Silent Night // Genji & Mercy

The heat of the tea seeps through the ceramic and warms her hands. Delicate lashes fluttering to reveal azure hues of sight currently fixated upon the horizon before the pair. She attentively listens as her companion reminisced and lamented… then the inevitable query; one she had been evading since the day she saved the cyborg from death’s eternal grip.

It gave her pause, her thoughts muddled as she attempted to place them into verbal context. Before long, her lightly painted lips would part for speech.

“As a doctor, it is my duty to save lives. Vhen zhey brought you to me, everyone had zheir doubts - but even so, I vouldn’t give up on you. But zat is a rather facile and disingenuous answer… zee truth is, I imposed my own morals and principles upon you, vithout your consent. Razher zhan allowing you zee choice, I forced life upon you.”

This tense scene barely held together by strained nerves, looks like a tableau from a painting. Somewhere within the pain, however, grew a flame. Passionate and fervid, which gave her the strength to meet his neon gaze.

“I did vhat I thought vas right. Do you… hate me? Resent vhat I’ve done to you, Genji?”

Forced life upon him... That is exactly what had happened. Laying in that pool of his own blood and his last mortal sight being the image of an angel mad ehim believe his life had some to an end. He could feel the weak anger building within his heart as it beat slower and slower. The color fading from his skin as he desperately clung to each and every breath that could very well be his last. The memory of feeling every - last - touch - of warmth in his body leave him.

And never feeling that warmth again.

So when she raises the question... Does he hate her? The cyborg doubts he can give her a straight answer. He definitely can’t say he’s her biggest fan right now. She saved his life and made him live with this hate burning away at him... Scorching his sanity as he relives the horrific night with ever closing of his eyelids. She forced him to live like this. And for what? Just to show that it worked? That Overwatch had successful cybernized someone entirely? Disgusting.

He is so alone. So completely alone now... The father who loved him dearly is dead and the brother he once looked up to might as well be. Why make someone like him keep on living? He hates the scars on his face and despises the glow of her cyborg body. How can he make this stop? A place where he does not belong has practically trapped him here. He is paying them back for something he

never wanted.

“No... It is not you that I hate. I resent what you have done to me... but in the end, it is Overwatch I hate. I should have died by Hanzo’s hand.”

“I know my sweet child. That is what I wanted you to believe.” She admitted with a guilty frown. Slowly she reached out to touch his hand. It was cold. There was little warmth from it, but the woman did not mind so much. It was still her sons hand as far as she was concerned.

“Is this… The result of what happened after I had left?” Amaya asked, shifting so she could brush her fingertips against the metallic arm. Was there any skin left to her little boy other than the brain and heart she knew still beat within him?

“Would it be terrible of me to ask for… a hug after all these years of being away from you, Genji?”

A part of him is upset with his mother... Wanting him to to believe she had been dead for so many year? It’s just plain cruel. But to be angry would not be fair. After all, he was the one who disappeared for twenty years- although it was not by choice- and didn’t even attempt to contact his mother. Genji looks down to his hand where his mother places her own. There is pain in the way he can’t feel her warmth the way he should. The cyborg is sure there is sadness in the cold touch of his metallic body.

“Yes... I am sorry I am not the way you remember me, Okaasan. Hanzo did far too much for me to stay human.”

He doesn’t even respond to her question. It is strange to try and think about what it must feel like to have such a cold being touch oneself as Genji turns fully to his mother. There isn’t a moment’s hesitation as me quickly moves to hug her tightly with arms beneath her own. Hugging his mother like this once again... He feels like a child.

Man oh man some of the grown ass adults on this site make me seem like the mature one here... I thought the Tales of fandom could get hateful but that was nothing compared to this. Don’t get me wrong, I love so many of the people here, but hot damn this is a bit of a divided community.

Hey friendos!

Sorry I’ve been a touch inactive around here! Life’s good especially now that 2016 is over. I don’t know what it was but I just feel a lot happier already. Anyways, family and video games have kept me away. I play Ensemble Stars and my favorite characters are in the event going on! I’ll try to do some writing later tonight! If it doesn’t work out tonight, then I’ll do them soon!

Maybe it is a common expression in English? Or maybe a rough translation of a Korean saying that just doesn’t translate well into the common tongue between the two. Whatever it is, Genji is positive that there is no Japanese equivalent to the saying that he can think of. Not wanting to dwell on confusion for much longer, Genji smiles at the mentioning of Smash. He remembers the game fondly from his youth.

“Gladly! That was my favorite game when I was little! Ah... How much has the game change in the past few years...?”

It is understandable enough for the cyborg. There had been a time when he held a certain amount of a bitterness towards the organization. As hard as it is to believe today, Genji remembers when he wished he had died by the hands of his brother. Living with that kind of anger halts all kinds of progression in how one thinks. While Mercy saved his body, it is Zenyatta he owes his happiness to. But that does not change how he cares for the woman who protected him from death.

“I remember hating Overwatch at one point... Maybe even resenting you, Angela, for a moment. I understand. But please, I hope you do not leave behind your family from Overwatch.”

❛ — now , we don’t wan’ there t’ be any trouble , do we ? ❜ he tugs at his vest as he speaks , deliberately drawing attention to the explosives lined up across his shoulders . for all the horrible crimes he’s committed , he does still try to engage in friendly conversation , but there are some restrictions to his blind enthusiasm . these limits are almost entirely based off disdain for developed machinery , a fact he doesn’t even attempt to deny .

“Those are a lot of explosives...”

Never has Genji ever taken explosives into consideration when it comes to fighting back any kind of threat. They are quite counterproductive to the goals of ninjas. That being said, none of his family had ever taken to using the class of weapons. But since joining Overwatch, Genji has been able to see a wide variety of loud and flashy weapons. The stark difference between them and himself came in more than just appearances and the contents of their bodies.

“I have never fought using bombs before! Is it enjoyable?”

if you asked, jack would tell you that he couldn’t sleep at night. but if you really knew him, you would know that he never even tries. constantly alert, his mind as distracting as a flickering light. he’d rather be awake and doing something useful than laying in a cold bed playing cat and mouse with the ᴅᴇᴍᴀɴᴅs of his past.

so he spent his nights patrolling around the watchpoint; sometimes with a too-hot cup of coffee in hand, but ALWAYS on the lookout for trouble.

of course he couldn’t help but stumble upon his fellow heroes from time to time.

His face is turned away from the man. It is nothing personal against the man who has approached him rather it is the bitterness Genji holds for his situation. It wasn’t too many nights ago that he had been laying in a pool of his own mortal blood, shaking with fear, confusion, and pure anger all at the same time. Too much has happened to the former man in the past few days. Losing his family was one thing... But now he is forced to keep living with the hatred for the older brother he once loved more than anything.

And this man is the practically the face of this organization.

But he tries to force through the bitterness. While this may be the organization that kept him alive and suffering, not everyone in it is the root of all evil. After meeting the man named Reinhardt, Genji has seen it for himself that there are good people here. Perhaps this man would further prove what Genji has already seen firsthand. He believes his name to be Jack... Easy enough to remember.

“I guess. It is hard to have a clear mind here, isn’t it? After everything Overwatch does, restless nights are expected.”

Amaya’s eyes widened slightly as a pang of anxiety rushed through her. Did he really just say his name was Genji? Was this perhaps a cruel joke by someone who had found out her identity?

Her answer came when she felt a familiar itch from the tattoo etched into her arm. It was the dragon within her, silently affirming his identity and quelling her anxiety. Perhaps it was only reacting to the dragon which still lived within the cyborg, not that it mattered too much. She had the answer she wanted. And smiled softly.

“You have grown into quite the young man I see, sweet sparrow.”

From the moment his name has left his own lips, Genji remains still. He doesn’t dare move as if the slightest movement would ruin everything. A part of him wonders how all of this had come to happen. Out of everyone in Hanamura, it had to be his own mother who came to meditate in a forbidden space. The cyborg curses himself in his mind for even coming here in the first place- it was a bad idea from the beginning.

But her words stop every thought moving around in his head. Looking to her in surprise, Genji wishes she could see the surprise on his features. However, Genji didn’t remove to visor just yet.

“I'm happy to see that you are in good health, Okaasan. I thought you had died...”

Although he is one to talk...
