like optimus already knows megatron is obnoxious, because he’s a smarmy overpowered bully, but i fucking love the ones where megatron makes optimus spend time with him in some capacity and quickly learns that optimus is devious & lowdown & not above scurrying through vents. so the decepticons are disgruntled and horrified, and megatron hates him so so bad (or is amused), and he won’t kill opty for Plot Reasons so optimus is free to become a black-footed cat among the hapless savannah of decepticons. what were you thinking, megatron. they only give comically-oversized weapons (axe, magnus hanmer) to characters insane enough to try wielding them, megatron. megatron our collateral damage budget. and megatron’s like look i haven’t had someone turn me on in a million years let me have this

It will never stop being funny to me that Transformers still carries the baggage of some coked-up 80s executives deciding to make the one that turned into a realistic handgun the leader of the bad guys, and now, 40 years later, there are STILL people who get angry when they can't have the newest Megatron figure turn into a realistic handgun, despite the infinitely many reasons why that's clearly a terrible idea

"Sentient robot whose entire body can be reconfigured into an object that exists exclusively to cause destruction with no other useful function" isn't even a bad concept for like. Not a toy commercial.

Like that's immediately an interesting concept for a character that you can use to explore a lot of ideas about how an imperialist society will dehumanize its subjects and all that.

Which goes entirely out of the window when your goal is to sell toys of Guy Who Becomes Gun, and realize that he's a tremendous toy safety laws issue. And also because you're writing a toy commercial you're contractually barred from ever saying anything interesting.

it is crazy how “if this childrens show doesn’t kill their villain at the end it’s irredeemable media” became such a popular opinion here. like people were calling steven universe fascist apologia. and to be clear I don’t even think that would be the case for non childrens media, either. perhaps holding every single story up to the same standard of “does it follow the acceptable narrative path or is it evil propaganda” isn’t the most anti-fascist thing, either. maybe.
