I created my My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ask blog @askdaisydandfriemly originally to take place in alongside the events in the show. But as the show continued, I started to feel like some things were handled differently then what I would've liked.
I decided that rather than saying that everything is the same in Daisy's Equestria, that she would exist in a parallel dimension- similar, but different. Thus the Daedalverse was made!
Since Daisy lives on the Western side of Equestria, we rarely see what happens to the Mane Characters of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in my Ask Blog. So this is a good place to learn more about them if you're curious.
I'll post some of the Lore I've been thinking about here, and will reblog some of the relevant posts from askdaisydandfriemly- but if you're curious- feel free to ask about:
-World building Questions
-Relationships between Canon characters
-Species Headcanons
-How show events differed
-History behind my OCs
Also, keep in mind that I- Splunge-will be answering these questions, so you will likely get text responses- with Illustrations if I'm inspired. ^^;
Terra: Love triangle? So Megrim would squeeze itself in between taelo and Harmonia's hangouts or something?
Before Harmonia and Megrim the depths of their feelings for each other, they knew they were best friends. But Megrim couldn't help feeling ruffled when she had to share the Crown Princess. Some friends of Harmonia she didn't mind as much, but Taelo Ordin bothered her.
Taelo called Megrim a pest when Harmonia wasn't around, and his glances at the Princess all seemed either calculating or with smiles that wouldn't reach his eyes. Worst of all, he always tried to be alone with Harmonia and would seem put out when anyone else joined them.
Well, Megrim wouldn't let Taelo keep Harmonia for himself! She made sure to be extra annoying to show Harmonia how mean that Alicorn could be! And well, it didn't exactly work like Megrim wanted. Harmonia saw Taelo getting upset, and insisted beings that wanted to be her friend had to get along with her other friends.
Neither Taelo or Megrim could see themselves getting along, but the difference was Megrim was willing to try. But Taelo Ordin couldn't handle the disorder the draconequus brought, and refused. Harmonia was distraught to loose somepony she thought of as a friend, but Megrim being there for her only brought the two closer.
With her mother and grandparents doing their best to keep Equus from falling apart, Cherish stood alone. She ached as years past without Ludustella nearby, but in her heart of hearts, she knew her sibling was still out there. Time had made Cherish regret ever being embarrassed by Ludustella, and decided that she couldn't continue without letting her sibling know she cared. So she left went to search for the draconequus.
Cherish was never a fan of being tricked by the changelings in their mischievous days, so avoided them in the past. Knowing that they might be the only clue she had to finding her sibling, she decided to put her preconceptions aside and seek them out, in case Ludustella was hiding among them.
Unfortunately, the first ones she found had been twisted by Phoboira. Sensing her love energy the changelings attacked her, sucking all the love they could get with an endless hunger. Not having a violent bone in her body, Cherish couldn't bring herself to fight back, wondering if she deserved it.
When Cherish started to wonder if she's going to loose her physical form when other changelings arrived. Weak with hunger- but still whole- the changelings that refused Phoboira attacked their corrupted brethren. The idea that these creatures would still help her gave Cherish more power, and her affection -not forcibly taken- gave them the power to drive the corrupted Changelings off.
Sadly, these Changelings had also been searching for Ludustella, and could not tell Cherish where she was either. They offered to help Cherish search for their creator, but the alicorn knew if they came with her they would be a target for draconequi. Some had already been drawn into the war- she didn't want Ludustella's "children" in harm's way.
But Cherish could tell that these changelings were struggling without love energy. Since she had to travel if there was any hope of finding her sibling, she decided to imprint her own abilities unto them. She gave them the power to absorb ambient energy around them. The appreciation of water from a thirsty animal. The enjoyment of the sun during a windy day. Where there was nature, there was love that was projected into it.
These changelings- who became the royals of this tribe- could redistribute this energy into the other changelings as love energy. But most importantly, as long as they kept loving each other they wouldn't go hungry. In the meantime, she encouraged them to stay hidden. The world was dangerous, and she knew Ludustella would be sad if they didn't survive. While they might not be safe without Ludustella's protection, Cherish promised she wouldn't stop searching.
In their gratitude, the changelings gave Cherish a large crystal shaped like a heart they found in their caves. Legend says that heart stayed with the alicorn for most of her search.
The Garden of Infinity was created by Queen Natura. All matter of flowering flora filled the garden in what seemed like endless fields and forest, arranged to delight instead of overwhelm the eye. As the War raged on, Princess Harmonia and those who didn't wish to participate proposed that it would be a neutral ground, safe from sneak attacks and straight on destruction.
So of course, this became a favorite date spot for Ludustella. As a young draconequus just trying out to see what they liked in relationships, Ludustella found the most fun in partners that could help them add more chaos into the love lives of the mortal creatures. That fear that so many get over just confessing their feelings was specially fun for many teasing scenarios.
Still, Ludu wasn't having as much fun as he hoped when the tiger paw belonging to Phoboira took his orangutan hand.
"Do you know what would make this date perfect?" Phoboira murmered into Ludu's ear.
"Teenagers who are afraid to confess their feelings that we could mess with?" Ludu replied, hoping that his date wouldn't say what he knew he would.
"No- if you were female, like last time."
"I'm male today."
Ludu wondered if there was a newly made draconequus of arguments following them around. This wasn't the first time they'd fought over this.
"But you're so much prettier as a girl!" Phoboira proclaimed defensively.
"What, because I have eyelashes and my wing positions are reversed? Really not much of difference."
"It's just better overall when you're female."
"You told me you didn't mind me being genderfluid when we started going out," Ludu pointed out. "Did you lie?"
"No," Phoboira huffed. "I just thought eventually you'd settle on one."
"You thought I'd decide to be one gender? I love my male times, and I love my female times. I don't want to permanently be either one- although this attitude of yours is making my girl side feel gross."
"WHY CAN'T YOU JUST STAY A GIRL FOR ME? ISN'T SACRIFICE A PART OF LOVE?" Phoboira screamed.
"LUDUUU!" a sing-songy call interrupted the argument. Megrim, draconequus of whimsy, was currently the size of an elephant- carrying their wife, Princess Harmonia, and Ludu's sister Cherish along with a picnic basket and blanket. "Are you ready for our family picnic?"
The two alicorns fluttered off as Megrim shrunk down to the size of a leopard. As the alicorns began to lay out their picnic blanket, Megrim leaped into their son's arms for a hug that was joyfully accepted, Ludu spinning their mother around.
Phoboira grunted, which prompted Harmonia to settle her eyes on the draconequus.
"Phoboira, it's good to great you in peace," the princess said while she bowed her head politely. "Are you here to join us?"
"No, Momma. He was just about to leave- forever," Ludu spat.
"Ludu, try to be a little nicer to your friends-" Harmonia started to say, but Phoboira steamed at the alicorn's mere presence.
"You see, Ludustella? Alicorns are all control freaks. Fighting is only natural for chaotic beings like us!"
"Control freaks? My family, draconequus and alicorn both, love me for who I am- no matter what gender I am! You're the one who wants to control me!"
"These Alicorns must be using their love and friendship magic to manipulate you! It's clear that you won't see reason until they're gone!"
Before anyone could move, pure energy burst out the Phoboira's mouth and blasted at Harmonia. In the last second Megrim leaped in front of the blast, taking it head on. Harmonia was safe, but Megrim dissolved into nothing.
"Mommy!" Ludu and Cherish called out in despair, but the draconequus no longer existed to hear them. Harmonia sobbed at her loss, trying to hug her children, but could only get a hold of Cherish. Ludu was flying away.
Breaking the sanctity of the neutral grounds called down all the alicorns to punish Phoboira. Other draconequi came to his aid, and the war continued. While Harmonia pleaded that no more fighting continue here, in the end the garden became a desert.
When the battle settled, Harmonia and Cherish searched everywhere for Ludustella, but the draconequus could not be found. They could only conclude that Ludustella had gone to their own personal pocket dimension. While this fight finalized some decisions for Harmonia about the War going forward, they never stopped hoping they'd see Ludustella again.
When Ludustella disappeared, the Changelings had to face the fact that she was their biggest source of love-and thus their lives were at risk. While a few individuals had managed to integrate into pony society, most Changelings were disheartened to realize that their creator's actions had made them, at best, disliked by ponies in general.
But Phoboira, the draconequus of Hatred and Fear, had been watching. He was obsessed with Ludustella, and thought helping their creations would bring the Draconequus of Love out of hiding. Or at least, win their favor.
While some Changelings didn't trust Phoboira and left to look for Ludustella themselves, a large amount of them listened to him. He told the Changelings to continue tricking the ponies, only to force-ably take love from them. After all, how could ponies love something so different from themselves?
The more the Changelings took love that wasn't mutual, the more it twisted them, never fully filling themselves as their bodies had to take their love for themselves to feed them. Without love, the family units Changelings had in the past crumbled. Instead hives were created with Queens spawning "fully grown" changelings out of cocoons. They needed the numbers fast- draining Equus of love would surely finally satisfy their hunger, right?
While the Alicorns and Draconequui were trying to one-up each other creating beings, Ludustella made their own "children"- Love Bugs. That name -much to Ludustella's disappointment- never stuck, and they called themselves Changelings.
The changelings are born genderless, and eventually decide if they want a permanent gender, none, or to be fluid- like their creator. They lived on love much like plants breathe oxygen. And their creator fueled them with so much love, that for the most part they adored Ludustella, and would do whatever the Draconequus asked.
Ludustella loved pulling pranks where the changelings would pretend to be a part of a loving couple with their shape-shifting powers.
"You were kissing another creature!"
"I swear, I thought it was you!"
Changeling: "Surprise! I gotcha good!"
It got to be so bad that wedding vows were invented so that the couple could test their spouse to make sure they weren't a changeling in disguise. Eventually, the "tell me something only I would know" became the romantic declarations we know today, but it wouldn't be exaggerated that the changelings were found to be incredibly annoying by other species.
The changelings didn't exactly like being disliked, but sometimes they got genuine laughs, or started their own relationships outside of their species this way. Besides, they could always count on being loved by Ludustella, right?
It used to be that everywhere was like the Everfree Forest: plants grew on their own, animals took care of themselves, and weather happened without pony intervention. The draconequi loved the chaos of it, and would often think of events that could happen that would create delightful emotions in the mortals. Sudden downpours of rain, rabbits multiplying, reeds "whistling" as the wind blew through them, flowers overtaking a rundown dwelling, etc.
The abundance was refreshing for the alicorns as well, who liked to practice using their powers to shape the world. But stoked by the draconqui Yens' desire for more, the draconequi began to feel encouraged to do even bigger things- things that could endanger the mortals. The desire for order created the Alicorn of Order, Taelo Ordin.
Taelo worked out seasons, the patterns plants grow in, what landscapes worked best in each environment. The King and the Queen loved his ideas and made him their main advisor.
But the draconequi hated having restrictions put down. As the alicorns worked to implement this order on Equus, draconequi pushed back. But Taelo didn't want to stop his organization. If he impressed the King and Queen enough, perhaps he could marry Crown Princess Harmonia and eventually rule over all!
At the end of the War, the Everfree was the last land preserved that wouldn't be controlled- protected by the magic of Unity and Whimsy.
When Rose Moon's Great Grampa on her father's side (Planting Moon) brought his marefriend Chocolate Cosmos home to meet his parents, he hoped everything would go great. Twice before, Planting Moon's father Blue Moon had scared away potential special someponies due to his father's connection with ghosts.
At this point, Blue Moon was the last of his generation and was worried that the Guardian tradition would die with him- as neither of his kids seemed to believe that he could communicate with ghosts, never mind channel them. But Chocolate Cosmos desperately missed her father, and jumped at the idea of speaking to him.
Blue Moon continued on to help heal the heartbreak that happened in her family. When her musican father disappeared all those years ago, they thought he had abandoned them for music. But by bringing Guitar Song a voice, they found out that he had died on his way back to them.
Chocolate Cosmos and Planting Moon got married not long after, and had many children that were taught the importance of the Guardian tradition.
As the draconequus Yens inspired many to create more and more, the alicorns began to notice that they were running out of space on Equus. Making Equus bigger was a thought- but so many things relied on the earth staying as it was, that they couldn't do so without causing damage. So it was decided that all things must come to an end.
But many alicorns felt like they'd miss the mortals they grew fond of, so Mors Vanth was made to usher the souls of the dead into their new lives.
While many creatures feared seeing the alicorn, Mor Vanth would kindly remind them that this was just the beginning of a new life. Only the souls of creatures that couldn't accept that would linger.
Conceptualized by Queen Natura, Tempus, and Memoriae, the alicorn of Death and Rebirth doesn't bother chasing those who wallow in their unfinished business. Eventually, every creature starts over.
How do the economics of this AU work like the different currencies and such?
Well, first of all, trade is still considered a legal course of exchange. If someone wants to pay you in apple pies for doing their taxes for them, if you're cool with it, it's allowed. But sometimes some creature doesn't having something to trade that you might want. So Bits is most common in the Daedalverse.
I tried to see if there was any explanation as to how Bits work in the show's canon- because the Daedalverse doesn't alter little things too much. But without trying to spend too long searching, it seems like Bits in show canon are like points in Who's Line is it Anyway- made up and don't matter. So I made up a currency chart!
Much like the North American dollar, a Bit is a measure of currency AND the name of the lowest bill. So while an iron bit is the lowest form of currency, it's more commonly referred to as just a Bit.
To further explain the image above, a Bit is the lowest form of currency.
-A Copper Bit is worth three bits.
-A Silver bit is worth six bits, or two copper bits
-A Gold Bit is worth twelve bits, four copper bits or two silver bits.
All of the bits are made of the metal they're named for without any other mixed in. In the spirit of trade, it is legal to melt these coins down and use them for other purposes. But the bit minters printed pictures on them to make them desired for collectors:
All of the coins (no matter the metal) had the same printings on them during each of these eras. The front of all the coins say "Unity in Magic, Connected by Love".
The first generation bits are extremely rare as they'd be over a thousand years old and are worth much more than the price of the metal to collectors. Princess Celestia has one of each that she takes good care of in the Royal Treasury.
The second era Bits during Luna's banishment are the most common. While the Princess didn't want to erase her sisters presence on the coins, as generations passed ponies began to think of the sisters on the front of the coin as just referencing alicorns of old.
After Luna's return, Celestia immediately wanted to re-mint the coins from their first era, but the old stencil had long been lost. So instead they decided on a homage to the gems of the four pony tribes.
The last are the coins in current circulation, and were minted after Twilight Sparkle's coronation. They have the symbol of all the princesses favorite political party on the back- Harmonious Equestria!
Thanks for the ask, @drakowulf!
The ask box is empty if anyone has questions about this AU.
-All of the Mane six were around the 17-18 age range at the start of the Daedalverse timeline (based on the fact they were in High School and had prom in Equestria Girls).
-Most of them have finished their apprenticeships- if not investigating higher learning like Twilight. Pinkie Pie is the exception, as she's completing her fourth apprenticeship with the Cakes.
-Ponyville is a small Town, so Apple Jack, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie knew of each other before Twilight Sparkle moved in, but only really found shared interests and got close through helping Twilight.
-Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash grew apart as fillies after Fluttershy moved to Ponyville to study animals. Cloudsdale Pegasi sent Rainbow to be a weather pony in hopes she'd gain some humility. Helping Twilight reminded them of why they were friends as kids.
-Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Apple Jack, and Pinkie Pie were all knighted after rewakening the Elements of Harmony. They were known as The Guardians of Harmony, and the first Knight titles given in nearly a thousand years of peace.
-As they expressed desires to continue mundane lives, Princess Celestia merely reported that the Knighthood had been created to protect Equestria from more danger like Nightmare Moon- but did not reveal their names to the public. Which is how they stayed unknown for so long.
-When Twilight ascended to Princesshood, she was given control of the Guardians. She decided not to add any creature in without unanimous vote by all the Knights.
-From the events in the series they slowly grew to be pretty well known individually - until becoming household names when their shared journal was published as a book.
Have more questions about the mane six or anything else related to this post? Feel free to ask!
I asked about Cadence's daughter, may as well ask about her parents now too! XD Gimme some Crescendo and Queen Amore lore! Maybe about how they first fell in luuuuv or something? Would be rather fitting :'3
Yay- I love a good love story~! I hope I can write one well! XD
Princess Mi Amore Viola Aria is the youngest of four daughters of the Queen Mi Amore Arcobaleno Concerto of the Crystal Kingdom. But despite this, the crown is not promised to the eldest daughter. No, it is in fact picked by Princess Luna and Princess Celestia. The Queen was to be the one who best embodied the Alicorn of love, Cherish's, ideals. So among the royal lineage, any of them could be crowned Queen.
As a result, Princess "Aria" was not a stranger to suitors seeking to be her royal consort. She rejected many to the point she was rumored to get her cutie mark for being icy to ponies. In fact, even her guards had to be seriously vetted so they would not hit on the Princess.
The Princess truly wanted love- not to inherit the throne, but because she felt lonely. She wasn't close to any of her family, and while she had a friendly personality, Aria felt deeply sad that all seemed to only want her for power.
Which brings us around to Crescendo Celestine- a spirited pegasus guard with a talent for using a rapier. Much like a fencing duel, he is very straight forward with his words and actions- not to mention elegantly dramatic!
Crescendo was fiercely loyal to the royal family and challenged those who insulted them to duels. But when dueling his opponent, somehow the banter that the pegasus engaged in during the fight turned the whole thing into a lighthearted, fun affair. Because of that, it rarely caused sore feelings after so he rarely got in trouble.
That charisma put Crescendo high in the ranks of the royal guard- until he was eventually offered the position of Princess Aria's personal guard. They had hoped that his loyalty to the royal family would translate into never wanting to overstep his role as guard.
(Cut for length. Also, suicide attempt warning and some red flag behavior that doesn't belong outside of fiction!)
Crescendo had never met the princess, and had only seen her from afar. He had never loved before, but upon meeting her, the stallion his friends were pretty sure was Ace awoke deeply enamored by Princess Aria. He saw the sadness in her eyes- as he too felt lonely in the midst of a sea of friends.
He had been warned not to harbor secret feelings for the Princess, so decided not to be secretive about it. When Crescendo's vows to be her royal guard started, the whole court was shocked to hear lines from marriage vows mixed in with the guarding ones.
The guard captain wanted to take Crescendo away then and there, but Aria found herself stopping him. Despite the murmurs from the court, the Princess took him aside to the privacy of the nearest balcony. This was the most blatant confession she'd gotten, and was slightly amused by the foolishness.
Aria bemusedly asked if he had mixed up his lines. He only smiled at her, kissed her hoof, and said he wanted to court her with marriage in mind. She told him he couldn't expect her to give him any power. Any of her sisters was just as likely- even more so, to be queen. So he could stop with the act.
Crescendo told her he would be happy to run away with her right now, without a penny to their name if that meant he could be by her side. This was all a little overwhelming for Aria, who while was intimidated of his intensity, felt pleasure from it.
Despite wanting to linger, Aria knew that her mother wanted her to marry someone richer than a guard. It was better not to entertain fantasy further less he get hurt. The Princess told him that he'd better leave, and that she'd find a new guard. He told her that now that he met her, he wanted to be near her always. He'd sooner perish than be without her.
So in her desperation to avoid her less than rational emotions, she muttered softly, "then perish."
The stallion saluted to her seriously, wrapped his wings around the front of his torso, closed his eyes and let himself drop off the balcony, back facing the ground below. The Princess wouldn't believe at first that he wouldn't save himself. But when she came to the balcony and saw him about to hit the hard ground, she caught him last minute with her magic.
As she brought him back up, she was surprised to find him very riled up. Crescendo demanded to know how she expected him to prove himself now, and demanded to duel her for toying with her emotions.
She found herself saying, "Don't threaten me with a good time." She wasn't sure why she said that, but found herself really enjoying the smile he gave back to her. It was clearly a bad idea to give this stallion an inch. But despite it all, she found she wanted to see what he would do next. For all of their relationship she didn't regret it.
Author's note: So, for their story I had a basic idea of Princess falls for her Guard, but it didn't really flow as a story until I found my character inspiration for Crescendo: Gomez Addams from the Addams Family. Now, it's implied that Gomez met his wife Morticia the day she died- kinda a hard story to translate to ponies, if I want them to not be undead, that is! XD
For me, Gomez and Morticia have that rare instant connection that would be very red flag territory if not mutually felt (and not even then sometimes). Aria here is different from Morticia in only that her royal upbringing means politically, she has to be careful about what she says.
I like to think that Crescendo brings unconditional love to her life, so they grow to be passionate like Gomez and Morticia. But Crescendo is very cray cray in this story and would have probably been imprisoned for a long time if Aria didn't actually like him.
(end note)
Wait, how did Princess Amore have Cadence if she lived 1000 years from the MLP present?
Other related asks I'd love to get:
Where did the Crystal Heart come from?
Why doesn't Aria get along with her family?
How come the royal sisters get to pick the Crystal Kingdom's Queen?
It was unknown whether the Draconequus Yens gave Magic the desire to help Spark create things, or the desire to help Spark birthed Yens into existence. But the Draconequus of wanting, Yens was the first who came into being.
This Draconequus was never satisfied. The more things existed, the more Yens wanted those things too. Yens wanted to create like Spark, so they made more like themself. Yens wanted to be all the genders, to know everything, to appear like all the creatures.
Alas, Yens also wanted everyone to like them. So when they manifested into an eldritch abomination consisting of every creature in creation and were feared, they decided they preferred being just a spirit without a physical body.
Yens isn't evil, per say- it's not evil to want things. In fact, most of the non-immortal beings existed purely to live before Yens presence gave them the motivation to want more.
But the longer Yens spent around a being, the more gluttonous that being became. So when the alicorns noticed this effect, they tried not to let the being stay around any being for a long period of time.
Do the alicorns have their own homeland? or did the exist in Equestria and if so are there any traces or ruins of their existence?
Alicorns were very used to just being spirits at first, which let them go where ever they want whenever they wanted. As their existence changed the effects of the world around them, they were very curious to observe this in action.
After they took on physical form, they couldn't move as easily. But still wanting to interact with all the ponies on Equus, they instead roamed the globe, fine tuning it so it would remain as perfect as they envisioned.
The ponies, of course, wanted the Alicorns to stay near them, so would try to create grand palaces and gifts to tempt them to linger. But the Alicorns never stayed in any place for long, as there was a whole world to visit! Who needed things when you could create life?
May've read through some of this blog's posts again and remember you mentioning or implying? in one of them that Flurry Heart does exist here, but wasn't born an Alicorn for obvious reasons so I'm kinda curious now if she's a Unicorn or something (Guessing Unicorn? But hey, surprise me!)
Nope, you're absolutely correct- Flurry Heart- aka Princess Mi Amore Fantasia Heart is a unicorn. She only has 1/4th pegasi DNA from her mom's side so they knew it would be unlikely that she'd be born a pegasus.
So what happened in the Crystalling , you might wonder? Well, all the family and royal sisters were greeting Flurry, when her Aunt Twilight Sparkle- running very late- teleported in. The baby unicorn absorbed and somehow managed to duplicate the advanced level spell the second she was out of her magic-constricting romper!
Flurry was teleporting all over the palace with no rhyme or reason to where she was going, terrifying her family who kept on worrying she'd end up inside an oven or a wall with no way to breathe. When she poofed on top of the Crystal Heart and stayed still it was almost a relief- until it toppled over and broke.
The loud noise made the baby cry, thankfully distracting her from teleporting long enough to put the magic constricting romper back on. But the events of the story continued very similarly from then on.
Flurry Heart never ascends to Alicornhood, but she does eventually inherits her mother's throne as Crown Princess. She is very talented in magic and love divination- the later being something her "Aunt" Ludustella teaches her.
Did the Windigos affect any of the surrounding kingdoms back during the founding of Equestria?
When the Draconquus of Hate felt himself losing his physical form, he knew he only had one chance to strike back. He stole the Sky energy that had been used against him by King Taevas, mixing it to create a curse against the beings the alicorns seemed to care for the most: the ponies.
The Windigos- named due the frosty winds that moved with them- do not have sentience of their own. If the hatred between ponies expands to a majority of the population, the coldness between them physically manifests to form the ghostly apparitions.
As long as a pony has hatred for other ponies in their heart, it is possible that it could spread among the population enough to manifest again. That was enough to make kingdoms eject their pony citizens, as no creature wanted eternal winter to keep crops from growing.
Thus, the pony tribes began their search for a new home...
