half psychic is better than not psychic at all.
maybe we'll just call you 'highly intuitive'.
can you stay on the line?
you know, there's such a thing as looking too long.
i must have lost track of time.
i'll drink while you tell me things.
it's almost like ____ was never there at all.
you didn't call to say goodnight.
even veals grow a little, and they grow up in a box with their legs all tied up.
i spent the day at home. where else would i be?
i'm okay. i just can't sleep.
i saw more than my fair share of nasty stuff.
i think i just need to be quiet for a little bit.
somebody's birthday is coming up.
be careful they don't work you too hard, alright?
are you still saying your prayers?
you're not afraid of a little bit of dark because you are the dark.
i've seen you before.
you've been to my house.
it's like a long dream, and so dark. a world of dark.
do you remember coming here?
what aren't you telling me?
when was the last time you talked to your mother?
will you tell me the honest truth about something?
i never said my prayers, never once. they scared me.
all our prayers don't help us. prayers don't do a goddamned thing.
nobody ever came to visit. no family, no strangers, no big bad wolves. not anybody.
you're not a child because you were allowed to grow up.
this is a cruel world, especially for the little things. not all of them are allowed to live.
i might have forgotten everything i could, but i never threw anything away.
you really don't remember?
now you're free, too.
i'm just a friend of a friend.
i'm doing this for you. just like i've always done.
don't call me that.
that's it, that's the show

‘ everything’s gonna work out. ’
lydia paused mid-step, boots scuffing lightly against the hotel’s checkered floor as the princess gave her that bright, earnest, painfully hopeful smile, radiating the kind of sunshine she usually only saw in children’s cartoons, aggressively positive self-help posters, and unsolicited advertisements for depression medication. the kind of smile that looked like it belonged in a children’s book, not in hell. not here.
“um…” lydia started, pushing her bangs behind her ear, “you say that with the confidence of someone who has never had a séance go sideways.”
she shifted her weight, hands stuffed awkwardly in the pockets of her black dress. it wasn’t that she wanted to disagree—it was just that, in her lived experience, the universe had not exactly gone out of its way to prove any of her optimism right.
“i’m not trying to be negative. it’s just—when people tell me stuff is gonna ‘work out,’ it usually means something is already on fire.”

BEETLEJUICE: THE ANIMATED SERIES 1.01 — Critter Sitters
‘ i do this bullshit like, eight times a week. ’ / from blitzø on @assassimp !
lydia didn’t scream, or jump, or even flinch when blitzø appeared in the alleyway like some extremely caffeinated hallucination. she just stared at him—dead-on, unimpressed, hands tucked into the sleeves of her black sweater as she watched him shove a suspiciously person-shaped bag into a dumpster.
she blinked once. slowly. definitely a demon. definitely not one of hers.
“…right.”
the goth teenager adjusted her camera strap, brushing a strand of black hair out of her face. no fear—just that tired, seen-it-all, vague annoyance that came from a lifetime of ghosts popping up during algebra class.
before blitzø could open his mouth again, she cut him off with a practiced rhythm:
“and before you say anything—yes, i know demons exist, yes, i can see you, and no, i’m not calling anyone about it.”
‘beetlejuice’ the musical starters — accepting.
‘ look at this stuff… god, it’s depressing. ’
lydia’s brows lift, not offended so much as tired of the assumption. the annoyed, slow blink she gave was basically the lydia deetz equivalent of a full-body eye roll.
“…wow. thank you for that very nuanced critique.”
she stepped closer to her shelf, gesturing lightly at the neat rows of objects—funeral cards, antique photographs, little scraps of letters that had survived generations, framed pressed flowers long since colorless, and the assortment of oddities she’d rescued from estate sales and forgotten attics.
items that would unsettle most people. items that have unsettled most people.
she snatched up one of her treasures—a faded funeral card—holding it like she was presenting evidence to a stubborn jury. “this—” she gestured at him, waving the card, “—is how families remembered each other. how they dealt with life and death without pretending nothing hurts.”
lydia slid the card back into place and turned to him fully, her expression flat in that specific teenage i cannot believe i have to explain this to you way. she nudged a small framed tintype back into alignment, muttering under her breath:
“…depressing, please. try ‘meaningful,’ maybe.”
‘beetlejuice’ the musical starters — accepting.
