Well, nice knowin’ ya.
Thank you so much to everyone who followed my blog these last couple of years. I’m glad I could share my “naughty thoughts” with others and use this wonderful platform to share, explore, expand, and yes, validate my tastes and likes. I evidently have two weeks to decide where to go from here.
I can delete anything that violates the new rules, and become a nice, tame, family friendly blog. On the internet. Where porn is literally everywhere. Yeah, no thanks. Unlike the management at Tumblr I can see how utterly pointless and sanctimonious that would be.
I can download everything I’ve ever blogged, reblogged, or liked on Tumblr. All 700 posts, 8,332 likes, and 725 drafts. It’s not possible to rescue all this before it gets taken down. That’s the whole point of a microblogging site, to STORE what you can’t keep on your private computer.
I can delete my account to spare myself the humiliation of a TOTAL STRANGER reviewing all my most prurient, sexual, taboo, forbidden thoughts. Even the drafts none of my followers have seen because I wanted them to be just right, but which SOMEONE has seen already because they are now flagged. This option is certainly tempting.
I usually keep private thoughts OFF this blog, because nobody comes here for political opinions and such...but there is something genuinely upsetting about the thought of some salaried employee of Tumblr, Oath or Verizon being literally PAID to JUDGE my content as something OTHER people should not see. One cannot be a censor without laying eyes on the very thing one is trying to erase.
The internet is the most important invention since the printing press for democratizing information. In a free society, this MUST include sexuality. People self-harm and even kill themselves on a daily basis because they feel alienated, afraid, or ashamed of their sexuality. Tumblr is part of the biggest library in history (the internet), and you are about to tell every one of those unhappy people that they are RIGHT to hate themselves by burning all my books.
As far as I know, it is not possible to see adult content without a membership and confirming you are the legal age to see adult content.
As far as I know, I have not broken any laws in any part of the country where I live, whose laws I am subject to.
For the most part, I have avoided reblogging “mainstream” content on the off chance that someone finds their way to something they DON’T want to see, on what I unashamedly admit is a very adult oriented page with peculiar tastes. I have already self-censored when I thought it was a responsible thing to do.
We are ALL adults here. Being an adult means being qualified to decide for YOURSELF what you should see or not see, and allowing others to do the same. So whoever gets paid to erase all my hard work from the Internet, I don’t envy you that job. I’m leaving it ALL up, because whatever you might think of it, I think it’s important for you to see what you and your company are willfully destroying.
