Timeline of Media would help us know the history of technology, of how people before deliver their message to the people they missed, people who they want to send information. Before, they were just painting in caves to record or draw the series of events. As time passes by, typewriters and printing press were invented for everyone who wants to print information for everyone. Until such time Electronic Age came, computers were discovered that has essential use to store information. Presently, The New Media has been discovered this is the new form of communicating especially in virtual world by the use of internet. This describes as content available on-demand of internet and e-gadgets.
THE EVOLUTION OF TRADITIONAL MEDIA TO NEW MEDIA
For years, there has been chatter in the industry that traditional media is dying, but I am here to tell you that traditional media is still very much alive and well. There is no argument that traditional media is undergoing a huge transformation and has required a “digital tune-up,” which has been crucial to its survival.
When we refer to traditional media, we are talking about media channels such as television, radio, print, and out-of-home. Now I want you to think back about the last 24 hours. How many of you have watched a TV show, whether it was on the TV or your tablet? How many of you drove to work and listened to the radio? Oh, and while you were on your way to work, did you see a billboard? I am willing to bet that you were able to answer yes to at least one of those questions, if not all of them, and it is further proof that traditional advertising is not dead. Let’s take a look at the different channels and how they are evolving.
Television TV advertising has still proven to be a highly relevant channel. I suggest reading these two studies by Turner Broadcasting, which show that TV is the most powerful business driver for advertisers, and TV is a significant driver of social media engagement. In Nielsen’s recent Q1 2016 total audience report, television continues to have the highest reach out of all media when you combine live plus time-shifted TV. Yes, it’s true that traditional TV viewership has seen some declines over the years, and other forms of online video with highly targeted advertising opportunities seem very attractive to advertisers.
To stay relevant, the TV advertising industry is answering back by gradually shifting its focus from traditional mass targeting to specific data and audience-driven TV advertising, such as programmatic and addressable TV advertising. These methods are still in the beginning stages, and more and more cable providers and network television stations are adopting the technology. This is looking to be a huge emerging trend with the potential of significant growth for the TV industry. Experts are projecting that by 2019, programmatic TV will account for $10 billion of TV budgets compared to the $2.5 billion that was spent in 2015.
Another important evolution in the world of television is the penetration of subscription-video-on-demand (SVOD) programming (Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime), which is now reaching 50 percent of U.S. households, according to Nielsen. Viewers can watch what they want, when they want. TV networks are recognizing the appeal of SVOD and actively creating new distribution channels of their own such as branded apps and websites in order to distribute their programming to viewers.
Radio Behind television, radio has the second highest reach of all mediums. According to Nielsen, on average, radio reaches nine out of 10 millennial each week. Some marketers will argue that radio is the most effective way to get your message across due to the fact that radio listeners are more tuned in and have a higher ad recall. Local radio, also known as terrestrial radio, still remains strong and is the main source of advertising revenue for this channel. With that said, the radio industry has done a great job adapting to the digital shift of consumers by creating a strong online presence. Streaming radio services such as Pandora and Spottily have created new and exciting advertising opportunities that allow you to reach highly targeted consumers when you want and where you want.
Print Out of all the traditional media channels, the print medium has suffered the most, as the industry was slow to adapt to the digital shift of consumers. Many have turned to free news sites, which mean publications, have had to put more of a focus on relevant and reliable content in order to reach a larger audience and boost their search engine visibility. Some large news outlets have done a great job of this and have managed to drive large volumes of traffic to their site, generating ad revenue through online video and display ads.
Out-of-Home When you think of out-of-home advertising, the first thing that may pop into your mind is billboard advertising. Well, this is certainly one avenue of OOH advertising, but the truth is, there are limitless opportunities in the world of OOH advertising. From billboards to transit advertising and putting your message on the back of a bathroom stall, OOH advertising has allowed marketers to reach consumers pretty much anywhere.
One of the biggest breakthroughs in recent years was the development of digital billboards. Digital billboards have brought significant advantages to advertisers. Businesses are now able to tailor their messages more effectively by having the flexibility to easily swap messaging in and out with huge production and installation cost savings. In summary, traditional media is far from dead but rather is evolving to meet the needs of consumers. In this digital age, it is important to focus your marketing strategies around delivering the right message at the right time and in the most engaging way possible. Fortunately, with the way traditional media channels have been able to evolve and adapt to this digital era, they are able to provide the advertising opportunities to help fulfill these strategies.
Movies such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and Easy Rider (1969), reflected the youth driven culture, such as fashion, music and social values of the decade. Commercial radio during the 1960’s tailored to the youth, providing music that was upbeat, and popular in the charts.
In the 1970s, reporters took stronger roles in uncovering news. They revealed corruption in the government that lead all the way to the president. In another case, the Pentagon Papers started a legal battle between the powers of the government to protect its secrets and the press’ freedom to publish information for the public good.

The ’90s was a decade of enormous disruption, the axis on which the old world ended and a new one began. Often a vehicle for affectionate nostalgia, not just a decade that gave us Kurt Cobain and “The Simpsons:” Its political events were deeply transformative, and the thread that ran through them all was technology.
YouTube came out in 2005, creating an entirely new way for people to communicate and share with each other across great distances. By 2006, Facebook and Twitter both became available to users throughout the world. These sites remain some of the most popular social networks on the Internet
As of August 2009, Facebook was the most popular online social network for American adults 18 and older.

EVOLUTION OF MEDIA
Nowadays, our day wouldn’t be complete without using media, we use it 24/7. Everytime we drive in the city we can see billboards promoting latest product. We became so attached to it that we use it in our daily living(social media). For example, if you’re living in a city it’s a hard to find a taxi, it’s hassle especially when you need to be on time to work or events. So for safety and more convenient you’ll just install an application such as Grab, Micab etc. And if you want to order some food and deliver it at home it’s just one tap away!.
But when did all this stuff started? (Photo above)
What is Media?
Media refers to the tools of mass communication. Media today consists of television, Internet, cinema, newspapers, radio, magazines, direct mail, fax, and the telephone. Viewers can see some form of pictorial representation of messages through certain types of broadcasting and advertising. Images are visual representations, pictures, graphics, and include video, movies. Images are very useful in media to help get across messages effectively.
Media images are omnipresent in modern society. Because when we go almost anywhere example when we drive we can see billboards promoting latest product. When we are attracted to advertisements, we may begin to imagine or visualize using it. The media can give us information to tell us what a product, service or message is.
Throughout the years our media improved in so many ways.New media has transformed the way we receive and produce content. In the past, old style media was the only form of media used to share content and communicate unlike nowadays which is a lot more easier and faster. Our media is still improving and currently in a rapid development that we look forward to use for a better world.
The world of technology continues to change bring many changes. It can be quite confusing for students, especially when it comes to the news media. People hear news over the radio, television, and even their computers. Most technologies described as “new media” are digital, and often have characteristics of being networkable, dense, compressible, interactive and impartial. Examples are the internet, websites, computer multimedia, games, CD-ROMs and DVDs. Young people are attracted to the easy means of getting information with internet based terminals or hand phones which provide them information of their choice anytime, anywhere.
Both media platform serve the same target audience be it online, in print or broadcast. As mentioned, each form of media has an objective which is to disseminate a particular message and keep the masses informed. However, for those whom purposes resemble each other, they have same target audience to cater to and thus, garnering the same audience. They key success, if new media is to ever succeed traditional media, is advanced technology in internet. Although social networking through new media has increased crime rates, it is one of the shortcomings that can be eradicated. With technology, new media has definitely exceeded the abilities of traditional media as an advertising alternative and smoothened the process of gathering concrete information for news articles.
Old is gold. But that does not mean that new changes should be overlooked or even cast aside. It will be beneficial for RTM to tap ways to respond to the global financial crisis and changes in demand, so as to enhance its role in society.

Success can mean a variety of different things. To some people it could mean making money, to others it could mean keeping everyone happy, but to me, it means achieving the goals I have set for myself. I think in order to call something successful, both the result and the process should be great.
