Concept: reverse crowns. Any time the head of state speaks in an official capacity or appears at an official function, they’re required to wear a large, ridiculous-looking hat in order to remind them of their place. If people ever start to treat the hat as an object of dignity because of its association with the head of state, it’s immediately retired and replaced with an even more undignified one.
@bluebandedagate replied:
You can’t stop people’s desire to associate stuff royals do with respectability - just look at those ridiculous platform shoes men wore in the 1600s just because the french king wore them so he wouldn’t look short. Before you know it, ridiculous hats will be all the rage
You know what, I think that’s a side effect I’d be willing to live with
I mean, either we succeed in draining all the dignity out of the office, or shit like chicken hats become articles of high fashion. I don’t know about you, but I call that win-win.
Honestly, “is X a furry” discourse is a perfect example of why decomposing media into simple checklists of tropes isn’t a useful critical lens. Furry fandom is a subculture, and they don’t use set-in-stone rules to decide which pieces of media are of interest; no matter what sort of checklist you come up with, you’re going to find examples of media that tick most or all of your boxes and have little or no cultural intersection with furry fandom – and conversely, media that has considerable cultural intersection with furry fandom in spite of ticking practically none of those boxes.
Basically, you can’t trope-checklist your way to a definitive answer to “is X a furry” because it’s not a question for a taxonomist, it’s a question for an anthropologist.
“Isn’t this all a little hard to believe?”
“I can think of a lot of things that are hard to believe. What part do you mean?”
“That the fate of the world depends on twelve people in a rented office suite whose coffee machine doesn’t even work.“
“What would you find more believable?”
“I don’t know, something… grander?
“You know, the first incarnation of this group had an actual palace? Extra-dimensional strongholds and snazzy colour-coded jumpsuits and badges that hurt your eyes if you looked at them for too long.“
“What happened to them?”
“They turned out to be cultists of the Bleak Powers. Every last one of them. The only reason they didn’t destroy the universe themselves is because each cell thought they were the only ones, and they wasted all their resources hiding from each other. Cleanup was an incredible pain in the ass.”
“Okay, but surely there’s a middle ground between that and… well, this.”
“It’s been tried – many times. The iteration before us was a government agency. Do you want to know how long they lasted?”
“I have a feeling you’re about to tell me.”
“Their director sold out to the Bleak Powers in just a little under thirty-eight minutes. I’m given to understand it was a new record.”
“So what’s special about you lot? Why don’t you go the same way?”
“This is a profession that self-selects for lack of ambition. Each person in this office wants nothing more than to be left alone, and that’s the one thing the Bleak Powers will never permit. We’re prepared to move Heaven and Earth – and beyond, if necessary – for a little peace and quiet, and we think you are, too.“
“What makes you so sure?”
“You once switched grocery stores because the checkout clerks at the old one started to recognise you.”
“I– well, I mean, that could just be social anxiety.”
“We have a sense for this sort of thing.”

Women Self Defense in 1947
I’m not sure what’s the best part of this video: the fact that she’s in heels, the fact that she does the whole thing looking like she don’t give a fuck, that chick in the back just exercising and enjoying the show, or the fact that both men and women are observing this and the girls are laughing and the guys look concerned/pensive as fuck as they watch all their tactics get shut down like nothing is even happening.
… msties is it just me or is this familiar?
Some of these are moves I haven’t seen before.
Some of this looks similar to the self defense I learned in a course three or four years ago. It’s definitely got some judo in it (arm bars, throws, fighting to and from the ground). I love this lady. She is rad. I feel like she, much like the rad lady I had as my self defense teacher, would also warn the women that if they don’t think they can gouge out someone’s eyes, don’t start trying because you’ll attack better with something you can follow through on.
crimelords I’m sorry I couldn’t not reblog this for you
The cheerful music makes it even better
a bold but necessary take
A dating service where matching is based on people’s search history exists. You’re a serial killer. You go on a date with a writer.
Serial Killer: metaphorically, if you were to kill someone, how would you do it?
Writer: Air shot between the toes, it’ll look like a heart attack.
Serial Killer who is obviously in love already: *sucks in a breath* ok
Writer: how long would it take to die if you were to potentially stab someone in the guts
Serial killer: anywhere from 2 to 30 minutes
Writer, already bringing a ring out: *shaking* thanks
A++ addition
Writer: *shows the serial killer the murder scene they’re writing* babe, i’m not sure if this would actually work?
Serial killer: *kisses writer on the forehead and leaves, comes back later, a suspicious scent of blood coming off them* it works baby, you’re doing great
I LOVE THIS
Oh no, murder comedy is my jam
I love this, I love all of this, but quick question, does the author know? Like are they aware that their significant other is a serial killer or do they just think that they have a morbid sense of humor? It’d be even funnier if the author had no fucking clue, like how Aurthur Conan Doyle was apparently stupidly gullible, and on top of it they’re a horror or crime novelist. Like the serial killer works at a butcher shop or something so it’s completely normal for them to come home smelling like blood, no murders going on here, no sirey. Just my darling coming back home from a long day at work.
Now fast forward a bit and the author has managed to get their first book published, with loving support from the serial killer who helped them fine tune all the murder scenes, and it’s a big hit. Enough so that a detective with the local police department has noticed some disturbing similarities to several active cases, including details that were never released to the press. Obviously he brings this up to his superior and convinces him that there’s something to the theory, but it’s all circumstantial right now. He stakes out the author’s home and is super convinced that the author is the murderer, but they don’t seem to do anything??? Like they literally are at the house all day, that’s it. Most they do is leave for groceries.
So you get this dynamic of the serial killer mining the author for creative murder schemes, the author being lovingly encouraged by the serial killer, and finally the detective who is just so sure that the author is the killer and that if he sticks it out long enough he’ll FINALLY have proof.
Plot twist, The serial killer and detective use to go out so it gets sub what personal.
“You need to stop seeing them. I think they are a serial killer.”
Serial killer breaths in. “Look-”
…perfect
I don’t like actual murder mysteries, but this is perfect

BREAK THE INTERNET: Net neutrality defenders plan mass online protest 48 hours before FCC vote
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 9, 2017 Contact: Evan Greer, [email protected], 978-852-6457
Twitter users will “Break the Internet” by auto-tweeting every 10 minutes starting Tuesday. Sites like Reddit, GitHub, Pintrest, Etsy, Imgur, Pornhub, BitTorrent, and Patreon are already helping drive calls to Congress
The unprecedented public backlash to the FCC’s plan to slash Title II net neutrality protections continues to grow. After thousands of people took to the streets to protest last week, Internet users, websites, apps, and online forums are preparing to participate in “Break the Internet,” a mass online protest that will start on December 12, two days before the FCC vote scheduled for December 14. The protest is demanding that Congress take action to stop the FCC vote.
See the announcement for the protest here: https://www.breaktheinternetprotest.org
The protest will take many forms on social media, apps, and websites across the Internet. Thousands of Twitter users have already signed up to #BreakTheInternet by using a tool built by Fight for the Future that allows users to automatically tweet about net neutrality every 10 minutes starting 48 hours before the FCC vote, blanketing the platform with calls to contact congress. Facebook and LinkedIn users will “break” their profiles by changing their relationship status to “Married” (to net neutrality) or adding a new “job” of “Defending Net Neutrality.” Websites and apps will participate by doing something to “break” their platform and encourage their users to contact Congress.
Websites, startups, apps and businesses large and small are already helping drive phone calls to Congress using creative widgets, modals, and banners that show what the Internet might look like if ISPs can control what users do with throttling, censorship, and new fees.
Sites helping sound the alarm include Imgur, Mozilla, Pinterest, Reddit, GitHub, Etsy, BitTorrent, Pornhub, Patreon, Funny Or Die, Speedtest, Fiverr, Cloudlfare, Opera, Trello, the Happy Wheels game, DeviantArt, AnimeNewsNetwork, and BoingBoing. See some screenshots of actions sites are already taking in the lead-up to the vote here.

Hello Changeling Backers! We're officially in the FINAL DAYS of this kickstarter campaign. It's been a tremendous success so far, and there's still more to go! I'm expecting the campaign to get even more exciting as we approach the end. With that in mind, I wanted touch on some of the basics to make sure that everyone has got all of their information in order. For New & Recent Backers: While every update has been fascinating and insightful (if I do say so myself...), there are a few key updates that you may want to read to gain full knowledge of this campaign.Update # 18 dealt with Reward Tiers, and is your best starting point for figuring out which Backer Reward Level to choose to help support this project.Update #19 covered Add-Ons, the second step in calculating your Total Pledge Level (Reward Tier + Shipping + Add-Ons) that'll give you all of the rewards you're looking for.Update #17 has all 4 parts of the Changeling: The Lost second edition manuscript preview. That's right - the complete rules for the game are available to you when you pledge your support to this project. We'll all be waiting a bit for the finished product (after art and layout), but we're able to start playing the game NOW!With those important topics covered, there are a few final areas to discuss. Over the next few days, I'll post updates covering: Stretch Goals (today's topic) Being an Ambassador What Happens Next STRETCH GOALSAs the campaign progresses and more and more backers join in, we're able to add "stretch goals" which are additional rewards automatically added to certain pledge levels as a thank you. With two exceptions (detailed further down), all Stretch Goal rewards will become part of your final rewards allocation if you have pledged to a Reward Tier that includes the Changeling: The Lost 2nd Edition Core Book PDF (that's all Reward Tiers of $25 or greater). Looking at the current list of Stretch Goals achieved, that means - in addition to the rewards listed as part of your Reward Tier - you will receive: CHANGELING: THE LOST fiction anthology featuring seasonal-themed novellas CHANGELING: THE LOST Rules Companion - a PDF supplement with additional rules, suggestions, guidelines and discussion on key topics for the second edition of this game and setting. CHANGELING: THE LOST themed d10 dice for the OnyxDice app (available for both android and iOs ) CHANGELING: THE LOST Jumpstart kit, with a rules and a setting overview, as well as pre-generated characters and a complete introductory scenario to help launch your new chronicle Two Exceptions: Stretch Goals that will be rewarded based on Reward Tier or via Add-OnARCADIAN MEMORIES - Only backers who have pledged to a reward tier that contains the Arcadian Memories digital PDF bundle will receive the first-edition titles included in the bundle. Reward Pledge levels including the Arcadian Memories bundle are: Warrior of the Silent Arrow ($10) Defender of the Silent Arrow ($35) Sentinel of the Silent Arrow ($60) Disciple of the Antler Crown ($80) Otherwise the only way to receive this bundle is to include it as an Add-On to your total pledge level (see Update #19, which details how to increase your total pledge level).KITH & KIN - Only backers receiving a physical, printed version of the CHANGELING: THE LOST 2ND EDITION CORE BOOK HARDCOVER (that's all reward tiers of $50 or greater) will receive this PDF supplement detailing additional rules, guidelines, discussion and examples of kith and related topics for the Changeling setting.Otherwise the only way to receive this bundle is to include it as an Add-On to your total pledge level (see Update #19, which details how to increase your total pledge level).SO: Double check your Reward Tier (see Update #18 for more information on Reward Tiers). If you're getting a PDF, you're getting most of the additional stretch goal rewards. If you're getting the Arcadian Memories bundle, you'll receive all PDF titles that have been added to that bundle. If you're receiving a hardcover copy of the rules as a reward, you'll receive the Kith and Kin PDF supplement. If you are not automatically receiving the Arcadian Memories bundle or Kith & Kin supplement, you may add it as an Add-On to your total pledge level (see Update #19).In addition to providing bonus rewards, the stretch goals are also making these rewards - and actually the core book - bigger and better. One of our earliest achieved Stretch Goals was to increase the art budget for the CHANGELING: THE LOST second edition core rules, so that we can feature even more evocative art in the main project. The ARCADIAN MEMORIES PDF bundle started with 7 titles from the first edition of the Changeling: The Lost game line. It's now up to 10 PDFs and sure to climb higher before we reach the conclusion of the campaign. The Changeling: The Lost Companion PDF has had three sections added, covering Entitlements, Freeholds, and Courts! Further stretch goals may add more sections still. The Kith & Kin PDF supplement has also been expanded, by three Regalia-themed sections so far (covering Crown, Jewels, and Mirror). An addition for the Shield Regalia is on the horizon, with Steed and Sword expansions as upcoming stretch goals that we'll hopefully see.ACHIEVING STRETCH GOALSThe key to crowdfunding is to have as many backers as possible contributing to help fund the project. The pledge of each additional backer reduces the per backer share of the costs of the project and allows for the funding of further stretch goals. example with imaginary numbers:That is to say, if there are 100 backers pledging toward a project that costs $1,000 to create, each of the 100 backers must cover a $10 cost. Imagine that each backer therefore pledges $10 to make this happen - the project is funded and can be made! But, if there are 200 backers in this scenario, each backer now only needs to cover $5 of the total cost. Now, the creators can use the extra funds from those $10 pledge to expand the project, or create additional rewards or other offerings.(Keep in mind that, as backer numbers increase, some of these additional funds will be used to cover growing operational costs such as shipping and warehousing, as well as manufacturing more of the project, which will also increase proportionally. So it's not as straightforward as "double the number of backers" = "double the funds available" but more like "more backers" = "some more funds available".)As we gain backers, we re-invest any available portion back into the project and community and add further rewards as a thank-you for your supporting pledge. So, the best way to get the most out of your pledge is to invite more backers to join! And every backer who joins in as we approach the end is not only able to enjoy the additional rewards already added by the early fans and backers, but also help reward those early backers by expanding everyone's stretch goal rewards! So, as every update concludes: let's keep the enthusiasm rolling! Keep spreading the word and letting others know about this project. They've only got a few more days to jump in and share the SIXTEEN (soon to be SEVENTEEN) Stretch Goals we've already achieved!Just like in the Changeling game and setting, this is our story now. We've broken through the hedge. What happens next?100 HOURS LEFT. Let's make them count.- James
