An Open Letter To Tumblr Staff
Let’s be honest here I know not many people will see this, read this or frankly care about what I have to say, but I feel it is my duty to share with you how tumblr has changed my life.
When I joined this site back in April 2017 I was lost, I was miserable with my job and I was looking for some kind of place, a community of like minded people who I could connect with. I found it here on tumblr in the hypno-kink community. I started getting inspired to make content by amazing people who were making their living spreading their kink with the world and being proud. Tumblr gave us a space to do that by allowing explicit content to be tagged and away from children. I made a small business here online and amassed a small following.
As of yesterday I lost my friends, my family, my community. We have been torn apart by the flagging of NSFW content. Even though my page is still relatively okay with only a few posts being taken down, I have lost something far greater than my library of work, I lost my community. Time and time again we have been silenced for kink. Shamed by society as weird and deviants but who are you to tell us what we can or cannot create. I make part of my living making audio and video content that I would share here with people and now all of that is gone. I have to start over from scratch and for what? For corporations in a country I DON’T EVEN LIVE IN to decide what the fate of my channel will be.
I did all my tumblr work for free. I spent hours crafting the image I wanted people to see and sharing my views on consent. I used tumblr to help people like myself who were afraid to show their true selves and inspire them to be proud with all aspects of their lives including their sexuality and their kinks. Now, all that is destroyed.
So, tumblr staff I hope you are happy with the knowledge that globally you have set out to destroy not only small businesses but the communities that help people come into their own and feel safe. You have ravaged our home and our hub for friends and support alike, and for that I don’t think I can ever forgive you.

What sucks the most is that Tumblr was founded as a place for free expression of all kinds.
Tumblr @staff spent years not just allowing but encouraging people to make their NSFW home here. Homes feature humour and silliness, and songs and quotes from our favourite shows and pet pictures and yes, even sex and porn because that’s just what adults are into. And not at a designated time, on a designated website, we do it when we feel like it because we’re not robots. (Well… Except for the robosexuals and those of us who want to be hypnotized to believe we are…)
Anyway…
Yes we can hang out on whatever platform pornhub or whoever ends up creating, but this being the “place for adult content” wasn’t the point. It was about being ourselves in all our moods and mindsets. Not saying “Oh okay, I want to talk comics, pets, jokes and then porn so I’ll go hang out on Comiclr, Petlr, Jokelr and Pornblr in turn.”
If you want to kick hate-speech and child abuse off the platform, no-one is going to have a problem with that, and the majority of your community will help you every step of the way, but you don’t protect anyone by destroying a community like this.
Honestly, it’s like finding someone’s snuck some kiddy porn into a book shop and your reaction is instead of dealing with the actual culprit is to BAN ALL BOOKSHOPS.
Apple get over yourselves. None of these companies are encouraging child abuse.
Oath, Verizon and Yahoo, this is only going to kill Tumblr in the long run and cause further damage to your reputations as small minded, short sighted overlords who never understood what made the platforms you run into the ground good.
The petition has over 350,000 signatures now if anyone wants to sign it.
Well said
