So this is my datefriend! Their name is unpronounceable in any mortal tongue, sorry -- I’m pretty sure if I tried to spell it it’d just end up sending a bunch of people to hell or something, and I mean that’s not really fair to just spring on people imo so I won’t. I’ll call them D on here so you know who I’m talking about. (The D stands for Datefriend)

ANYWAY

They’re a bird demon and they live two ferry stops up from me in Purgatory, there’s kind of a little bird demon neighborhood over there. Their people are native to a couple different hells and they eat souls. Like I said before most of my clients are cool people but if I get a real jackass -- well I have authority over where I lead people to, it doesn’t HAVE to be the road they choose for themselves that’s just how I think it works out best for most people, yanno? So like, once in a while, somebody’s a piece of shit, and then me and D schedule a dinner date v(._.)v

D’s in a band which is actually how I met them, I used to date somebody who played drums and after we broke up my ex joined the band D’s in and I went to their show cuz I’m still friends with my ex and D was playing this like complicated woodwind that I don’t know the name of except in the unpronounceable-in-mortal-tongues bird demon language but anyway I was honestly like look at the legs on that bird, damn so when I went over to talk to my ex after the set I was like hey can you introduce me and it turned out they’re super cool and really smart and they have this really wicked sense of humor (but none of the jokes translate :C) and we’re both into like hiking and shit and basically they’re just awesome idk. So that’s my datefriend!

Haha oh man, Charon. OK so I don’t like to talk shit about people -- I mean I don’t even talk shit about the souls I sell to the bird-demons, and those are souls that I sold for dinner for a reason, you know? -- but oh man, Charon, hahaha. 

OK so I assume anybody following me knows who he is -- he’s The Ferryman (NOT to be confused with Ferryman’s, which is a ‘pomp company that just kinda profits off the association with his name, right). He’s the ONLY ferryman crossing The River, all the other ferries are like going up and down The River or across other rivers (we have SO MANY RIVERS). There’s bridges and shit too but if you want to take a boat you’re gonna be hiring Charon, right?

So like I normally take the Brig o Doom over because it saves a lot of money (three coins each way adds up when you do this for an unliving!!!) but a couple trips ago it was raining (Underworld rain fucking sucks ftr it just pisses down on you and makes everybody miserable) so I didn’t feel like walking (the Brig doesn’t even have railings so it’s EXTRA miserable in the rain) so I dug a few pennies up out of the bottom of my bag and hailed him 

And like I mean, you know me, right, even if you don’t know me you can look at this ask and see how like I’ve used three paragraphs up already, I’m a talker, and Charon -- OK like I said I don’t like to shit talk people but holy shit Charon really seems like kind of an asshole? I mean he’s not that bad of an asshole because he doesn’t shit talk to your face or start fights or whatever but WOW he’ll just sit there and IGNORE YOU. I think he’s wearing headphones under his cowl and I tried to get him to talk about like what music he’s into or whatever but WOW he just BLANKED ME. Like it takes A WHILE to get across The River and since it’s a liminal space the Underworld wifi doesn’t work and I can’t use my phone or anything and he’s not even gonna say “hi” back? RUDE

BUT I guess he’s been doing his job for a REALLY LONG TIME and maybe you get tired of people eventually. I hope not!! I want to keep doing this for a while and I really hope I don’t get tired of people :C

Yo, Jill, so tell me, what's your fave part of the Job?

Getting to know people! That’s why I work for Wakeroads -- Ferryman’s and a lot of the other big outfits aren’t personal enough, they go for high volume and their pomps are basically taxi drivers. Wakeroads is artisan pomping kinda. I get to spend time with my clients and really get to know them and hear their stories and help them figure shit out. Most of the time my clients turn out to be real sweethearts too -- I’ve only ended up selling, like, four souls to the bird-demons, cuz my clients are usually really cool once we spend some time together. 

It’s funny but you don’t really hear a lot of cool stories from people in the Underworld, cuz most everybody forgets shit from when they were alive & Purgatory’s pretty boring, yanno? So it’s really cool to get to hear people’s autobiographies right after they’ve wrapped ‘em up.
