How Does This Work? Cyberfei Rules of Participation
In a big project like this, the last thing we want is imbalance. As Overseer I don’t want to take away your agency and creative control, but I also don’t want this to become a mess of contradictory ideas.
To attempt to combat both of these outcomes, Cyberfei adopts a “Layers of Lore” technique.
PERSONAL LORE
Right at the base of the pyramid, making up the majority of what will be created as people start to roll in and get involved, is Personal Lore.
Personal Lore is anything you come up with. Original characters, concepts, etc. -- anything you personally create whether or not it has been accepted as canon.
Put simply, if Cyberfei is a sandbox, Personal Lore is your sandcastle for you to do with as you will, non-commercially.
INDIE LORE
If you should decide that you wish your Personal Lore to be accepted into Cyberfei canon while still maintaining creative control, that lore becomes Indie Lore.
When Personal Lore becomes Indie Lore you agree that anyone may use this lore in their own Personal Lore. All Indie Lore must be discussed with the Overseer’s Office before being made canon.*
If someone else wishes to make their Personal Lore canon and it contains your Indie Lore, they must discuss it with you first before it is passed to the Overseer’s Office.
GROUP LORE
The sand at the bottom of the sandbox is the Group Lore. This is the baseline canon of the Cyberfei universe and anything you create will be using this lore.
Group Lore is primarily created by the Overseer, but anyone can submit their lore to be a part of it. Group Lore does not belong to any one creator.
In submitting work to be Group Lore, you are relinquishing creative control to the wider community. Anyone, including the Overseer, will be able to use, tweak and discuss this lore as they wish. Personal Lore and Indie Lore can be created from your Group Lore without need to consult you.
All lore to be passed into Group Lore must be discussed with the Overseer.
*NB: The creator team can ONLY suggest corrections and tweaks to fit with wider canon. We cannot and should not take control in a way that breaks your canon or takes away your creative control. We are to work with you and just as you would be expected to be respectful and work with us, we should also be respectful of you. If you believe any creator is treating you unfairly, please bring it up with a moderator, even if it's the Overseer.
