Before making your dramatic entrance with your fellow Horsemen onto the stage, your hands rushed to apply your most favourite cherry gloss. The shaking of your hands and the rapid motion resulted in an over-application of product upon your lips. The vanities and mirrors were locked away in the dressing room. There wasn’t enough time to unlock it and make the correction. The typically red theatre curtain being the sole divider between you and the stage, indicating the mere minutes left before the show. The whispered mumbles from Daniel to hurry made you realise you couldn’t even make a quick escape to any bathroom. If you vanished for a second, his fury about your tardiness would make you vanish indefinitely by his own hand. You couldn’t risk increasing the collective nerves of the group.
“Hey there. You ready?” Henley assumed her position beside you, lacing her pinky finger around yours. It was a motion that cradled your inner tension into temporary slumber. It also served as a pre-show ritual simultaneously. “Woah, I can see that gloss from here.”
“Dammit. I have nothing to wipe it away with. I could ask one of our losers for a handkerchief, but they’re arguing of course.” You made a turn of head and confirmed the intense background chatter. Jack and Daniel were face to face while Meritt made his witty remarks. This was their pre-show ritual.
“I can help with that.” Henley’s verbal offering made you face her again. Her head tilted, motioning her red waves to fall further against her shoulders. Her eyes fixated upon your lips. The sight melted against your flesh, making you forget the audience beyond the curtains. Her lipstick covered lips flexed into a pout. They neared yours and upon contact, motioned yours into devoted compliance. This did more than taking away the excess of gloss.
“Uh, thanks.” Your hand entirely took hers. A thumb of yours rubbing against her skin with affectionate appreciation. An exhale of laughter left you.
“That’s a good lip combo.”
“You’re going to have to show me later. We got a crowd to amaze.” Her hand squeezed yours before letting go. She assumed her position next to a moody Jack.
Within the mere seconds before the curtains opened, your mind was consumed by the thought of how she would amaze an audience regardless. You had always saw more videos of her upon your feed than the other Horsemen. Not that Henley needed know of that though.
