Just finished my second full New Vegas play-through and it’s still super good. I’m especially fascinated with the warped mindset and philosophy of the cosplay king, Edward Sallow.
He talks as if he’s so much smarter than everyone else because he reads books and speaks a little latin, but reading doesn’t mean shit if you can’t comprehend what the words are trying to tell you and to quote Arcade, “many people have spoken latin, some of them were quite pleasant.”
Caesar is the epitome of ‘those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.’ He might have read a book on Rome but he didn’t learn anything from it. There’s a difference between knowing what the Rubicon is and realizing that crossing it is a point of no return that could just as easily end in disaster as success. Caesar didn’t just adopt their conquest tactics, he adopted all their failures, too, by expanding to a point that becomes hard to manage, making far more enemies than allies, and not setting up a line of succession even though he knew he was dying.
Plus, he doesn’t even cosplay Rome all that accurately—granted we only see his armed forces and not what he established in the east but he makes it sound as if civilization needs to be destroyed by savagery in order to survive which is not what Rome really was. Rome was a full society with a senate and democracy and architecture and art, culture, religion…and also a lot of gay sex that is entirely absent from the Legion.

The Colorado wasn't even his Rubicon, its just a river with enemies on the other side. Not what that means eddy. The closest thing in game to his rubicon would be if he marched on New Canaan and Zion instead of having the White Legs do it
