leonsat:
he nods at her reply, letting some of the tension ease from his shoulders. he doesn’t want to let skye down, not now, not ever, but hearing that she has gone through something similar is relieving, to say the least. “and… how did it go? did you guys get what you needed?” the android has only heard of the previous leader, wasn’t around long enough to meet him in person. what he has heard about the man, however, paints him in such a good light that leon wishes he has met him. he must have meant a lot to skye, so leon hopes he isn’t bringing up old wounds.
the reassurances work wonders, and leon gives her a small smile. don’t panic, think, focus — he can do that, how hard can it be? they planned this through carefully, and her presence next to his helps a lot too. he trusts her completely, and they are in this together. god knows he would have been much, much more stressed if he were to go through this alone. he just hopes he won’t be a liability, his inexperience could cause the mission to go awry, and he would do anything to stop that from happening.
“so, uhm — we’re going to be posing as personnel, and try to find a way in and out where we can smuggle big quantities of neasource out — i know where it is, but i don’t know how we can get the canisters out of there —” leon begins, recounting the plan out loud, wanting to smooth out any last-minute details. “anything else we should be cautious of? when was the last time you entered neatech?” his last time was with riku, more than a year ago, but he has no idea about skye’s last experience here.
skye takes a moment to recall her first few outings with jona and some of the other members, learning the ropes so she could best help in the future. “my role was lesser than now. jona was cautious and wanted to let the newcomers observe but everyone had a helping hand in the end. sometimes we got what we needed and others not so much. all you can do is to try better next time when that happens.” she says, nodding her head. “i think that as long as everyone makes it back safe that we can consider it a win either way.”
the idea of failing terrifies her in and of itself, but only because it means she hasn’t fulfilled her promise as leader and protected everyone like she’s supposed to. failure on missions act as a domino effect, one minor mess up and suddenly everything has fallen to pieces. she’s seen it several times while jona was active as leader but the time it cost the movement the leader himself, that haunts her to this day.
nothing bad will happen tonight, not to leon or herself. she swears it.
pulling herself from her thoughts, she listens to him repeat what they’d gone over before leaving. she appreciates leon’s devotion to making sure all goes well and that they know the plan, thinking it admirable. the minor bump in how to get the neatech out causes her to frown, mind working quickly before shaking her head. “we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. one thing at a time. first thing is to get in and to the neasource safely.” she answers with a reaffirming nod. “it’s been a long time since i was here last. but… mostly we need to watch out for the guards and make sure they haven’t changed the routine we do know of.”
