explanation of “mask trio” under the cut yay

all of them have something to do with masks, whether it’s metaphorical or literal. for dream, i feel like his association with masks is already very obvious and well understood so i don’t really need to go into that. for punz, their “mask” is much more metaphorical, with the fact that theyre constantly hiding their true intentions and parts of themself from other people (especially when it comes to hiding their relationship with dream). purpleds “mask” is also more metaphorical, and hes masking… a lot of things! you could interpret most of his words and actions as hiding his true feelings and intentions if we’re being honest. hiding from quackity that he hates him, hiding behind confidence and standoffishness, etc. they all have something sort of mask that they wear, whether its physical or metaphorical, and its incredibly important to their characters and all their interactions with each other (especially since they let their guards down more around each other than most other people).
