Still not over the time I saw someone reading Gideon the ninth and said (while they were reading the first section of Gideon trying to escape the Ninth) that the story seemed tailor made to transfer to a modern setting because it reminded them so much of someone trying to leave their small town.

And I don't mean this in a bad way but I literally haven't stopped thinking about that. Ah, yes. Gideon Nav, orphan in a dying small town trying desperately to join the Army so she can make something of her life and escape her highschool valedictorian nemesis. All good so far. And then she gets sent to a death game to appoint the new Supreme Court Justices. And dies. And then finds out her dad is George Washington and her mom did 9/11.

I know the fear and pain that Beatrice feels seeing Ava dangle in the air and plummet to the ground is important to show Beatrice’s feelings for Ava, etc etc, but it still would have been unbelievably hilarious if Mary had been there and yelled up to Ava to quit being a baby, this wasn’t even as bad as the cliff she kicked her off of, and then Ava yelling back at her to shut up this drop is DEFINITELY higher, and Beatrice yelling at Mary, “YOU KICKED HER OFF A CLIFF???” and then the halo starting to flicker and Mary yelling, “DO A FLIP!!” right as Ava plunges towards the ground.

I just wanna say, if you aren't American, definitely try setting a modern AU in your country. Fill it with the things you know, to breathe life into it. It's really nice to see new settings, to open up a fic and go 'oh wait, hold up, I know that place'. It might only apply to a few people who read your fic but it's really rewarding to get that feedback.

Boy oh boy I hope no one downloads every episode of warrior nun and puts them on a shared Google drive so we don't have to go back to netfux to get our warrior nun fix. Sure would be a shame if people were to then download the episodes from that drive and keep them on CDs or removable storage.
