queer as in gay but also queer as in unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

in grade 7 i was given an assignment in french class where we had to write something about ourselves using adjectives. i wrote i was queer after trying to describe myself as peculiar or odd.. the teachers aid came around, read what i had wrote and her reaction still sits with me to this day. she was horrified. it was as if i had written a swear word. she told me: "you don't want to use that word". i didn't question it but either way here i sit 18 years later and in both definitions i am definitely queer 😂
