Haw Par Villa, or the Tiger Balm Gardens, in Singapore. Built in 1937 by Aw Boon Haw for his brother, this massive villa contains over 1,000 statues and large dioramas that reflect Aw Boon Haw’s deep love of Chinese folklore and mythology. The park’s vivid depictions of “The Ten Courts of Hell” story from folklore is one of its more famous attractions, and more gruesome ones.
