‘it is a good word.’ dom smiled back at her before tilting head from side to side with a soft hum. ‘i want to... take you out on a really nice date. like really fancy. and then go home, whichever home has less people, and fuck till morning. what do you want to do?’

“You know… I think you may love me.” She teased with a grin. “Pretty much from the moment I set eyes on you at the club, I was a goner.” Octavia ran her hands through his hair before letting out a sigh. “Feeling any better?”

‘word on the street is, i love you.’ dom sighed out deeply as she brushed her fingers through his hair and melted at her touch with a nod. ‘i’m always better when you’re around.’

“make that face but we both know if it was one of your “best friends” you’d be thrilled.” she teased. “was it with one mr. albus severus potter? and maybe. one or two.”

‘are you trying to tell me something right now?’ dom tilted his head, wondering which of his bastard friends she was talking about. ‘yup, that was albus. and hopefully never thomas again.’

she held him tight, resting her head against his chest. “please, don’t stop. i love hearing that you love me. almost as much as i love saying that i love you.” she rolled her eyes before playfully swatting him. “ugh, i’m not ready to be a mum. i am sorry it took so long… and a few makeout sessions with nate to find my way.”

‘i love you! i love you! and guess what? i love you!’ dom grinned widely, leaning down to meet her lips all over again. ‘i forgive you. at least you find your way to me eventually, and that’s all that matters in the end.’

“yeah.” he said with a sigh. it wouldn’t do well to lie at this point. “who fucking knows. i was still with mercer technically at the time so clearly lily and i haven’t grown at all while apart.”

‘that’s not the best news i’ve ever heard. hm. what’s the next step here?’

“not sure that’s entirely what it is but i’ll  blame it all on it as well.” he said softly. rand looked towards dom before rolling his eyes. “yeah, you know them and it’s exactly who you think it is.”

‘lily?’ he asked, eyes widening as he met randolph’s gaze before dropping it with a sigh. ‘what about ivan?’

“the prettiest.” she echoed, leaning up to kiss him. “who knows. maybe randolph and mercer still have a chance? i can’t see the future but lily will find rand and he will find her.” she looped her arms around dom’s neck. “i saw him making eyes at ava during the party so who knows what’ll happen between miro and venus.”

dom lowered his head to meet her lips with a soft sigh, almost forgetting about everyone else. ‘mmm, i love you. i love you so much more when you say things like making eyes at. it makes you sound like a real mum, honestly, sort of like a grandmum. i hope our friends find their way. but i’m just glad to have you.’

“even if it was one of your friends?” she batted her eyelashes at her brother before laughing. “i’ve been pretty good. realize now while i liked him… i didn’t actually like him.”

‘especially if it was one of my friends.’ he squinted his eyes, not entirely meaning but also not, not meaning it. ‘that’s odd. but i’ve been there. got your eye on anyone or riding solo?’

“what the fuck kind of nonsense is that.” he took a long drag before looking over at his friend. “he was. still is. i liked him more than i’d liked anyone in a long while. as for the sex…. only once and it happened the night of the party.”

‘just graduation blues? that’s what i’m blaming it on. can you believe we’ve got to be proper adults in a few months?’ dom sighed and frowned at the sound of that, because he did believe that randolph deserved good. ‘oh yeah? anyone i know?’

“it’s alright. i’m the smart one in our relationship.” she teased. “i think so. ivan’s too sweet for her. they won’t last the month.” at venus and miro, she shrugged. “i’m not sure they are? miro isn’t one to make moves and venus is a little oblivious. maybe rand needs to lose himself before he finds himself.”

‘so long as i’m the pretty one.’ he teased right back. ‘ugh. you’re telling me randolph and mercer couldn’t last because he was too nice, lily and ivan won’t last because he’s too nice. so... that just leaves us with... lily and randolph getting back together without ever being together. so yeah, i reckon rand’s about to lose himself again and yet he’ll end up finding lily. our only hope is now miro and venus. we gotta make something happen, something good.’

“get your mind out of the gutter.” she said with a laugh before booping his nose. “can we just have you and me time? it’s been ages and while I love rand and I love tavi…. I miss just you and me.”

‘i’d kill anyone for doing the do with my baby sister.’ dom grinned cheekily, scrunching his nose before nodding eagerly at her request. ‘absolutely. i love them too, but i miss you and me too. how have you been holding up since the breakup, anyways?’

“who have we become?” he said with a half-hearted laugh. “that it is. as for me and mercer.” his voice faltered for a moment. “i broke it off. can’t remember what i said to him at the party but i know i tried to make a move. then we sort of talked about it and well… i need sex and he’s a virgin. there’s nothing wrong with that but… i knew i’d eventually pressure him and i didn’t want that.”

‘young adults having a midlife crisis is who we are.’ dom tapped off the end of his cigarette as he listened to rand talk with a slight frown. ‘he was too pure for you. that sucks, mate. did you like him? have you even had sex since?’

“us, mercer, and venus.” she corrected, a slight blush appearing on her cheek as he kissed it. “they really are. sometimes i wonder if things would be better if they just ran away together.” at the mention of his smoking, she frowned. “babe. don’t go down that path. it won’t bode well with anyone.”

‘how could i forget the purest of them all?’ he smiled sweetly, liking the sound of their little family as more people joined. ‘you think so? what about ivan? and miro? are miro and venus a thing now? do you reckon lily gets jealous?’ he nodded, nuzzling his face into her neck with a frown. ‘i know, love. i’m just trying to not let rand lose himself.’

“the answer to that will keep you up at night.” she teased. “i don’t even know.” darcy let out a sigh. “i’ve had my arse pretty much kicked by this week and just want a little fun.”

‘don’t make me gag!’ he gagged jokingly anyway before nodding, ‘let’s just go to the pub and see where the night takes us. we can invite the others later.’

“i gave it up.” he replied lamely before moving to bum a smoke off the other. “why is it so fucking cold? why has everything gone to shit? why am i such a goddamn mess? you should’ve seen the text thread between mercer and i the other day… downright embarrassing.”

‘i did too.’ damn replied handing rand a smoke, using the tip of his wand to light it before shrugging his shoulders and gazing out the window. ‘world’s just fucked up, nowadays. what happened with you and mercer? properly, this time. i haven’t asked because i was giving you time to process but it’s time. what happened?’

octavia shot him a soft smile as he slowed, running her hands through his hair as he rested against her shoulder. “seems everything’s gone to bullshit these days. wonder what’s wrong with the world.” she held his face in her hands as he wrapped his arm around her waist. “handling is about the best we can hope for. i feel like he’s our child and when it’s not him, it’s lily. as for me, i’m good. all in one piece, no nightmares. and you? besides this?” 

‘i think at this point, what isn’t wrong with the world. except us, we’re pure as ever.’ he smiled, leaning in to press a kiss to her cheek. ‘oh yeah. they are our children. our weird incesty children who keep trying to hook up. our family’s fucked up but it’s our own, y’know? i’m doing okay too, i started smoking again... like far too much and that needs to stop. but i reckon if my best mate’s on a downward spiral i sort of have to follow him down to pull him up.’
