I've only just finished watching the Notebook for the first time. And oh my, I couldn't stop howling in tears. The scene where Old Noah finishes reading to Old Allie, and she finally realizes that it's their love story and comes back to him, only to relapse shortly back to dementia, was emotional. The look of frustration on Old Noah's face as he sees his sweetheart in pain when the staff inject medicine to calm her.
Their love could create miracles, endure her parents, war, engagement to another man, and take them through 60 more years together and through illness, is beautiful and unconditional. The ending shot of the flying birds depicted an idealistic romantic fantasy, transforming their dual deaths in the nursing home into a heaven on earth.
For more than half a year, I have been feeling progressive house was getting overdone, all-the-same and altogether becoming the new cookie-cutter. I was confirmed when Demi Lovato's "Neon Lights" forced edm attempt surfaced.
But then I came across to Zedd since "Spectrum" last year in 2012, and then again at the rare occasion in Carnegies Wanchai last week. "Clarity" starts off great with Foxes' soulful vocals and beautifully clear electro melody, but the chorale arrangement gets overly crazy electronic at 3:00 onwards which ruins any sort of clarity.
Last weekend, I took a short trip to Guangzhou in China. I was completely enticed by the romantic colonial architecture and camphora trees on Shamian Island. Cycling through the trees in Zeng Cheng was also a highlight of the trip. Just wanted to share some shots taken from my Ipad mini. I'm still impressed at how well the photos turned out!
wear something colorful and comfy and then sway.
I really want check out some Go-go bars in Thailand, but I guess Wanchai will be okay. Although I don't think Ill be shunned at the door for being a female customer, I doubt I'd be given the real deal. Wanna see how these farang are getting blind-sighted and/or fueling exploitative sex tourism.
This has been my morning "put-on-makeup-get-ready" track as of lately. Nothing spectacular, but somewhat intriguing like Ellie's own unique facial features. I don't know how I feel about long face with dull brown eyes on light blonde hair, and that nose! odd, but also lovely. She reminds me of a deer.
can you find all seven deers?
LA based electronic music producer Kill Paris brings the love back again with his soulful future funk! For some reason, the male vocal particular at the beginning really reminds me of early 2000s pop ballads, mixed with signature Kill Paris glitch-hop melodies of today.
"Falling In Love Again" will be part of Kill Paris' fall EP later this 2013 year!
It was this amazing melodic NuJazz track by Kondor which got me into Japanese downtempo music. Before I always associated modern Japanese music to be some annoyingly hyper JPop with high-pitched "kawaii" Anime voice, blasting in Asian teenage fashion stores and photo sticker machines.
I just simply love how Japanese artists like Kondor, Nujabes, DJ Okawari are able to seamlessly mesh jazz, perhaps with some funk into electronic music, giving an edgy relaxing beat. I find Japanese NuJazz melodies to be more crisp and "beautiful", whilst Western artists like Jazzanova produce a much smoother sound resembling a sultry lounge.
I completely loved DyE's Fantasy also from the Taki 183 album when I discovered its disturbingly fantastic music video a year ago. (beware it does contain visual sexual imagery, borderline NSFW) Sometimes I feel its always the French musicians who are able to pull off animated music videos. This video is just so raw in human emotion in depicting how young adults and teens feel self-conscious, anxious amidst curiosity and exploration.
Nujabes and hip-hop artist Shing02 were collaborating on the Luv Sic series. Part 6 of Luv sic was never released officially by Nujabes, but was only found on his cellphone a few weeks after his deadly traffic accident.
beautiful music as always...
R.I.P Nujabes (1974-2010)
Last monday was the beginning of my skateboardinadventures and i’m surprised by how smooth a board can go. But then I did have misconceived notions as the only other board I had previously come in contact with was this cheap one from Toy"R"Us.
Call me a hipster poser for getting the Penny as my first board haha, but its pretty colors truly entices me. On the other hand, Hoyen should’ve gotten a wooden one for a more “manly" feel instead of the Nickel. I only intend to cruise which is what the Penny is made for, though I have my doubts about going downhill on such a tiny sized board. I was just skating down my neighborhood street at 20 degree downward slope, IT WAS SOO FAST that the BOARD SHOOK LIKE CRAZY. I quickly jumped off before it turned into a bad situation.
Here's a missing soft toy notice for Burnaby. Hoyen has plans to contact the Australian Consulate.
Funny enough, this disco house track by Sunskape has been in the "drafts" pile for nearly a year! But a great pool party track will always remain a great pool party track. However as I finish off my Modernity essay, I guess the only protection I need is from the computer rays.
I can't believe I let my sister walk away with our pair of Ray Ban Clubmasters!!
Sometimes you see someone and you think, "she really looks like the Asian (insert white person)". It makes you wonder what you would look like if you belonged to another ethnic group.
Well wonder no more, Face of the Future has answers. Here, I've compiled my results: (from left to right, next row)
1. Original/Young Adult/East Asian
2. Afro-Caribbean
3. West Asian
4. Caucasian
5. Older Adult
6. Masculine
What can I say, I look great in all ethnic groups, age and gender. My boyfriend, whose also East Asian Chinese resembled more like a hobbit as a Caucasian. =P
Some classy synth-heavy funk
I'm sure everybody knows by now about Daft Punk's latest album release: Random Access Memories (2013). My mom has been holding onto my headphones until my exams are over, which will be tomorrow. Can't wait to listen to the whole album properly eyes shut on my bed.
I feel that Random Access Memories sounds quite different from Daft Punk's previous albums, in which the duo have given their digital instrumentation a 70s disco vibe. Perhaps this album may not be as exciting on the dance floor as was Discovery (2001), but RAM sure does set off a great mood for dancing in the flirty summer weather.
Guy-Manuel and Thomas could care less about what the critics say...
Now entering Reading Week. O how fast this Year 4 semester 2 has already come half way, it is quite unimaginable how fast time has flown. I still feel as if it was only last week I had received notice of my set-back. Preparing for that is what I think to be like as preparing for trial - tiring, stressful and unpredictable, the worst part is having to "lead a normal lifestyle" whilst enduring every stage of preparation stretched over 2 months / half a semester. I am so drawn out.... too damn tired. I get home past dinner almost every night, but zero thoughts given in supplying my parents with a reason.
I now proceed to paste some lovely photos are my recent 21st birthday celebration..
