Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Do Bong Soon is just like any other girl—she has a crush on her best friend, a dream, and super strength. Okay, maybe not exactly like other girls. She’s hired by the CEO of a video game company as his bodyguard, but while working for him, a kidnapper targets her, forcing her to use her strength to protect the people she loves most.
If I had a nickel for every time someone told me to watch this drama, I’d be rich by now. I’m a huge fan of Park Hyung Sik and Park Bo Young, but this drama just didn’t seem like my cup of tea. Sometimes, fantasy elements in shows aren’t my favorite.
That said, I really enjoyed Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. Park Bo Young, who plays Do Bong Soon, was, as always, fantastic. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in a role where she wasn’t great. As Do Bong Soon, she perfectly captured the struggle of a girl who just wants to be normal but is clearly grappling with something much bigger.
Her chemistry with Park Hyung Sik, who plays Ainsoft CEO An Min Hyuk, is off the charts. You could tell they really cared for each other outside of the drama. Plus, Park Hyung Sik nailed the arrogant-but-protective character type. He ended up being one of my favorite parts of the show.
I didn’t, however, love the ending. That might be controversial, but I don’t think the last episode was necessary. It could have ended with everything working out and them getting back to dating, and I would have been fine with that. I enjoyed the wedding scene and the (SPOILERS) twin reveal, but I didn’t need to see much past that. Once the twins were born, it almost felt like Do Bong Soon’s personality changed. It seemed out of character for her to leave the kids with her husband to go fight crime. Maybe it’s just me. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. Maybe it ties into Strong Girl Nam Soon? I haven’t watched that one yet.
I’d recommend this drama to anyone looking for a feel-good romance with some heavy drama. It’s funny, smart, well-acted, and a classic for a reason. You can watch Strong Woman Do Bong Soon on Viki.
