I will say I've taken to acting like I don't know the origin of "it's never lupus" when people make that reference to me after I tell them about my diagnosis. "it very much so is lupus?? I have a lupus diagnosis????" which was my genuine reaction the first time someone made that reference to me. knowledge of your TV show is not universal and you actually look like a total asshat when someone doesn't get the joke.

A lot of the time people will say like "oh I'd never make fun of a disabled person" but then they do and they don't even realize that that's what they're doing. Like

People will say they wouldn't make fun of a schizophrenic or psychotic person but then make "jokes" about people being insane and delusional.

People will say they wouldn't make fun of epileptic people but then get mad about having to add flash warnings.

People will say they wouldn't make fun of an autistic person but then berate people for missing social cues.

People will say they wouldn't make fun of visually impaired people but then call people lazy for not reading things themself or making spelling mistakes.

People will say they wouldn't make fun of an intellectually disabled person but then mock people who can't do "basic" things.

I think it in part comes from the belief that the people you know couldn't possibly be disabled, that if you met a disabled person you'd be able to tell immediately. And, no. That's not how it works. If you want to be an ally to disabled people, you don't make fun of the things we do. Even if you're not making fun of someone who's disabled, you're telling the other disabled people you know that you're not safe for us to be around.

So I know it's "scary" and "disturbing" and "uncomfortable" to see someone else experiencing symptoms of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder or psychosis in general, but can y'all just for one single moment, try to imagine what the person actually experiencing it is feeling and going through?

Because I guarantee their fear and discomfort and emotional distress is greater than your distress from witnessing it

i know it’s the internet and i know it’s stupid to get annoyed over this type of thing, but it’s really fucking frustrating that people on here have the need to redirect every post i make about VISIBLE PHYSICAL DISABILITY to be about their invisible disabilities and/or mental health issues.

me: here is something i experience because i am visibly physically disabled, solidarity to other visibly disabled people who relate.

notes: could this also be about autism? or adhd? or an invisible chronic illness? have you considered that i want to be included?? CAN THIS PLEASE BE ABOUT ME?????

why can’t you sympathize with someone without making it all about yourself? are you able to listen to others without immediately discussing yourself? these are important skills to have when engaging with other people or with activism. not everything is about you. like, most things are not.

and in the meantime, we NEVER get to talk about our experiences without people breaking their minds trying to shoehorn themselves in and rationalize a reason that their voices should be elevated above ours.

Just so everyone knows, an autistic person genuinely liking things you deem childish is not in fact ‘infantilizing autism.’ Some people just like that stuff, and autistic people are more likely to have ‘unusual’ interest per the literal diagnostic criteria. Let people live their life.

any other autistic people really suck at puzzle games? 😭😭 i am extremely into breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom (part of my special interest) but i cant progress basically at all in older zelda games outside of the new hyrule warriors games. i have ocarina of time and majoras mask, when i tried playing ocarina of time i couldn't get through the first dungeon, i just cant figure out what i'm meant to do. i might try again but i need to use a guide and that makes me overstimulated.

i also can't play some of the other older zelda games because of inaccessibility 😔 i can't play games that have mandatory motion controls, so most wii games are off the table, and skyward sword's switch port has an option to turn off the motion controls but the inputs become so imprecise when i was 17 i spent like an hour straight trying to do the first boss
