My name is Moataz, a journalist from Gaza.

My story!

Imarried Huda on June 22nd. I was very happy with her. I photograph humanitarian issues for the world. The war started and we were exposed to a deadly attack that we miraculously survived.

We became homeless, without food or drink. My wife was crying. I set up my tent for the first time after displacement on November 1st. We sought refuge with all the relief organizations, but no one helped me. We are now awaiting the birth of our first child after a long wait. Huda is pregnant... I tried to search for safety by any means, for me, my wife Huda, and our eagerly awaiting son, Malek! 😭

We were surprised by the new displacement and the terrifying sight of the bombing. We lost everything we owned for the second time, we took refuge in Rafah, I tried in every way to provide healthy food for my wife and our expectant child, but we were surprised for the third time by a major attack that made us leave without any food or shelter, Huda is eight months pregnant and we were displaced for the fifth time, this time is the worst, Huda and I stayed for five days sleeping on the burning sand of the sea. We did not taste food for five days, 💔

also drawing angst is so weird like. you’re telling me I’M causing all the pain and chaos? so much power, but boy do i feel bad for putting leo through all of this. 🥲

but i like to think for this story, despite needing to wait out the effects of the truth serum (draxum’s orders), leo’s still trying to act like everything’s normal and okay. and his “normal and okay” is throwing himself into missions with his brothers despite their worries and protests (he honestly hasn’t been normal and okay for a while, but that’s not something he’s ready to confront quite yet).

hypno makes a return after a long hiatus away from villainy (maybe to finally go from roommates to husbands with warren? idk, mikey probably knows, he keeps up to date with them even if they’re enemies), and it’s accidentally revealed in the middle of battle that leo currently has the inability to tell lies (aside from leo accidentally screwing it up in the beginning, it’s hard to pinpoint which brother brought it to hypno’s attention— mikey made some sort of exclamation about it somewhere down the line, but raph also kept mothering leo in the middle of the fight about it… and donnie… well, he was piggybacking and parroting off one of the brothers). this, unfortunately, hand delivers the perfect advantage wrapped in a nice bow right on hypo’s lap.

it’s kinda hard to keep things “normal and okay” when your enemy is purposefully rapid firing questions at you, questions about awful, stupid things like the krang and poorly thought-out self sacrifices in the prison dimension. leo has to bite the inside of his cheek — hard — to not let anything slip, though it doesn’t help much with the cold sweat and nausea that keeps washing over him every time he fights against telling the truth.

post-fight, raph expresses his concerns about leo coming along on missions in his condition, coming from a place of “i can’t stand to see my brother go through more pain than he’s actually going through” rather than “man, this is such a hindrance”. leo, absolutely terrified of the idea of being kept inside against his will (home is a place of comfort, but him, alone, with his thoughts? with his memories? no thank you), musters up enough face-man confidence to sell the lie to raph that everything’s going to be okay (and everything will be okay if they just keep letting him go on missions, keep him distracted—)

besides, late in the night, when everyone’s asleep, he’s able to get all those truths out to prepare for the next day. even if he can only whisper those truths brokenly and uncontrollably. even if speaking those truths hurt. even if he gets little to no sleep in fear that he’ll end up spouting something he’s not ready for others to know about.

he hates to admit it, but the dog toy does help; at least his teeth won’t suffer much damage at the end of this.

but what about him at the end of this? what about him, who already bears enough trauma and suffering to make the strongest of men shiver in horror? what’s to be of him at the end of this whole truth serum nonsense?

it’s a question leo is grateful he’s not asked — he’s sure not even the truth serum can produce an honest answer for that.
