Anyway... It took me around 1 week to finish this animation. Idk how to animate, so I just figured it out as I went... and if that wasn't enough, I decided to do a FULL cycle for André instead of a half one, because I'm a stupid masochist!!!!
Chapter 30/58

Oscar and André are a little behind on the news out of France, so it ended up getting kind of info-dumped in, here.
The aristocrats that were arrested under Lafayette's orders is referring to the Day of Daggers, on 28 February 1791. The very basic background of this event is:
Municipality voted to restore the dungeons of the Château de Vincennes to house more prisoners.
A rumor started staying there was a secret underground passage between the Tuileries and the Château.
People suspected the restoration was a conspiracy to allow King Louis XVI to flee France in secret.
Workmen went to demolish the prison with the goal of preventing Louis from escaping.
Lafayette led a contingent of the National Guard to Vincenes to quell the riot there, but with so much of the Guard away from the Tuileries, many nobles were worried about the safety of King Louis XVI.
Nobles flocked by the hundreds to the Tuileries armed with concealed weapons like daggers to defend the king, but remaining officers thought this was a counter-revolution, and Lafayette returned to disarm them.
Louis XVI asked them to lay down their weapons, promising they would be returned the next day. But the weapons were confiscated and sold by the soldiers.
Long-term, this caused a lot of upset and confusion. The nobles were there to defend the king, but because they were arrested and their weapons confiscated, it put fuel on the fire of the assumption that they actually planned to take the king away as a counter-revolution measure.
Really unfortunate turn of events.

Mirabeau was kind of a piece of shit, and I would say his portrayal early in the manga is generous. He was pretty well-known to suck as a person.
He ended up rather trusted, and even revered through the start of the French Revolution, and died on 2 April 1791 in Paris from pericarditis (inflammation of the fibrous sac that surrounds the heart). Apparently his death hit a lot of people very hard, especially the Jacobin Club.
He was later branded a traitor to the Revolution (after his secret dealings with the king were uncovered), but historians sometimes argue that he was not the traitor he was accused posthumously of being, as he did not compromise on his political beliefs and mainly tried to keep building a bridge between the revolutionaries and the monarchy.

Hi, this is my old art of The Rose of Versailles, and I made it when I finished the classic anime. I don't know, I fell in love with this anime since I watched the opening of the series...And I actually did a reference of that, hehe.
P.S. I still can't get over the ending, even though it's been a while since it finished.
Bernard: Summer is in full swing. I hope everyone is doing well? I am Bernard. Nice to meet you.
Andre: Hey now, Bernard, why are you here? I am in charge of this segment.
Bernard: Now, don't get upset. From today onward, I will be taking over.
Andre: Why, am I no good?
Bernard: I'll explain why later, okay? Anyway, lets get started.
Andre: *annoyed grumbling*
Bernard: I hear historical dramas like The Rose of Versailles can be a real challenge when it comes to historical accuracy.
Andre: Yes, the staff is having a hard time, they have been groaning about being short on time and the lack of reference materials.
Bernard: For example, its an old matter, but there was a scene where Rosalie's mother was ironing.
Andre: Did they even have irons back then? If they did, I wonder what shape they would have been?
Bernard: Right. It is those sort of details that they don't know.
Andre: So what do they do in situations like that?
Bernard: It seems they just make things up. So the maybe the staff behind The Rose of Versailles are a huge bunch of liars.
Andre: That is no good. But I hear that sometimes they tell lies on purpose?
Bernard: That is right. For example the Jeu de Paume is actually an indoor arena, but in the show Tennis Court Oath is shown outdoors. And even though the tricolor (the French flag) hadn’t been created yet, members of the public were waving it.
Andre: So it is for dramatic effect. By the way, I heard you are going to be reporting for this segment next time?
Bernard: Well, that’s because you get shot in episode 38.
Andre: What!!
Bernard: Now, now. In episode 37 you get to embrace Oscar naked. Stay strong.
Andre: Oh come on, that's no fair.
Bernard: Well, next time, I, a journalist, will bring you a brilliant report.
ZAAAYUM 😝😝😝 I love him so much… gulp… *turns around and runs away like a cute anime girl*
Also, it kind of cracks me up because why would Ikeda put this magnificent drawing of Andre for us to feast our eyes upon in one of the most stressful scenes of the manga? Ig it’s like… a checkpoint… just to brace ourselves for what’s going to happen next.

I’ve been trying for some weeks to think of what to post for notes for the last two chapters. Honestly, I don’t think these chapters need notes; they speak well enough for themselves.
So I’ll keep this short.
Thank you for reading. I know it wasn’t easy to get through, because it was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever written in my 25+ years of writing.
Even though this tragedy, and the story itself, is fictional, the experience of Oscar and André’s loss is something that happens every day to people who are very real. Miscarriage isn’t this distant thing that happens to Other People; it is more common and prevalent than you might realize.
And there is always a need for stories of the human experience in this world.
Please continue with me on Oscar and André’s journey toward healing. I promise it will be worth it.
And save some grace for Oscar; she really is doing her best.

also to be clear, i don't hate the anime. i just hate people talking off the cuff about why it's better than the manga and then they list things that are factually incorrect.
the anime got me into rov back in the day so i have no real issues with it (and in fact there are many things to like) but it feels like people regularly ascribe things to it that it doesn't deserve—for both good and ill.
