I FORGOT TO RESPOND TO THIS LMFAOO ,, they are heavily inspired by different species of birds, but they aren't actually birds as you saw theyre very humanoid!!
🎆 Quick answer - They're more like monsters, but even then they're closer to human than monster. That was intentional as their appearances are actually meant to symbolize the dehumanization facilitated by society towards people with mental health issues. They are referred to by townsfolk as "Niteowls".

🪼 (image above) - This is an unposted fullbody of Tamsi that I sketched a long time ago. The design is super outdated but its a decent reference :-)!
🦋 (why) - Tamsi & Roscoe (the "bird boys") are technically humans. They just have a "condition" that makes them appear that way. The design is generic so that way it can both be interpreted as 'just a dude with wings' OR a 'monster'.
🌀 (design's perception) - Townsfolk label Tamsi and Roscoe, who are just basically dudes with wings and sharp teeth, as subhuman violent monsters, when in reality they are still entirely human and while they sometimes struggle with impulsivity and outbursts, they're not violent.
🩵 (more symbolism i guess LOL) - Another thing about the wings is that some people might think "oh thats super cool! being a Niteowl is awesome" which, in their story, does happen and works as a critique on the romanticization of mental health. Tamsi and Roscoe's "condition" isn't anything malicious but it also isn't awesome. The weight of their wings gives them back issues + achey shoulders, claws and teeth get in the way and sometimes they might accidentally bite or scratch themselves.
Its not a perfect allegory, im still working on it and developing the story, i dont plan to do anything with it until way later in life. I plan to make it some sort of interactive media, hopefully a game. ◝(ᵔᵕᵔ)◜ If you have any more questions, obviously you can see I LOVE yapping about my OCs and questions help me develop my characters!!!
