This goes to Tyrus and non Tyrus shippers:

Don’t just reduce TJ as a love interest or “just another recurring character” because he has had amazing development the entire season. He started off as a villain, as the school bully and didn’t care about anyone’s feelings as long as it benefited himself. Then, he meets Cyrus and he makes real connection with him at the swings and continues being friends with Cyrus, not caring that he’s not in the same social group as he is/talking to him in public and attending his Bar Mitzvah despite not knowing anyone there (besides Buffy and I guess Jonah) TJ got help for Jonah when he saw him getting a panic attack and even congratulated Buffy on her mom coming home instead of being bitter she dropped the ball when he passed it to her. And when TJ was benched from playing basketball, he /tried/ to shut Cyrus out but when he saw Cyrus running after him, he realized Cyrus really does care about him and he felt comfortable enough to open up to him about his dyscalculia because his teammates, his so-called “friends” didn’t care about him. Cyrus was the first real friend TJ made. So after Cyrus helped him with his “stuff” TJ returns the favor by helping Cyrus with his somersault problem and showed growth by signing the basketball as a piece offering to Buffy and even went as far as apologizing to a trash can in public when 2x03 TJ would have saved his dignity and walked away. Then in the finale, TJ schemes with Cyrus to help get Buffy back on the BOYS’ basketball team which he was so against in the first place but has accepted (despite Buffy already planning a girls’ team) then he went the extra mile to apologize to Buffy by rapping and I think the lines “If you wanna change the world, then you gotta change the game” were so moving and beautiful so you know that he put a lot of thought into it.

My point of this long ass rant is to reinforce the fact that TJ is his own character and whether you realize it or not, he’s an important part of Cyrus’ storyline (even a little bit of Buffy’s) and the show in general in which Terri thought he was important enough to carry something as iconic as the lookback™️ to end the season.

Even ships aside for a second I think it would be a really good message about toxic masculinity. TJ is the ‘tough guy’ they’ve spent a season building. It would be amazing to see him breakdown and be vulnerable. He’d be embarrassed for crying because he thinks he shouldn’t but then to be reassured (by Cyrus if you like) that there’s nothing wrong with crying just because you’re a boy. It also opens another storyline (like Jonah’s and Amber’s) that normalises mental health awareness + talking to someone about it.
