Blank Lives Matter.
Often black, brown, trans lives matter Movements has been misinterpreted by the media and white people. Black, brown, trans groups have been marginalized, underrepresented, and profiled for years in America. These movements are not about comparing races, they are about the fact that social economic structure is designed against black, brown, trans people, it’s about why the average life of a trans person of color is early thirties, it’s about how you’re 3x more Likely to be killed by the police if you’re black, it’s about how young black people can be killed by the police and there’s no mention of their name on television, it’s about DACA recipients being forced out of the only country they’ve ever known, and the list keeps going. It’s time these underrepresented groups get a seat at the table and the mic.
I decided to let this public installation be interactive. I included the words: BLACK, BROWN, TRANS, ALL, BLUE, WHITE, LIVES, MATTER. I included the counter movements to see if the public of Uptown ( a predominant white area), Denver, Colorado would choose white, all, or blue. The public is able to switch the words around as they like. I included pictures of what movements I choose and I hope the public will choose what they deem important.
I’m periodically going to come back and see if the public has interacted what so ever.
Existential Lyricism 1. Lyric: Seems these days I’m captive in this borrowed time. Location: Art building lockers Why: lockers are a reminder of all the work I have ahead, at the end of semester I’m feeling exhausted and lacking time. STRUNG OUT 2. Lyric: Should’ve of stayed in bed today, I much prefer the mundane. Location: Inside bathroom stalls of art building. Why: when sitting on a toilet, what does one think of? I usually zone out, wonder what I’m doing with my life, think about how tired I am, think about what work I have to do. So why not be reminded of how we all rather stay in bed today. 3 Lyric: I wanna feel the days go by, not stack up. Location: unapproved art in an approved only art location Why: at the end of the semester, I’m feeling desolate and feeling like everyday is filled with more work and exhaustion. Continuing the existentialism theme. Also Tried to stack the lyrics to emulate the feeling.

Ever wake up and feel like a woman? or a man? or both? I do. Gender fluidity is the daily ever changing feeling of identifying as a man, woman or both. This series explores the feeling of gender fluidity through physical representation.

Gif
The Gif, or graphical interchange format, was created in the intent to provide a color image for file downloading. A gif is comprised of a 256 color palette. Though gifs are intertwined in our social media and main stream media, gifs have been around since 1987. Many gifs were made as side projects for computer programmers but since then gifs have become so much more. Gifs can be seen as entertainment, art, trash, worthless, priceless, or timeless. Gifs are short, low quality, and because there are some many some say they are worthless. Gifs are considered digital art and are being sold at auctions and displayed in museums throughout the world.
I find gifs awesome. Digital technology has surpassed gifs’ technology yet they are still prominent. Gifs can be nostalgic, emotionally evoking, infinite and trashy. You can loose yourself within a gif by continually watching itself loop. Because of this, I find gifs powerful. It was inevitable that gifs would be monetized in my opinion. Because they are intertangled within our culture, they can be seen as modern narrative or contemporary art.
Whether a gif is projected at the MCA or sent to you by your friend, doesn’t diminish its value. Gifs are here to stay.
Gifs can create this sense of foreverness. You can stare it for the longest time and become lost within another world.
A gif from a movie can be a great way to transport the viewer to that specific feeling of the scene and the emotions that were felt.
