Her cigarette rested between her lips. 

She took a drag out of it, smoke filling her lungs. It was like a warm hug inside. Like an artificial copy of the warm feeling he gave her. She pulled it away from her lips, then proceeding to throw it on the ground and put it out. A nude heel and a light, slightly muted stomp against the asphalt. 

Breathing out the smoke, she brushed her tears away. 

He had that smile, that goddamned smile. 

Seemingly, he was happy. Shawn smiled as he pulled the girl closer into a warm embrace, the same ones he used to give her. 

Mascara streaks down her face, yet she still looked beautiful. That’s at least what he told her every time she cried, but now it seems like empty words. 

Fingers threaded through his untamed, yet soft and fluffy curls. Y/n smiled, a bittersweet feeling coursing throughout her entire body. Twenty-one years of age, but she still hasn’t felt a pain as immense as this one. Leaning against her car, she watched as they slow danced together. His smile seemed even bigger than ever. 

He’s happy, she thought. 

Happy without her.

Yet what she didn’t know, he was missing her too. The girl in his arms, he knew could never love him with such warmth, she could never replace what he had before. But she would have to do.

Every time she passed him in the halls, his heart kept telling him to beg her for mercy. To stop tearing on his fragile heartstrings. She looked as beautiful as the day he met her, maybe even more. Her smile would light up his grey world, but then he remembered that he would never be the cause of it ever again. 

She seemed happy as she talked with her friends, laughing carelessly. Little did he know that she kept glancing at him, smiling sadly to herself. Y/n had guys everywhere, clinging onto her. Yet, she only yearned for him. He left her side, but never her mind.

She missed him, 

and he missed her. 

Yet, they let themselves get in over their heads.
