The Greatest Connection
The greatest connection we have to God is the one we choose. To put it simply, your relationship to the spiritual (and you do have one even if it's small) is the one that will lead you to your highest self.
For me, when I think of the spiritual side of our being, it's not like one thing. It's not a door that has the same lock for everyone. I think it's like a spectrum of influence in our lives.
On one end, the people who prefer no or minimal spiritual influence in their lives. And that's perfectly fine. They carve their own way through life, but putting so much tax on the body can be difficult. (Just how I think, don't know if it's true).
On the other end, the people who dive deeply into the spiritual. They allow themselves to move and act in ways we don't understand, but make sense to them as an expression of their connection. This can also tax the body as some spiritual practices can neglect the body's needs in favor of the spiritual. (Just opinion).
I think one of the ways our connection to the spiritual can manifest is through physical expression. Tattoos, piercing, hair dye, clothes, etc. Through these, we become closer to what our spiritual selves "look" like, or feel like.
Most people are happy with an "unmodified" appearance. You know, the plain Janes, Johns, and James of the world (no shade, we love you all)! Others go for a "highly modified" appearance. For example, a creator I really like named Roly has a highly modified appearance, and he looks like art.
Then of course there are fashion models/actors who have their own style, but can fit themselves into certain expressions to tell stories.
(Can you tell I think people are very fascinating?)
So, what sparked this post? On Bluesky, a person posted a video of a man explaining that one of his controversial opinions is that "Trans people are proof that God is real."
My first thought was that, why is that controversial? He's right, at least in the sense that humans are proof. Naturally, that would include trans people as well. Then I listened and I thought a little more...
(Please remember that these are my opinions and musings and not to be taken as fact because I have no proof. This just FEELS correct to me).
Trans people are proof of the soul. We can talk about the science behind it and all of that, but how did we know before it was discovered? There is something fundamental about gender expression. It's different from other types of expression (in my opinion) because gender expression is the spiritual expression the closest to the physical...world? Being? I think we understood gender expression a long time ago, but when everybody started looking at gender through specific spiritualities, we threw that knowledge away.
If we think of the body as the ultimate vehicle of spiritual expression, it would make absolute sense that a trans person would so heavily modify their body to match their spirit even at great risk and cost to themselves. What force could cause someone to move in that manner if not God or powerful spiritual forces? A deeper knowing of the self that we may never fully grasp? Changing your clothes, your hair, etc? People do that with very little prompting, sometimes on drunken impulses. Gender affirming interventions/surgery is the fulfillment of the spirit's yearning to be expressed in the way that it understands itself.
Trans people are choosing their fundamental connection to God, to the spiritual, and we're getting in the way. Who are we to tell anybody what the path to "heaven" is when we all travel different roads? Who else is being so heavily monitored about how they travel their path as trans people?
Let them go on their journey and if we cross paths, just say hello and wish them well. We're all trying to "return home" with some special souvenir, let's all pick the experiences most meaningful to us.
These are just my thoughts. I want to live in a world of love and freedom, and we could one day. I think it starts by recognizing, affrming, and defending everyone's right to life, liberty, dignity, and self-determination.
I think a lot, try to read a lot. Sometimes I get things wrong, blame my head, not my heart and help me learn, okay?
