Got bored, decided to make something depressing.

i feel like someone has made this post before but i just wanted to appreciate steph&duke being the “people’s princesses” of all the bats. Like steph is the first (main continuity) girl robin and i’m sure so many little girls look up to her for that. She’s the daughter of an abusive criminal, she’s an (almost) success story of someone (almost) getting out of that cycle, even though she died i think she’d still be a big inspiration to kids like her. And she’s so good at comforting victims, people love her, and when she died? I know for a fact that Stephanie Brown’s grave was covered in robin/spoiler-colored flowers, trinkets, and memorabilia from everyone in Gotham. Even as Batgirl, she had like 5 little kids waiting at her hospital door with merch and well-wishes. The people’s robin!

And community is SUCH an important part of Duke’s character. He’s a mama’s (and papa’s) boy through-and-through, his main priority is and always has been his family, and i’d love to see that extended to his neighbors and classmates and everyone! Being part of We Are Robin (albeit not really voluntarily at first), he understands the impact of a tight-knit community with support. He’s for sure gonna use his resources to help improve disaster-centers and mental hospitals after the joker-serum fiasco. He’s the only daytime bat for a reason— he wants to be approachable! My ideal Duke is one that zips around on his bike (mostly not on rooftops), helps elderly people carry groceries and cross the street, pops in poetry readings and library events to compliment people’s work. He drops off a riddle once per week at a daycare in the Narrows and the kids love figuring it out. Signal is almost beating Batman in the amount-of-merch category. He’s a beacon of hope reshaping Gotham into a better place every day :)

This Karmelo Anthony situation really reminds me that white Americans really think self defense is only for them. These white male school shooters and crowd shooters will literally aim at defenseless people and get it called "responding to bullying" (i.e. being socially isolated for being a white supremacist at 14) and "self defense" (despite showing up to a protest against racism to threaten and commit murder).

But a Black kid stabs a racist white one for threatening and attacking him at school, and suddenly it's "why does he have weapons at school" (which is apparently legal to an extent in Texas) oh NOW we wanna act like people should turn the other cheek to bullying. White kid's brother threatening to "shoot monkeys" at the school, but we supposed to believe this is unprecedented behavior. Mkay. Crazy work.

Like I've never been a proponent of guns period, but this is why I'm not mad when the response to racists acquiring guns is us acquiring guns. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Be damned if I sit there as a waiting duck just so I can be dead with "the higher moral ground".

i agree so much about making your blorbos pathetic but i do fear that many take this to mean 'make them more traditionally feminine/submissive' which genuinely hurts my soul. make your blorbos pathetic in interesting character-oriented ways. understand their neuroses and turn the dials up to eleven. juxtapose the parts of life they handle extremely well with the parts of their lives that make them eat shit. make them angry. make them cold. make them pave their own way to hell while building walls preventing them from seeing any other way. please i'm begging you no more pathetic as an euphemism for bottoming im gonna mclose it.
