Hello, Sherlock Holmes adaptation writer. I have trapped you in this room. It is fully furnished and comfortable. On the table, you will notice a copy of A Scandal in Bohemia by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, of which redistribution is perfectly legal, as the work is in the public domain. You will notice it is rather thin. You have 24 hours to read the approximately 8,550 words in this story. To exit this room, all you must do is summarize the plot of the story without referring to Irene Adler as a seductress or implying she is attracted to Sherlock Holmes. Good luck.

Last night Low Cut Connie covered Little Richard and it got me thinking about how there's a timelessness to rock 'n' roll that gets lost on studio recordings, the way the stage functions as a kind of experiential equalizer, particularly in small clubs where production values tend to be similar and similarly unornamented. Recording technology and the accompanying production tastes and trends have changed so much since the 1950s, whereas the practice of amplifying and playing those instruments in a room of 50-500 drunk people ā while certainly not static ā remains unaltered at the level of fundamentals in such a way that the brunt sensory difference between hearing a song written/recorded in 1954 and one from 2004 becomes the least perceptible when they are performed live. Like I fully believe that if indie rock bands were covering "Lucille" or "Rip It Up" on the reg we'd have a thriving new generation of vintage rock 'n' roll aficionados. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. But a girl can dream!
This is compelling but how do we know for sure how little audiences experiences and perceptions of live music have changed so little? I donāt say this to call you out but to ask if you know anyone whoās old enough to compare and has described the comparison in writing or online, Iād love to see/read what they have to say
successfully got my bass teacher into fall out boy. mission accomplished boys
that sounds lit!! Iāve never heard fall out boy at a session (though we did do radiohead one time, and the middle another) but this is something iād love to see/hear/try
i hope this goes great and you come back with stories to tell or even recordings!
who on tumblr is having conversations about jam sessions and community learning and balancing looking to the past to learn from whatās been done with looking to the future to acknowledge how things are different
everybody struggles with promoting their art but iām just logging on to say iām part of that too
A blog of esoteric media criticism, laying siege to the Ivory Tower of academia from the gutters of pop culture
Isn't it weird how many stories lately feature villains trying to tap into alternate or simulated realities to reunite with loved ones? Let's take a tour of this multiverse full of dead relatives and what they have to say about our cultural moment.
i love dialogue in old comics where characters speak unnaturally and describe out loud the things theyre doing. reminds me of stage plays

iāve also reframed my relationship to jam sessions: i used to only go when i felt prepared, which inevitably lead to long breaks where i nev
Recorded myself playing at a local jazz jam and put my thoughts about practice consistency on top of it
The text at the bottom of my video basically says that I also used to refuse to go to jams unless I had prepared something to impress people. Now I go on a mostly set schedule regardless of what I practiced and just focus on building relationships with others, and everything about my experience is better for it: my musicianship, my relationships, and my headspace
What else do I care about enough to post on this blog? I donāt know any music theory nerds on here, I donāt know any sesame street fans, or people who live/work/play in my area, or saxophonists, or anybody but like two friends I can talk to offline lol. Itās not that Iām lonely on tumblr but I am realizing why my content here is so disproportionately shifted toward sex, and thatās because thatās the one topic i canāt put anywhere else so it has to to here. If I wanted to talk harmony, iād go to discord; groove, twitter; local events, facebook; etc
Cool thing about sex is the sense of play. one of the few spaces for adults to pursue things purely for joy and merriment. idk if my fiancƩe agrees but i be playin with them thangs silly putty, just touchin on em to see how they react. but i already know how they react lol
The other thing that makes sex playful is that it can be a space to not only experiment physically (āhow does this titty feel when i touch it like this? Letās repeat 1000x to be sureā) but also a space to try out different identities, relationship dynamics, and habits in a way that prioritizes the joy, ecstasy, and orgasms to be had in each.
I point this out because itās also something hard to talk about. I see so many sex conversations online where people (both the sexhavers and the commentators) define the person in terms of their perceived interests (eg āif youāre asking about butt stuff you must love butt stuff, stop pretending you donāt love butt stuffā). But if thereās play in sex then these things donāt have to be so deep or committal. You can just⦠play lol. I canāt break down the concept of play anymore than that
