“Dravenna wakes up.” The soft voice of one of the twins quickly woke me up. I rustle against the couch cushions before opening my eyes only to be met with Cassidy giving me the biggest smile I had ever seen.
“Good Morning Cassidy.” I say with a soft smile before sitting up. It was only then that I noticed the blanket wrapped around me.
After the twins had gone to bed, I stayed downstairs watching a few movies while Miranda finished a bit of computer work, but somewhere in that time I managed to fall asleep.
“Dravenna good morning!!" Coraline pitched in before running towards me and smiling.
“Good morning to you too Coraline.” I say fixing my curly hair.
“You’re up.” The voice of Miranda joined in, it was so warm like the sun on a cold day or a hot shower on a sick evening. I stand up and turn towards the direction Miranda's voice was at, only to be met with her at the kitchen making breakfast.
“When did you go to sleep?” I ask yawning just a bit and folding the blanket she had given me.
“Not very long after you.” Miranda says softly before serving the pancakes for her girls.
“Eggs?” Miranda asked me curiously now waiting for me to respond.
“Yes.” I nod my head before joining her in the kitchen and helping her out.
“Coraline and Cassidy breakfast.” I tell them before placing their forks and syrup on the counter for them to grab. The two quickly run and grab their plates thanking Miranda and me.
I then poured juice for them while Miranda cooked for the both of us. Once I finished up with helping the twins I stood beside her making sure she had everything she needed.
“Need any help?” I ask her softly, admiring her calm figure. She had her work clothes on but must've been waiting for the babysitter.
“Careful, I could get used to this.” Miranda says calmly while flipping the eggs. She seemed so at ease and relaxed with everything that was happening.
The food was finally served and we both quickly started to eat shortly after. Just as I was eating I noticed one small issue, I didn't bring spare clothes. Miranda seemed to notice the look on my face way before I could say anything.
“I left you some spare clothes on the table in the living room.” Miranda said calmly while taking a bite of her food.
“What would I do without you?” I asked out half jokingly, but if i took a second longer to actually consider that question it would be more than true. Miranda has been a huge part of my life. What would I do if she just walked out one day.
Not that I would ever let something like that happen, the thought alone made my skin crawl.
“Look for me at every corner this world has to offer.” Miranda says just as jokingly but it carried a weight to it.
Not long after the two of us had eaten, I had said my goodbye to Coraline and Cassidy before going to work. Due to the baby sitter coming a bit late both Miranda and I had arrived just a few minutes after our initial time.
It was barely noticeable but for people like us that was crucial.
I quickly walked in and looked for my back up assistant who was too busy chatting with another coworker.
“Jackie, did you get my message about pushing the delay?” I asked her curiously, waving at the other coworker beside her. The younger girl froze like a deer in headlights.
“I don't pay you to just sit around. I need the message sent that my client could be coming and I don't have any of the stuff ready for them.” I explained to her not wasting any time, the other coworker quickly walked away at the sound of my tone.
“Sorry Dravenna will get to it.” She quickly said going straight on her computer and typing away.
“While you're at it, look for another assistant to take Andrea's spot.” I add once more before walking away entirely.
I then go retrieving the things that the client had requested and stated to set it up in my section. A few of the coworkers nearby spotted me.
“Where have you been?” The lady beside me asked while setting her thing up as well. It was common for the people around me to ask such invasive questions after all, most of everyone in there have known each other for years.
“Busy.” I say vaguely not trying to seem so obvious, yet it sounds too out of character for it to come off as legit.
“Busy with you know who.” She says under her breath while winking at the other coworkers who laughed.
“Not this again, I will fire you.” I joke looking over at her with a small smile. Everyone else stared at her and gasped dramatically.
“You’re starting to sound like her.” She adds jokingly before cleaning down her section once more.
“If you think I sound like Miranda then you really haven't met her.”
“And you cannot leave this desk unless you are told so or on break.” Emily tells Andrea with a serious tone. The brunette just stares at her a bit unnerved from the chain of events.
“Got it.” Andrea said determined to prove her spot.
“Emily, did you tell Miranda that we are short on the Dior sets?” Nigel asked from the other side of the room. The Emily's face went pale at his question, completely forgetting to inform her.
“Ill call right now.” Emily said, sitting down on her desk and dialing the place's number.
Once everything was settled Emily let out a sigh of relief before confirming another thing on her computer. Nigel also seems to have finished up on his section before joining Emily.
“I can't wait for my appointment.” Emily says with excitement her smile growing bigger at the thought.
“Appointment of what?” Nigel asked, leaning against her desk and looking at her computer. Andreas' ears perked at their conversation but she remained quiet.
“With Dravenna.” Emily explains to Nigel showing him the confirmation for the day.
“I booked mine too.” Andrea added with excitement not able to keep herself out of the conversation.
“And I wasn't invited?” Nigel asked, noticing that the two are now leaving after work.
“Sorry, maybe there's room for you to join, she makes anything possible.” Andrea says with a soft smile.
“Who makes anything possible?” The voice of Miranda pitches in while she's reading a magazine of the latest fashion items.
“Dravenna, she's going to be doing our makeup.” Andrea explains to Miranda now getting more tense that she's joined the conversation. Miranda's eyes looked up instantly making eye contact with the two girls before fixing her glasses.
“Dravenna will be doing your makeup?” Miranda asked out almost as a self confirmation.
“Yes.” Emily clarified to the silver haired woman in front of them. But Miranda doesn't say much; she just puts her attention back to her magazine.
“Don’t overglam your face, the people in Paris will think I invited two clowns to the fashion show." Miranda simply says walking away from the three and back into her office.
Andrea just stares at Emily stunned that she would even say that. But by the look of Emily's face she was used to it, after all Miranda had a thing for being brutally honest.
“Thats Miranda, she's probably upset that Dravenna isn't coming to Paris.” Nigel says in a hushed tone in fear that Miranda would hear.
“Why would she be upset about that?” Andrea asked Nigel, confused at the suggestion.
“Thats like Miranda's wife.” Emily says her face is too close to the computer.
“Her wife?” Andrea says even more lost than before.
“You didn't know?” Emily peeks her head just to look at Andrea.
“Where have you been?” Nigel laughs before grabbing a few things and heading back to his section.
The break had come later for me than I had anticipated. Due to rush hour coming much earlier than expected it had led me to take much longer even pushing my break aside to attend to the clients.
Not that it bothered me since time flew by while I worked on them. Luckily everything ran smoothly and now I was just enjoying a sandwich I had ordered.
Most of everyone was closing their sections getting ready to clock out for the day. All except the hairstylist who stayed just as late as me due to some request being extensive.
As I was eating I heard the front door open, the moment I turned to look I was met with three people. Nigel, Emily, and Andrea.
“Look who decided to visit me.” I say with a big smile moving on my rolly chair to see them better.
“Dravenna! Unfortunately I'm the only one who came here with good intent.” Nigel tells me with a big smile before hugging me.
“Is that so?” I say hugging him back then looking at the other two.
“We are here for our appointments.” Emily says with a teasing smile. Andrea hugs me in the process.
“Is that why you're here?” I asked them, trying to sound oblivious.
“And here I thought you wanted to see me.” I added gesturing Emily to sit on the chair before prepping the stuff.
“Hate to break it to you.” Andrea says sitting down beside us, Nigel did the same wanting to see the process on Emily's Makeup.
“Well I suppose I could do this for you.” I sigh jokingly before wiping her face gently and retouching a few things. Emily just smiles at my response and closes her eyes.
“How was work?” I ask them curiously while working on Emily's makeup.
“Good Andrea was hired.” Emily mentions which makes me glance over at Andy curiously.
“I don't know how you did it but you saved my life.” Andrea says like a weight coming off of her shoulders.
“I don't know what you mean.” I act oblivious trying my best to act like I didn't play a part. After all, it was up to Miranda.
“Sure you do, you're the only one who can change Miranda's mind.” Nigel pitched in just as impressed as Andrea was.
“Miranda doesn't change her mind.” I explain to Nigel calmly. For the most part it was true.
“Only for you.” Emily adds, still having her eyes closed.
The comment should have affected me more than it did. The idea of Miranda being so set on and having no exceptions made me feel special.
Miranda wasn't one to express it with words, if she felt it she would just act on it which was one of the things I liked about her the most.
“You must be really close to Miranda.” Andrea notes with innocence. One of which Nigel just laughs at.
“Nigel, what's funny about that?” I ask him curiously not to catch on.
“You and Miranda are like a married couple and Andrea is now noticing.” Nigel explains to me, his suggestion alone made my heart skip. Did other people see the potential too?
“Nigel we are just close friends.” I tell him calmly, trying to dismiss his words.
“Sure.” Emily says sarcastically.
“That's what queer people said in the 80s.” Nigel adds, causing Emily to start laughing.
“You guys are insuperable.” I respond in defeat, apart from Miranda all three of them have been one of the longest people that have stayed in both of our lives.
Despite Emily, Nigel, and Andrea talking more to me outside of work. It was still nice to know that they are in the circle.
“You love us.” Nigel says with a big smile plastered on his face and hitting Andrea’s shoulder.
After I had finished Emily and Andreas' makeup, I gave them a few tips on how to keep the makeup for as long as they wanted. I then said my goodbyes to them and closed the shop entirely. Luckily everyone had also finished in their station for their night making it easier to close.
I then made my way back to my apartment. The place was small and it only had two rooms. You'd think with all of the income I would have a townhouse like Miranda.
Truthfully it was due to the absence of people, with Miranda she has her twins. But I didn't have that. It was a thing I had grown used to, but I'd be dying if I didn't get lonely sometimes.
I place my coat on the hanger and take off my shoes at the front. I then start making my way to the kitchen grabbing the leftovers from the other day. It wasn't until I had placed the tupperware into the microwave that I heard my house phone go off. I looked at the time the stove had displayed only to see that it was 11pm. Who could be calling at this hour.
With one last turn to glance at the timer, I make my way towards the phone and pick it up.
“Hello?” I ask curiously, holding the phone close to its stand.
“Dravenna..” I knew that voice all the way. Only this time it wasn't as calm and stern like it typically is.
“What’s the matter?” I finally ask more worried than before. It pained me to hear Miranda so bothered.
“I got into an argument with Stephen.” Miranda starts taking a big sigh before moving around. When Miranda would get like this she would sit in her room and drink some whisky to take the edge off.
“What now?” I sigh annoyed at the mention of her failure of an ex-husband.
“The girls were arguing about watching the Harry Potter movie with Stephen.” She says calmly trying her best to keep her emotions in check.
It was an antic I knew all too well.
“Really? did he take them?” I ask her curiously before taking a seat on one of the dinner table chairs.
“No, he wanted to take them to the zoo.” Miranda sniffles before taking a sip of her whiskey.
“But they don't like zoo animals, they like sea animals.” I say much softer taking a small note in their preferences. Even if it was a small thing for some, it was a huge difference.
“Thats what I told him, but he just wouldn't listen.” The older woman sighed against the phone, oh how exhausted she sounded.
“You know how Stephen can get, don't blame yourself for giving him a chance.” I reassured her softly, even if she wouldn't say it out loud, I knew that she needed it the most.
“To think he could change a bit.” Miranda sighed almost in disbelief with her own thoughts.
“How could I have been so foolish.” I could hear Miranda put a hand on her face. Her voice quivering as a desperate attempt to not crumble in that moment.
“Miranda, you've built your life from scratch, we were both dirt poor and managed to get to where we are at. For heaven's sake you are the backbone of runway, you may be other things but foolish isn't one.” My voice held an undeniable passion like no other, it was one thing to be upset but diminishing everything you've fought for isn't something I'd let Miranda do.
Miranda just chuckles at my response, her hand gently moving the glass she was holding. Even though I couldn't see it, the sound of it was too prominent.
“You feel very strongly about this.” Miranda mentions her voice much more regulated than before.
“Im feel strongly about many things.” I tell her gently this time leaning closer to the phone almost if that would change the distance that we both basked.
“I'm happy to have you Dravenna.” Her words were so genuine, there wasn't an ounce of wit nor sarcasm, it was just raw. This could have been a confession enough but my mind didn't let me settle with that.
I stayed quiet trying to muster up a response, but everytime i opened my mouth to speak my lips would shake just a bit and I would close them. It wasn't until then I closed my eyes taking a moment to decide.
‘Just say that you're happy too.’
‘Just say that you're happy too.’
The words came out with a thick honesty that even caught me off guard. It wasn't casual nor was it a typical ‘i love you.’ This held a want and desire. One of which scared me.
Because never in the decades I have known Miranda did I ever think I could feel this deeply.
There was a loud silence that came with that response. It was awkward and thick holding its anticipatory sensation.
“Don't get sappy you know how I feel.” By the sound of Miranda's casualty it had caught me off guard. I had expected her to hang up or even say something in the lines of ‘We are just friends.’ I didn't expect utter deflection.
“I mean it.” I clarify to her just as calmly trying my best to not sound too over the top. But the longer the conversation went on the more my hand would shake while I held the phone.
Was this how it feels like to be in love with someone who does not feel the same.
“Im sure you do.” She responds just as calmly as before, in the background the glass of her cup is head being placed on her glass table.
“I must go, I have a flight to catch, it was lovely talking to you.” Miranda calls it off, despite her cool and collected tone I knew that things weren't as simple as she made it out to be.
Did I cross the line? Was I too strong?
“Get some sleep, I loved talking to you as well. Goodnight and sleep well Miranda.” I tell her my last words, getting ready for her line to cut off any moment.
“Goodnight.” Was the last thing I heard her say before the line cut off. It was only then that I realized I didn't get the time to ask her everything I wanted to.
But maybe it was just that, she called in hopes to get some comfort then went to bed knowing that she had someone by her side. Even so I couldn't help but feel guilty for confessing to her at such a time. If i could even call it that.
It was an apathetic attempt, yet her response is what weight heavier with me.
After that call i had gone straight to bed losing my appetite entirely. Worst of all, I had gone to bed four hours ago only for me to just rustle against the bed. The call didn't sit right with me at all. Guilt was starting to become increasingly more overwhelming than I had intended.
I turned one more time getting irritated, I then sat up and turned on the light by my night stand. It was super late at night, but I needed someone to talk to. I grab my phone and search into my contacts.
Andrea, no she's a colleague.
Emily, nope she’s waking up early for the flight.
Nigel. But no, it was far too late. I couldn't wake him up for my own problems.
I had no one else to turn to; he was my only other option. I just swallowed my pride and pressed the call butting with much reluctance.
The phone rang about four times before the line finally picked up. I heard a light groan and a lamp turn on his end.
“Hello?” He asked, still groggy from sleep, It made me feel horrible the more I let this call drag on.
“Im sorry for calling.” I apologize for getting ready to hang up the call.
“No dont be, you never call so whats wrong?” Nigel asked with a more worried tone not letting me hang up just yet.
“...” It was a silence that hung in the air while I tried my best to grasp the right words to tell him.
“Dravenna what did you do?” Nigel asked, more worried than before.
“I confessed to Miranda.” A gasp was heard from the other line and quick movements were more apparent.
“How did it go?” Nigel questioned wanting to get more details on the new information.
“Horrible, we were both talking about something and it just came out.” I say mentally cringing at the recollection.
“What did she say?” Nigel sounds less happy by the third question.
“She just denied it and shortly after she ended the call.” I give him a brief summary not wanting to waste his time any longer.
“Hm, Your confession didn't stand out. You have to do something that makes her feel special, something that makes her see that you mean it for real.” Nigel explains to me with the most logical explanation.
“I know you mean it, but she needs to feel your love not just with words.” Nigel adds trying his best to not invalidate my attempts.
It's true, Miranda needs someone who says something and means it.
It can't be empty words just like Stephen had done.
“Thank you Nigel, I know what I have to do now.” I say I'm already making my decision in hand.
“I'm glad to help, Goodnight Dravenna.” Nigel tells me his smile sounding prominent from the other side,
“Goodnight Nigel.” I say gratefully before hanging up the phone. Once the call ended I couldn't help but feel ten times lighter.
It was a good choice to have called him.
I looked into my contacts and called my assistant now that I was still up. It was horrible to call them at such an hour but it was more than important.
“Hey is everything okay?” My assistant asked, her voice full of sleep with a mild hint of worry.
“Lina cancel my schedule for tomorrow and book me a flight to Paris.”
No one knew I was in Paris. Since their flight was much earlier in the day it was easier because that meant we wouldn't have crossed paths in the airport. But that also meant that no one could catch onto me being here.
Andrea was too busy planning a few things, while Emily worked on the schedule for Miranda. Nigel in the other hand didn't know as well but I was certain that I would find him at a bar somewhere.
Since all four of them were busy with the fashion week I decided to not bother any of them until it was over. Which meant i would be wandering the streets of paris for a few hours until i could contact any of them
That gave me enough time to look around Paris and find things so I could bring back the twins and for Miranda. Even now I was always thinking of those two, after all they have made a significant impact in my life.
I went from restaurants to grocery stores, even small businesses around the area. Paris was very packed around this time of year so it wasn’t as easy to buy gifts for people.
Not to mention the overwhelming amount of paparazzi that stormed the streets of Paris. It was excessive, Luckily in the midst of it all I wasn't caught in the cross fire.
Surprisingly time was going by super fast. Most of the day had been blurred by the thought of seeing Miranda again.
I was unsure whether she would react in a positive way or negatively.
My thoughts were quickly stopped by the announcement the store was having. I wasn't very fluent in French so it wasn't much that I caught on.
It wasn't until the TV in the store went on that they started broadcasting the fashion show that was going to take place in a few minutes.
There was a timer in the bottom section for five minutes.
The thought of Miranda showing up on screen even for a mere second left me with an excitement like no other.
I go and buy a few snacks before finding a chair closest to the tv that was on display. Much to my luck not many people at the place were very interested so they would just walk past. After the timer ran out an announcement came in and they started to present the pieces. Each model wore something from a different luxury brand, most of them were from Paris.
It wasn't until after five models came out that they finally started to present from other places. As the models kept being presented, the camera would alternate from the models to the crowd. All of them had their phones out recording it, some took plenty of pictures like the paparazzi.
Then there she was, Miranda sitting beside Andrea, Nigel and Emily. They all sat in the front of the stage. Nigel was very focused on each presentation, he'd occasionally lean in to whisper something into Miranda's ear.
Meanwhile Emily was taking pictures on her phone with the biggest smile on her face. Andrea kept tapping on Emily's shoulder and pointing at a few things.
Then came Miranda, she was there staring at each model, her features were neutral and she seemed to keep most to herself. Even now she was the prettiest woman in that room.
They all seemed to be enjoying the time there, and that was enough for me.
Time had gone by so quickly that the channel presented its last models for the day before announcing the end of the live show. Once the broadcast ended an ad played right after.
This was my cue for me to also start leaving the store entirely. I got up and started making my way to the exit of the store. It wasn't until I was about to leave that something had caught my attention.
It was a huge toy set of Harry Potter. The set contained the three main characters with two antagonists and a few other props. It was an ideal set for anyone who was a collector or fan of this series.
I look around the store curiously before catching an employee, i quickly walk my way to the person and give them a polite smile.
“Excause me, i was wondering if you guys have more of that set in stock.” I ask the younger man pointing at the box.
He turns his head and looks over at the direction before turning back to me.
“Yes we only have two more left.” He confirms with a small smile on his face. It was perfect both Cassidy and Coraline could get their own set without having to fight.
“Perfect, I'd like to take both of them.” The man's smile faltered ever so slightly at my request.
“Both of them? They are quite expensive.” The french accident came out almost too shocked to believe it.
I didn't even bother glancing at the price, not caring too much of it. Instead I turned to him with a determined look.
“I don't mind, just ring them up.”
I bought both of the sets and requested for them to arrive at Miranda's house. They had said it would take a week or more. Too stubborn I paid extra for fast shipping wanting to hear the reaction of the present.
It didn't matter to me if the twins weren't my blood, because they were family. And that much more than any blood relative has ever made me feel.
As I was walking down the late streets of Paris I got a phone call. Confused as to who it could be, I grabbed my phone to check. Only for me to find out it was Nigel.
“Nigel!” I call out loudly, excited to get his call.
“I wish you were here Miranda wouldn't stop mentioning you.” Nigel says, his voice sounds calm yet he sounded like he was on the move.
Now more curious than ever I couldn't help but ask.
“Really? What did she say?” I ask him while crossing the street and heading to one of the bus stops.
“It was small things like, ‘If Dravenna was here she'd give me a list of pieces she likes.’ or ‘Have you heard from Dravenna.” The thought of Miranda thinking of me even while she was off made my heart warm. She would never tell me this outright.
“That's super sweet, I miss her.” I couldn't help but admit to him, after all he was the only other person that knew.
I went to sit down and wait for a taxi to show up, only for me to witness a traffic jam and multiple cars honking at each other.
“Aww, are you outside?” Nigel mentions noticing the sounds of my background. I just smile at his response.
“About that….Im in Paris!" I say cheerfully hoping that he'd feel the same way about this information.
“You’re here!” The older man exclaims loudly, his reaction got a laugh out of me.
“Whos here?” Andreas voice pitches in on the call confused to who Nigel was talking to.
“No one.” Nigel dismisses bringing his voice back down to his cool and controlled manner.
“Nigel?” Emily now joins in more invested than before.
“Yes, I'm here.” I confirm to Nigel despite already announcing it to him.
“Omg is that Dravenna?” Andrea quickly catches the voice from Nigel's line.
“Am I a speaker!?” I ask in revelation, I had thought that the conversation was between us.
“I didn't think they'd be nosy.” Nigel sighs and continues his walk just like he had done this whole time.
“You can't keep a secret.” I told him, since people were hearing, I had to be careful with what I said.
“Sorry!!” Nigel apologizes dramatically, I just chuckle at his response before continuing.
“Anyway, I have a few gifts for the twins and a gift for Miranda.” I inform him calmly looking down at my watch to track the current time it was.
From the sound of Nigel's sound it seems like they had come back from the fashion show. Which was perfect timing.
“Aww.” Both Emily and Andrea said in unison.
“Shut up you two.” I sigh in response.
“What do you need from me?” Nigel ignores the two in the back and gets straight to the point.
“What hotel are you guys staying at so I could visit her?” I finally got the courage to ask him while looking around for the taxi.
“I can find you another key card for her room.” Andrea suggests listening into the call.
“Do that.” Nigel agrees letting Andrea go off.
“I'll send you the location.” Nigel quickly adds quickly and starts typing to me the place.
“I’ll distract her.” Emily also joins in, it was like a group assignment for them.
“Did I ever tell you guys how grateful I am for you three?”
Shortly after the conversation I got a taxi, I first took a quick stop to the hotel i was staying at. I changed and grabbed the gift that I had for Miranda. I then got another Taxi and went to the location Nigel had sent me.
Luckily the hotel wasn't far from the one I was staying at. It had only taken ten minutes due to the small traffic that there was.
Once the car stopped in front of the resort, I wasted no time getting out of the car. I took a light jog and walked inside. The inside of the place was huge, the entrance had a big water fountain and the workers all had nice attire.
This was a luxury resort to say the least.
“How can I help you?” One of the ladies walked up to me noticing my oblivious staring.
“Shes with me.” Before I could even speak, a male voice joined the conversation. I turn to see Nigel and the other two standing beside him.
“Nigel!” I say happy to see him now in person, I then walk towards him and pull him into a light hug.
“I'm happy to see you here.” Nigel says in response, hugging me back, I pull back and smile at him.
“Im happy to be here.” I tell him before hugging Emily and Andrea lightly.
“When you told Nigel that you wanted to see Miranda I had to quickly distract her.” Emily said with a big proud smile on her face.
“It was with Emily's help that I managed to get an extra copy of the key card.” Andrea said, giving Emily a small smile.
Emily glanced over at her, giving her the same smile, her look lingering for a minute longer than it should.
Even Nigel noticed, he gave me a quick look and I just smiled.
“What?” Andrea and Emily ask in unison staring at both Nigel and me.
“Nothing.” We both say in return trying to down play what they had just witnessed.
“What did you get her?” Nigel changes the subject, noticing the bag I had. The other two quickly looked at my bag and waited for me to show.
“Okay I got a pair of Christian Louboutin heels since the last one she had was wearing out.” Both Nigel and Emily gasp at the mention. Andrea on the other hand grabs the box and looks at the heels up close.
“These are beautiful.” Nigel notes looking at them with utter amusement.
“How did you get them? When I went to buy them they were out of stock.” Emily mentions being shocked at the sight of the heels.
“They are pretty but what's so special about them?” Andrea asks out obliviously, her hand still holding the box.
“Do you know how much these go for?” Emily asks now, offended by Andreas' comment.
“They may look like regular heels but to the experts and anyone who is in the fashion industry this is a sign of luxury. The black gives it class and elegance with the red on the bottom to make them stand out.” Nigel explains a little to Andrea who was still staring at them cluelessly.
“I need to give you a few lessons.” Emily resorts already getting bored by the back and forth.
“Id like that.” Andrea says in response, it quickly makes both Nigel and I stare at one another just like the last time.
“Anyway, can you give her the key card? I want to go drink.” Nigel finally mentions losing interest in whatever was happening in front of them.
“Right Emily, can you take it from my pocket?” Andrea asks her before closing the box and putting it back inside of the bag I had. Emily just nods and pulls the key from her pocket before handing it to me.
‘Goodluck!!” they all said in unison.
“Thank you all once again.” I say gratefully in response before quickly jogging to the elevator and checking the number the card had.
The ride on the elevator didn't take very long since there wasn't anyone joining in. I managed to get on the third floor within two minutes of me getting in. I then made my way towards the hallway quickly glancing from the key card to the room numbers.
After what felt like ten rooms I managed to get to the number that the card had displayed. ‘Room 245’. This was it, my chance to see Miranda after the call that we had shared the night before.
But even now I couldn't control the nerves that were overcoming me. Was this dumb should I have even gone all this way?
My mind couldn't stop spiraling.
Without thinking, I grabbed the key card and swiped it. Perhaps I should have knocked beforehand but I had already acted on the decision.
I then gently open the door and close it behind me, locking it in the process. I started by the hallway debating if I should walk any further.
“Andrea? Did you keep my key?” The voice of Mirandas radiates from the room, my body fully stilled at the sound of her voice.
She sounded calm but curious for the most part.
“Andrea?” She finally asked out again after not getting a response. That was my sign to walk up to her.
With that I took a few steps following the voice I had just heard. I was then met by the small living room this room had. There I spotted Miranda sitting at the couch with a whiskey in hand. She was drinking again.
Something must've happened.
The silvered haired lady turned her head only to be met with my standing figure.
“…” There was a silence that filled the air, one of uncertainty and confusion. Miranda then went to take a sip of her whiskey before speaking.
“You're in Paris." Her voice was calm like she always is and her features remained the same. It was hard to tell if she was excited or not.
“I am in Paris." I confirmed it to her just as calmly as she had been doing. Miranda's eyes then glanced down to the bag I had in hand. But she didn't make a reaction nor comment.
Instead she waited for a second, debating on who would speak first.
“Why did you come all this way to see me?” Miranda finally asks me the only question that seems to be evident.
Her eyes never leave me, and she makes no attempt to take another sip from her glass, instead she waits for me to finally respond.
“Because I noticed last night I came off completely wrong. You're used to people telling you things with no action.” I start my hands uncontrollably clamming up and my heart beating like it would break my bones.
“What is this about Dravenna?” Miranda cuts the chase, she seemed more impatient than before there obviously a reason that i was here. And Miranda was wasting no more time to get to the bottom of it.
Everything in my head was telling me not to. Just excuse yourself and walk away. But if i did i would never forgive myself for not trying.
It would break me if I saw the woman I loved be with someone else after all this time.
I took a deep breath before looking at Miranda much more confidently.
“I love you Miranda. I've always loved you, before all of the fame and money when we were just two twenty year olds living off of the little paycheck we had. You're the most ambitious, dedicated, perfectionist I've ever met. And I wouldn't want you any other way.” I confess I'm unable to hold it back any longer, Here and now I wanted her to know.
Miranda's eyes widen and her hand on the glass instinctively tightens. It was quick but long enough for me to notice.
“I love you too.” Miranda confesses softly, but not as intently as had done. I look down at the bag I was holding and just embrace reality.
We had been friends for all these years, nothing more nothing less.
But the sound of that response set Miranda off, she placed the glass down and stood up.
“Don't be ridiculous just because I don't say it doesn't make it any different.” Miranda quickly responded, not taking my words lightly.
It caught me off guard, I quickly looked back up to Miranda instantly meeting eyes with her.
“You're my better half, if I could live a lifetime with you it wouldn't be enough. Even now it is not enough. I can't live my life without you in it, Dravenna.” Miranda's hands gently held onto the side of her robe, almost fidgeting at her confession. The confession came straight from her heart.
She wasn't big with being vulnerable and confessing how she feels, but this one was one hell of a way to say it.
Too stunned to speak, I just place the bag on top of the table and make my way towards her. Miranda seemed to notice the change in the atmosphere, she remained quiet and just waited for what I'd do.
I then started making my way towards her.
“What I should've done years ago.”
With that I cup her face and pull her into a kiss. Miranda let out a light gasp before melting into the kiss. Her body stilled against the touch, not expecting such a motion.
It didn't take very long before her arms wrapped around my neck and pulled me deeper into a kiss. I couldn't help but let out a light moan against her lips now that we were so close.
Once Miranda heard my response to her touch, she pressed her body against mine. I remove one of my hands from the side of her face and pull her in by the waist holding her in place. Miranda pulls away from the kiss and I lean in to kiss her jaw. The kisses trail down to her neck reaching the collarbone.
A light moan escaped Miranda's lips and goosebumps cover her body ever so slightly. As she had thrown her head back to give me more access, we both managed to lose our balance and nearly trip.
The two of us fell back against the couch, Miranda still had a grip on me causing me to fall on the couch with her. Luckily Miranda had landed on a sitting position and I barely touched landed on top of her.
We both just stared at one another sharing the same shocked look. After a minute the two of us burst out laughing from what just happened. I then sit beside her still trying to catch my breath, Miranda on the other hand just touches my hair while laughing.
Eventually the laughing dues down and we both just stare at one another quietly. This time it was much softer.
We were actually seeing each other, in a different light. And it felt like total bliss to be stared at with so much love.
Miranda then leaned in and pulled me into another kiss. This wasn't spontaneous or quick. It was soft and slow, certain and calm.
When we both pulled away I just smiled at her before grabbing the bag and handing it to her.
“Whats this?” The silver haired woman asked me curiously, still not looking inside the bag.
“Open it, I got you a gift.” I say with a big smile, adjusting myself so I could see her reaction better.
Miranda hesitated for a second giving me a skeptical look. She then opened her bag and reached in. The first thing she grabbed was the box, she pulled it out and placed it on her lap.
“You did not.” Miranda started, still skeptical about the box she had in front of her.
“I did.” With that Miranda opened the box only to reveal the same heels I had shown the group before this.
Miranda wouldn't say it, but by the look in her eyes it was obvious that she had not expected something like this.
“Theres another thing.” I quickly mention not wanting her to get too distracted on the heels.
Miranda placed the box on the couch and put the lid of the box. She then reached in and grabbed the other thing. This one was smaller and it was wrapped in wrapping paper. Miranda put it on her lap and slowly removed the wrapping paper.
Once it was removed the perfume landed on her hands. Only that this wasn't a typical perfume, this was one of the fragrances that Miranda had adored before she started working on the runway. The problem was that it had been discontinued and the last bottle she had was empty leaving her with the memory of what the smell was like.
I would never forget how sad Miranda looked the day she found out that it was discontinued and that she had used up the last bit.
After that day I secretly looked endlessly for it. From the past bottles to the ingredients. Yet when I would go to stores none of them matched the scent. It wasn't until a trip in Paris that I found a store that specializes in making the perfect fragrances and perfumes for people.
Fast forward to nearly two decades I managed to perfect the very perfume she once wore endlessly.
“What is this?” Miranda asked looking at the bottle, due to it not having a brand marked on it she just kept staring at it.
“Smell it.” I encourage her leaning in against the couch and waiting for me to see her reaction.
The older woman gives me a skeptical look before spraying it on the top of her hand and leaning in to smell. It was only then when she took a small sniff that she realized what it was.
Her eyes instantly widened and her body seemed to have relaxed at the fragrance.
“How did you..?” This was the first time I had actually seen Miranda speechless.
“I have my ways.” I simply say in return I am unable to stop myself from admiring her.
Miranda just leans in and pecks my lips giving me all the thank yous that words couldn't say.
“What would I do without you?” Miranda asked me softly, looking at my eyes.
“Look for me at every corner this world has to offer.” I say in response, giving her a soft smile.
“I wouldn't have to look for very long because our souls are too intertwined to ever be apart.”
“Mommy, the delivery man brought two huge boxes.” Cassidy tell Miranda from across the hallway. Coraline stops playing with her doll and looks at Miranda confused before running to the front.
“I didn't order anything.” Miranda mentions just as confused as her two daughters.
“I did.” I add drying my hands and making my way to the front. With the help of the delivery guy we both managed to get the two boxes into the living room.
“What is it?” Cassidy and Coraline asked curiously. Miranda on the other hand stood by the doorframe of the living room and kept her arms crossed.
“Open it.” I instruct the two with a big smile joining Miranda.
Miranda was about to ask me the same thing but instead she just watched her two sisters rip the package box open. Once they peeked in they both yelled in pure excitement.
“What is it?” Miranda asked, still confused at what could possibly get them to reach that way.
“It's a harry potter set!!” They both yell pulling the boxes out of the delivery box and revealing the huge package.
Miranda quickly looked at me not believing what she had just stared at.
“Can we play with it now?” Coraline begged before opening the box impatient.
“I want to play with it now!!” Cassidy was just as excited as her twin sister.
“We have to go and watch the harry potter movie before building that.” I quickly tell them to dismiss their request lightly.
“Yes, the movie!!” They booth say in unison quickly picking their messes and grabbing their shoes.
“Give Dravenna a thank you.” Miranda said sternly not letting them leave her sight just yet. The two twins wasted no time to run up to me and hug me.
“Thank you, we love you!!” They said both giving me a kiss on the cheek and not letting go of me.
“I love you guys too.” I smile holding them and planting a kiss on top of their head. The two quickly ran to get their jackets.
“Thank you.” Miranda wrapped her arm around me and leaned into my shoulder.
“The least I could do.” I say in response before pulling her into a kiss.
I desire violently– and I wait because your love is the only one I could ever want.
