We won our last game, so we decided to have a little fun.” At the mention of the pizza, Jay furrowed his eyebrows. “Invisible pizza? How do you eat invisible pizza?”
Cecil wasn't sure what lacrosse was. After all, the only sports they'd had in his home town were basketball and baseball. Everything else had been banned for years prior to his own existence. "Is that what this is? Well then I'm very happy for your uh...licorice team!" Cecil said with enthusiasm. Cecil frowned, having never thought he'd meet someone who didn't like invisible pizza. "Oh, just like this," he said, and mimed eating a slice.
