Hi!!!! I wanted to yap about some things today since I wanted to tell ya’ll about one thing and then remembered another.

1: I’ve been playing a TON of Jedi Survivor recently, this isn’t my first time playing it or Jedi Fallen Order, I’m actually on my third playthrough! This game is definitely on of my top favorites in the Star Wars franchise and it always gives me a bi panic now with Dagan, Bode (As much as I hate him even though he looks fine), Merrin and Cal. I played Story Mode, Jedi Knight and am currently on the Jedi Master difficulty! (Surprisingly it’s not as hard as I thought it’d be, I haven’t died once to any of the major story bosses!)

2: WHY HASN’T ANYONE POSTED MORE PICTURES OF DAGAN GERA IN BLACK ROBES THIS IS LIKE THE HOTTEST THING I’VE SEEN 😭 I lowkey just need more screenshots of him in general because there’s barely enough on Pinterest to satiate me. So, PLEASE if you have any, modded or unmodded I would love to see them!! Here are a few I have captured myself!

2: I applied for a part time IRL job at Hot Topic a few days ago (The 28th), if they hire me this’ll be my first job EVER! I would appreciate anyone who has worked there or at a retail store to tell me what it’s like, and friendly reminder that idrc how much I’m getting paid since I live with my parents, even something simple as $10 would satisfy me and Hot Topic has been my favorite place since forever even though I haven’t bought a ton of things from there I see a lot of cool things being advertised to me!!

So I was trying to get my hands on anything Star Wars related and I found a book called “Star Wars: The High Republic - The Lightsaber Collection”, which is pretty cool! And lo and behold, I found Dagan Gera and Santari Khri’s profiles and their lightsabers, which I thought was pretty rad!

I can place Dagan in Pyloon's with the mod, but since Santari doesn't have an idle NPC spawn in-game (just the cutscenes and Tanalorr vision) I'd need to play through that flashback and give her a hat there.

observations from replaying jedi survivor (part 5 [i think] of ???)

(this is exclusively about the main dagan gera boss fight)

the first time i played this, i assumed we were more or less at the end of the game so i was looking at the fight through that lens. now i'm able to evaluate it as something much different.

there's just so much going on here with the dual timelines. dagan's story is one element and cal's is the other, and the way they intersect is so tragic and explosive.

i love that dagan can sense all the pain, loss, and shame cal has been grappling with since order 66 which has only gotten worse over time. it's similar to the ninth sister pointing it out at the start of the game. and yes, that's just a typical dark sider observation, but it feels so important because cal is already overburdened by these emotions, and everything on jedha hasn't even happened yet.

i think there's something to be said about these games really showcasing how order 66 did more than just kill the jedi — it left the ones who survived emotionally vulnerable to the dark side. cere, malicos, bode, cal... and that's only counting the characters who succumbed on their own without torture (i'm counting cere in this camp because it's not the torture that did it for her, but seeing trilla).

i have sooooooooooo many thoughts and feelings on how cal defeated dagan. i need to know more about how he channeled santari's image/how he tapped into dagan's mind for the illusion. we can see cal really concentrating on it, and it makes me wonder what he felt from the force as he did it. i highly suspect his psychometry played a role. it did in that some of santari's words are lines cal heard from his visions of her, but i suspect his ability to do this at all is connected to the ability.

if there's one thing i'd like to see more of from cal in jedi 3, it's an expansion of his force abilities. i feel like he's becoming an incredible duelist but he's not had a chance to do weird shit like this, and it's so unfair to him since his main natural talent has nothing to with combat. (i know it's a video game so it's tough.... but i know they can think of a way to make it work.)

the other thing about this scene is that cal channels a version of santari that never existed at all to break dagan's spirit, and i'm feeling some kind of way about it. it would be one thing if santari truly condemned dagan and cal was just reminding him of that, but santari went out of her way to save him despite knowing he'd killed other jedi. the real santari loved dagan — romantically or otherwise — and was willing to forgive him of anything. she gave him tanalorr. we spend all this time trying to keep him from getting there, but santari wanted him to go there. dagan! killed! jedi! and santari said: so? i want this man to live and be safe in this haven we made together.

and cal said fuck that: i am going to psychologically break this man in your image.

i'm not saying cal is wrong for this. beyond everything else, this fight in particular left him with no choice but to try anything to stay alive. i just find it so tragically ironic that dagan's greatest fear was santari condemning him and he has no idea that she never did.

the final irony of it all is that cal and dagan aren't so different; it's purely dagan's twisted malice that keeps them from being allies. dagan's desire to build a jedi temple and teach is a perfect match for cal's desires. cal's visceral longing to be around other jedi is also something dagan can just give him by existing. all dagan had to do was not fucking snap and decide cal needs to die because hey, even with dagan's past crimes, i'm pretty sure cal would have forgiven him because that's just what cal is like. especially with dagan instantly hating the empire with this kind of "only i'm allowed to destroy the jedi order" pettiness (lol). in a great kind of ironic contrast to malicos, i think dagan actually had the potential to meet cal halfway and drag him a little into the darkness if he'd preyed on cal's hatred of the empire. but dagan pushed him away and made an enemy out of him instead.

anyway here's to the next game and my hope that one of these days cal is going to get lucky and actually redeem one of his little dark jedi buddies.
