I was holding off on posting these until I came up a couple more concepts but wrestling with the muses is not fun.

Randy Mann was the first commissioner of the NHL/MLH. In a biography written by one of his children reveals that he was in a Lavender marriage and that his “brother” was actually his long-term partner.

Randy Mann is the Captain of the Houston Drillers (can I say that I love the Logo created for the show but I do want to see the concept art that was rejected), his wife is on The Real Housewives of Houston.

Ever since I found History of Everything's YT series "The Russian Navy Sucks", I kind of want to go into a Russian Military History rabbit-hole and use those stories for some 40k fanfics.

Because that level of incompetence is fucking inspired!

Ilya Rozanov - Children's Author

Jane Dutch by thisisnotthenerd seems to have spawned a sub-genre which is "Shane Hollander's second life as a Romance Novelist".

Now I want to put out there this plot bunny; Ilya Rozanov moonlighting as a children's author.

Ilya Rozanov tells stories to his niece, he gets the idea that he should publish these stories. Cue Ilya writing a series of children's books that are mildly subversive but managing to become popular in Russia.

One Story Title Idea; "The Boy Who Loved The Sun", a little allegory about being true to yourself. Ilya is the boy and Shane is the Sun.

Further Lives of Randy Mann

More character prompts for a HR/GCS character called Randy Mann. See this post for the original idea; [link].

A rookie for the Boston Raiders/Boston Bears (while Ilya is captain); who after a night of drinking with Ilya swears off alcohol and becomes Straight Edge.

An older commentator who is supportive of Shane's and Ilya's relationship is a homophobic way that older men are. (Based this idea on how my grandfather is supportive but not in a PC way.)

A winger for Winnipeg (couldn't think of a clever Jet based pun-y names beside Sonic Boom) who as a rookie introduced himself as Randy "THE MAN" Mann to the locker room only to be told by a vet that he isn't "The Man" he is just "some guy" and now as the nickname Guy.

Miranda "Randy" Mann is a defenseman for the Metros/Voyagers sister org the Montreal Stars/Montreal Etoiles (stole that from Jane Dutch) who had the misfortune to date one of the Metros/Voyagers.

Equipment manager for one of the teams who has a blog where he spills important information; simply because he is a gossip and his wife has no patience for it.

I want to thank Visaerra for the lovely fic "The Loon and My Man" [link] for these lovely little ideas that popped into my head.

Post-retirement Shane gets into wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. The cottage becomes a haven for loons, Canadian geese and other water birds as they get nursed back to health.

Ilya finds a solidary chick that was either abandoned or separated from its mother. He raises it till adulthood (with help to ensure it can released in the wild), he gets dramatic because it's a LOON. He did not give permission for his feathered child to become a wolf bird.

Not A Plot Bunny, But A Original Character Idea.

As an Australian, I find the lack of a character named Randy in the gay hockey book series or the gay hockey TV show disappointing. For those unaware; Randy is Aus/NZ/Brit slang for horny and the fact the NA considers this a perfectly acceptable name for boys/men is something we find funny.

So my Original Character name for any and all fanfic writers to use is Randy Mann. This name amuses me so, so much.

Randy Mann could be many things;

He could be the coach of the much aligned Buffalo team in a long distance relationship with his wife because that woman knows her worth and that worth does not include living in Buffalo.

He could be a fan favourite referee who played for the MHL for 2 seasons and served an eyewatering 400+ minutes for penalties.

He could be the replacement centre for Boston after Ilya leaves for Ottawa. Will constantly chirp at Ilya about the girl he left Boston for. When Hollonov are outed will start chirping Shane as well.

The teenage son of a player that comes out to Shane or Ilya or Scott during one of their away games in a desperate need to be seen and acknowledged.

The long term partner (he hates the concept of marriage) of Shane's mate Dev (the Olympic Speed Skater from the HR book that Shane knows is out).

The barista that serves Ilya his coffee (good coffee not any of that American swill) that constantly jokes about being in a throuple with Ilya and his coffee.

Seriously I want the name Randy Mann to become a running character name/joke in the HR/GC fandom. Because this name amuses me and that is because I am a giant child.

Finally Re-Heating!

Thanks to getting a free in-game item for linking my WB Games Account to my HBO Max I re-subbed to HBO Max for this month and am finally doing the re-heating I've wanted to do for months.

I wanted to pay close attention to the Prospect Cup scenes because AnonymousAranara mentioned in one of her fics that she saw the name LaPointe as one of Shane's Team Canada teammates.

Sports Journalist Shane AU

Plot Bunny!

Shane gets injured, so badly injured that he has to quit hockey, before 2008 and therefore never meets Ilya at World Junors.

Shane decides that since he can't play hockey, he'll write about hockey. He goes to university, gets a degree in Journalism, becomes a sports journalist.

He ends up being the only journalist who can get anything out of Ilya Rozanov. He'll bring a recording device and tells Ilya; "if you have trouble answering in English feel free to answer in Russian I can translate later". Ilya is like; hot guy with freckles is talking to me, yes more!

also now that rachel has talked about this again and said Shane does NOT have an ED I want to say that I’ve never really read shane as having an eating disorder tbh. I’ve had this same mindset when I read the books and watched the show. i get why people bring it up but to me it’s always felt way more like athlete routine + his need for control.

like i have literal family members who play sports and their diets are very much that. structured, repetitive, a bit intense if you’re not used to it but it’s about performance and consistency more than anything else. so when i read shane it just feels familiar in that sense.

i don’t know the specifics of pro hockey diets but athletes in general tend to follow pretty strict nutrition for recovery, stamina, keeping their bodies in a certain condition. so with shane specifically it lines up with his personality too, he takes hockey seriously, he wants to be the best and he sticks to what works.

the control aspect especially just feels very him. routine, discipline, knowing exactly what he’s doing and why.

also rachel’s never said he has an eating disorder. people can interpret things however they want and i get that a lot of those takes come from personal experience, which is valid but it’s still interpretation, not something that’s actually stated.

at the end of the day he’s a fictional character and sometimes it feels like people forget that what’s in the text matters just as much as what is read into it.

I Am Throwing Down The Gauntlet!

This is not a plot bunny but a challenge.

I have read "biting my tongue swallowing it down" by yellobaby and "Grin and Bear It" by Giveemhale. I have decided that there are not enough fics in this sub-genre I am calling "Troy Barrett - Forgiven Not Forgotten".

Troy Barrett was an arsehole in Toronto. He was saying homophobic shit (on and off the ice) and was undoubtedly saying transphobic, racist and misogynistic bullshit as well.

So I want fics where current day Troy or those that surround him to be confronted with who he was.

Harris having to deal with on a video compilation of Tory being caught by fans saying these things going viral.

Scott Hunter being conflicted about publicly supporting Troy because of things he said; not only to himself but to Carter as well.

Shane tolerating Troy, having this whole; just because I have forgiven you doesn't mean I have to like you.

Someone outside of the Cens telling Brood that is a good thing he is white-passing because of the things Toys has said to them and would hate to have Brood deal with that.

Ryan Price standing up for himself and telling Troy he doesn't forgive him.

An official Centaur twitter post about International Women's Day or something like that gets the hashtag they used getting hijacked by non-Cens players to reiterate what Troy said about their Wives/Girlfriends, Mothers and Daughters.

Seriously I want Troy FAFO fics! Also if anyone has a fic rec please give me a link.
