“Sorry, but there’s only one person in this city I’d call extraordinary. You’re certainly something, but you don’t have quite the magic she does.”
It was not an insult of course. Not meant to bring her down. It was simply the truth; no matter how interesting she was, she could never match up with her. This woman didn’t have the air, the influence, and most of all, the power. It wasn’t just her, there was no one who could match her, not in Adachi’s eyes.
“In fact right now, I’d say you’re nothing.” he said, this time meaning to send insult. “You’ve got looks to you, and I’m sure that can pull some decent subordinates. But when it comes to real influence? You’re about as pulling as two south poled magnets. You think you can compete with the big leagues like this? You might have been a big shot back home, but here, you’ve got nothing to your name but a pretty face and some nice legs.
So how about we start getting you some?”
Following the barrage of insults and put downs, was a simple question. It wasn’t something like offering her a position in an organization, it wasn’t giving her a job to do. It was simply a question; did she want to gain a place in this world.
Cinder pulls her hand away, her smile fading. What a bold, bold man - telling her she was nothing. Something inside of her felt angry and violent. But she was a lady. And ladies knew better. She didn’t want to cause a scene, but the temptation was there. She was...bothered, if that was the appropriate word even.
If anything, it was safe to say she was indeed offended. The question was, however, would she act on it? She didn’t - instead, she listened to the man, looking for any reason as to shy she shouldn’t burn him there and then.
Unfortunately (and she hated to admit this), he was right in a way. And that angered her even more.
“You know..” She starts, looking down to her nails.
“You’re really bold - I’ll give you that. To go and say that as if it were nothing. I could kill you, you know, but where’s the fun in that? It doesn’t mean I’m not considering it.” She lowered her hand, folding her arms over her chest.
“You don’t understand how luck you are right now...but go on. I’m listening.”
