Although soccer is sometimes full of dives and fake crying to get the call, it is not a sissy sport and people should know that soccer is a very physical and rough sport to play. Also, soccer players get all the girls. Soccer is full of slide tackles, red cards, and risking your head to win the ball in the air in a group of players going for the same object.
Growing up playing soccer was a great experience but also had some cons. The constant questioning of, “you have great size, why don’t you play a real sport like football?” (every football coach in High School)  “Soccer is so easy, you just run and kick the ball” (Every douchebag football player in High School). It is so much more than that, in a article by the NY daily news they did a study on which sport ran the most and of course, soccer finished in first. The study says “Long games, a massive field and a constantly moving ball add up to serious distance for soccer players. STATS puts the average at 7 miles per game depending on position, and as much as 9.5 miles for some players (not including goalies, of course).” Thats 7 miles per game at the least, all of this running for 90 minutes straight on top of the physical parts of the game including sliding, jumping and diving. I would love to see any other athlete from another sport do this while also trying to score on a defense. Also, soccer players get all the girls.Â
In a article written by Bleacher Reports Shawn Sieiro, Sean talks about how his friends are always bad mouthing soccer and calling it a sissy sport and he argues that by saying "Besides, football...soccer...has its own bloody share of tough guy moments. We have our bloody instigators, we have our sodding assholes, and we do have those wankers that are moronic enough to dive on the pitch. Basketball players get called for touching an opponent's hand or shoulder barging, and rightly so. Imagine if you left your bloody feet only to be hit mid-air. You wouldn't bloody well enjoy your landing." I totally agree with this, people always call soccer players out for diving but somehow forget about basketball players constantly flopping to get a call, it’s just part of sports today. Also, soccer players get all the girls.Â
I think that soccer is slowly getting the respect that it deserves and I can see it being one of the top sports in the US coming soon. To support this here is a quote by Filip Bondy of Forbes and he says “A Gallup poll released last week found that 7% of Americans named soccer as their favorite sport to watch in a survey completed during December. While that may not sound like much, the figure represents a significant, three-percentage-point gain from just four years ago. Soccer is the only sport to post such a large increase. Football (37%, down from 39%), basketball (11%, down from 12%) and baseball (9%, down from 13%) all showed declining numbers. Hockey was at 4%, up from 3%.” (Bondy) This may not seem like a lot but it is a huge grow for soccer fans here in the US. Also, soccer players get all the girls.Â
