OMG! Omahe Mbok Giyem
Yet not a week ago, me and fellow thursdiner tried OMG (Omahe Mbok Giyem). Located in the city of Bantul, it had no signage on the main road. Just make sure your GPS ready or quickly turn east as soon as you see SAMSAT BANTUL signage right after passing PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul from north.
The venue was a greyish-purple tainted Javanese village brick house (or as the officials says: Javanese country house; which naturally refers to non-ceiling house), decorated in several artpieces, smells like Mirota Batik, and plays Javanese Jazz song to sums up the atmosphere. It was a very cute place, with a real deal tablescape glassware.
We were coming to OMG for iftar dinner, so for complimentary, they gave us free flow of mineral water, a big cup of nasgitel tea (Tjatut brand, CMIIW), and several bulk of dates. Nasgitel tea is stands for panas-legi-kentel (hot-sweet-thick) tea which was Javanese style of tea. I'm a fan of mountain-brew tea, so too sweet and too thick is so not me.
We were then made our orders. Prices were less than 20k for food and maximum 10k for beverages. Due to the low light condition, the menu book snapshots were blurry *sorry*. However, their menu were consists of soups, rice dishes, chicken dishes, noodles & rice noodles, eggs, vegs, snacks, desserts, and special packages.
As soon as we made our orders, we were asking for musholla, which they have not. We were then given the place to do our pray in a massage area.
Cute signage right .. and it can be bought, well, at least the memo on our table says that:
(translation: Everything can be bought, except the owner)
Bar Order
The glassware here was photographically deceiving, so as a size comparison, do note the IDR 500,- coins next to the glasses or plate.
Es Timun Serut 5k was good, not to sweet, and the size of the shredded cucumber was perfect.
Kopi Tubruk OMG 10k was traditional Javanese style for serving coffee. Coffee dusts were stirred with boiling water and not filtered. No sugar added. We have to bite a bit of palm sugar first before sipping our coffee. Here in OMG the twist was that they were using Gujahe (gula jawa jahe; Jogjanese souvenir on which palm sugar were already infused with ginger). Unique, but kinda too gingery.
Mix Lemon Tea 4.5k which i forgot to taste. However i didn't heard complaint, though.
Food Order
We were actually want to order Lapis Sensation, which happen to be sold out that day. So we move on and chose the menu below for sweet treats.
Pisang Cokelat Keju (Chocolate and Cheese Banana) 7.5k was big, tasty, and wrapped in a kind of popiah skin. Very reccomended and fulfilling.
Zuppa Soup 10k was tasted like an instant one, way too salty.
Chicken blackpepper 12.5k was big rounded breast medallion fillet, moist, tasty, with even power of blackpepper.
Wader 15k is unlike those i accustomed to. Fishes were big. It was hot and unique. It was most likely to be named sambal goreng kering wader.
Paket Ayam Bakar (Grilled Chicken Package) 15k was the best thing happened that night. Everything is perfect, except for the complimentary sayur lodeh which lacks of sweetness.
Paket Nasi Petir (Thunder Rice Package) 10k was a nightmare. Well, actually each item was very well cooked: nice sauteed vegs and way better the moist eggs. Too bad the oseng tempe was too hot too handle. It gave me sudden sinusitis, made my digestory system rejects all the food coming to my mouth, and literally made me puke in the toilet for its hotness :(
Buah Potong (forgot the price) was consists of apple, melon, and watermelon; each in a very brilliant colors.
Services
It was a cheap place but with a savvy service, not exactly the best, but adding the most values for its price.
Reccomendation
Just avoid Paket Nasi Petir!
