Happy Holidays!!
dom and i haven't posted in forever, but i had to share this photo by christopher wong. i love it so much, it's my fav of our cosplay so far!
Llewellyn prepares for dragon*con
Lily is a bit noisier than the other peegs...this is actually pretty quiet for her >_<
OH! hello there.
so, we do believe (but will have the vet check due to my track record) we have 3 little girls: Pepper Ann, Lily Luna, and Clementine!
this one is mostly in focus!
Whatever happened to your ferret?
He's still around knocking anything and everything over! It's just impossible to get an in focus shot of him as he never slows down!
They're getting so big so quickly!
Whose got three new minipigs?? I DO BELIEVE IT'S US!
any day now, little (huge) Hermoine will be a mommy.
Rest in peace, Phinny. <3
PIGLETS!!
so...when dom and i adopted little herbie, we were told it was a boy. at the time it was being called ernie, actually. and when we did our best google research, we concluded that the parts for young guinea pigs look very similar when they are little and assumed the people we adopted herbie from knew better than we ever could. and when we introduced herbie to llewellyn, they interacted just as boys would - they were very territorial around one another and had a few minor spats.
then, about two weeks ago, i had a horrible dream that we got it all wrong and herbie was really a girl. ever since then i became suspicious and kept trying to get a peek at herbie's bits. and when i finally got one i wasn't convinced - herbie has been with us for about 2 months now, those parts should be developing. and then i noticed sudden weight gain. and last night....movement. in herbie's sides. so...
herbie is now hermoine! and we are expecting piglets any day now - apparently once you can tell a peeg is pregnant, it's about time (their gestation is only about 60 days). i took her to the vet today and an ultrasound confirmed we have about 3-4 piglets on the way, and hermoine should be a mommy by the end of the weekend. it's crazy, but i already have several interested future peeg owners, and we may just keep one or two for ourselves. and we most definitely have separate cages!!
***i am aware that baby guinea pigs are called pups, but using the term piglets is too fun to resist***
Hey I think he likes it!
Are rats difficult to "hand train"? Like getting them used to being handled? I've had Hamsters before and they were a bit difficult. Very stubborn.
before i adopted phin, i was the proud owner of 3 robo dwarves - two of which never liked to be handled - so i was almost shocked how friendly phineas was from the get go. he loved to be held and jump up on people's shoulders (and sometimes heads). all rats have different personalities of course, but from my experience, they are much more human-friendly than hamsters. phin prefers to be in my company (he is on my shoulder right now) rather than burrowed in his cage. i still have a love for hammies, but as far as a pet you can snuggle up with, i would definitely recommend a male rat.
my rats love peanut butter, but i always water it down a bit. that makes them think they're getting more, anyway. :)glad to see that phin is okay. he is seriously cute.
as we said earlier, phin had been fine with peanut butter in the past. it was a very small amount and it wasn't anything he hadn't had before. i gave it to him because with his pneumonia, he has been losing a bit of weight and i wanted to treat him with some fattier foods. however, it proved to be different that time, and we definitely learned our lesson. thank you so much for your advice, i hope other readers will adhere to it when giving their ratties peanut butter - i think for us, we are choosing just to skip the peanut butter, and all foods with a similar texture, all together.
