Squad Four seems like the most unhinged of the 13 court guard squads and they deserve more insane head canons so here are mine:

They use each other as practice for medical techniques. There isn't a single one of them that doesn't have some sort of scarring.

They have to conserve their energy since someone or the other always needs them more, so they've taken to using human methods for things like dislocated bones, etc.

In that vein, one time after getting tired of being mocked for being too weak/squeamish/etc., a squad member reset his dislocated bones himself with zero medication or soul pressure all while maintaining eye contact with squad 11. People became a lot more discreet about their insults after that.

During the immediate aftermath of Aizen's betrayal, when the medical barracks were overrun, Hanataro noticed Ganju looking harried and went "Oh, I know a good spot to think!" and then led him to a cold storage room full of cadavers that Squad Four uses for extreme experimentation. Ganju was freaking out while Hanataro was just like "this is where we all come to get away :) it's so nice and peaceful :)"

Squad Four has more discipline than any other squad because they spend basically all day and night obeying the chain of command. Just one word out of someone higher ranked in the squad has all of them immediately in line and ready for the worst.

Someone tries to mock them for doing the chores and they just blandly respond that it isn't very smart to insult the people who can easily poison your food and happen to be the only ones with access to the antidotes

They tend to get overwhelmed by spiritual pressure easier so they've designed pills to temper the effects so they can do field medicine. They treat them essentially as headache pills. Taking one of them if you're literally anyone else is basically like snorting a line.

Sometimes they just have things lying around that they're not sure what to do with, and due to their hectic schedules they forget about. One time some other squads broke into their barracks to pull a practical joke on them and opened a random door and found rows upon rows of teeth, both human and soul reapers', in jars. They backed away slowly and never spoke of it again.

They claim there's a sewer monster. They all say it with completely straight faces. They also say it's a good friend of theirs. The other squad captains keep looking at Unohana like "are...are your squad members good??" and she just shrugs.

Squad Four is surrounded by maniacs who live to fight. They don't just match that freak. They exceed it.

How does Cass's whole "reading body language" thing work? Can it really be circumvented as easily as doing something non-optimal in a fight?

so cass's first language IS body language and she understands it as its own language.

because of the way her brain is wired from never learning spoken language, when a meta messes with her brain in batgirl #4 she literally loses the ability to read body language when he gives her the ability to understand speech. (and then she has to train with shiva to relearn it)

i think the best way to explain it, is to cass, harley is speaking gibberish. but with body. it sounds like real speech and is spoken like real speech, but shes not really saying anything. she also seemingly has the same problem with the joker in dc 1st: batgirl/joker, hes hard for her to read because hes so erratic.

i had also COMPLETELY forgot about this moment between bruce and dinah lol. so bruce explicitly says the jokers body language would be gibberish to cass, and harley seems to be similar in that regard.

Future State is so fun to read because it gives a new dimension to each of the Batkids instead of making them all one indistinguishable blob. Duke is raising an offshoot of the resistance, training and protecting new metas and recruits, because Gotham is his home- Batman or no Batman. On the other hand, Dick is stuck holding down the fort, reliving his worst nightmares but refusing to put the cowl on, because he can't accept that Batman is gone. Jason and Stephanie, perennial black sheeps of the family that they are, both have to pretend to be things they aren't, do things they normally wouldn't do, for the sake of someone who they deep down don't trust would do the same for them. We need more storylines where the Bats are out of their depths, where they'd do anything for their family and their city, even if it means destroying themselves and possibly the very things they're trying to protect.

I really want to rewrite the issues with Talia in the Supersons.

Like imagine it’s starts almost the same way but Talia and Damian are just sparring which they do everytime they meet but Jon doesn’t know that and tries to fight Talia. And Damian breaks off like “are you crazy??” And Jon’s like “ARE YOU?? WHY ARE YOU FIGHTING???”

And Talia is like “Oh, is this Jon? I’ve heard so much about you! I’m Damian’s mother.”

Damian tries to rally Talia against Bruce like “Mother!! Father is sending me to MIDDLE school! Surely you agree that I’m far above such childish things.”

Talia is like “actually, he asked me before he brought it up with you. I think it’s a good idea, you need to socialize with children your age.” Damian gets upset and Talia gives a hug tells him that everything Bruce and her do, is because they believe it’s best for him.

Damian gets all embarrassed in front of Jon and squirms away.

As for why she’s there, it’s mostly the same reason, but it’s to protect Lois against the guy. She and Lois actually worked together to create an article on the guy and are actively blackmailing him.

I do find it very interesting how JPV is often framed as the "second son" after Dick and Helena is the "prodigal daughter" in this post-NML era. JPV is jealous of Dick's relationship and good standing with Bruce, Helena in turn at least once was jealous of JPV's relatively good standing, and Bruce seems to feel some kind of responsibility over her even though he does absolutely nothing but make her life worse. Also, Helena may be framed as Bruce's "prodigal daughter" but she's otherwise disconnected from any familial structure within the Bats - she doesn't have the fraternal-ish relationship framing that Dick & JPV have (albeit that one is very antagonistic, but they are both framed as the heirs to the Bat so it's all in how the writers talk about them). It's a weird, weird dynamic all around

HC'ing Atsumu as ace is great because he thinks he's so above all his teammates' shenanigans but for some reason the general public will not stop speculating about him and so his reputation is the worst out of them all. He does absolutely nothing and still people assign him game he does not have or want. People keep messaging him things no one should have to read. He is on his knees begging for them to pick someone who actually cares. He just wants to be good at volleyball and eat onigiri please.
