The Perks of Being a Wallflower
(Dir. Stephen Chbosky)
I’ve probably earned the right to screw up a few times. I don’t want the fear of failure to stop me from doing what I really care about.
I am willing to be seen. I am willing to speak up. I am willing to keep going. I am willing to listen to what others have to say. I am willing to go forward even when I feel alone. I am willing to go to bed each night at peace with myself. I am willing to be my biggest, bestest, most powerful self. These seven statements scare the absolute shit out of me.
With airbrushing and digital manipulation, fashion can project an unobtainable image that’s dangerously unhealthy. I’m excited about the aging process. I’m more interested in women who aren’t perfect. They’re more compelling.
This is mad. Who’d wanna be taught by me? I’m a nutter, remember?
Emma Watson has worked tirelessly in her role as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, despite what some tabloids might say, and this weekend posted a “small film” she narrated and helped make about the hurdles women have overcome and still have yet to leap. Okay, it’s not exactly high art, but it’s a useful little video nonetheless, set to Sia’s anthemic ‘Chandelier’ and illustrating the challenges using footage from the women’s Olympics hurdles final at the 1964 Tokyo games.
OK the video is awesome and such a good ressource for middle school pupils.
