Once again so proud! 3-6 grade autism class heard this music and began performing their isolation warm up by themselves. They are using correct timing and locomotor movements. #danceattakoma #autismawareness #autistastic #brilliance! #moventures
Congrats on your first day of school Falcons! I hope you are ready for a year of greatness. Remember: "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages." What is your part and how will you leave an impression this year?
So you think Ballet is just for girls? Well these University of South Carolina Football Players take ballet not only to learn to be more flexible and agile, but also to learn more about culture. What do you think about this?
Just a taste of what you can expect at our African Dance and Drum Workshop with Matiga Koba on June 6!

Please take a bow! Congrats to Misty Copeland, the first African American female Principal Dancer for the American Ballet Theater. A true example of Hard work, perseverance, and dedication. I will what I want.
Hope you're having a wonderful summer. Make sure you dance!
If it isn't love? Some of my fave 6th graders, but what happened to my "best friend" back there. I'm so proud of the work that you have all done and the confidence that you have shown in dance even when you didn't "like it" and didn't "like me." I know next year we will raise the barre 😁and learn even more. Here's to continued growth next year in maturity, in academics and in Dance! See you you in August Falcons! #danceattakoma #danceeducator #dancer #teacher #lastday #selfiestick #timetosaygoodbye #6thgrade #7thgrade
If you need a smile this morning...thank me later! My kindergarten class was #goingin thank you to my sixth graders that danced all day, played DJ and motivated the little ones to dance, even though you were done by the time these babes came in. #feildday #dance #dancestation #improv #improvisation #kindergarten #passion #living #dancing #love #life SOMETIMES WE JUST HAVE FUN!!!
My kids trying to teach me this dance??? If you know me you know I DO NOT do hip hop, but I try it for the kids. We learn together. #buildmeafort LOL #iguess. #danceattakoma
I don't usually do this, but... #Goodmorning Takoma! It's hump day and yes YOU EARNED IT!!!
#Morninghinge. #justwarmingup. I had to post this because last Friday I straight up had a whole conversation with my lyrical class while in a hinge. Like I was just sipping tea and reading the paper. I had to prove to myself it wasn't a fluke and share #istillgotitboo LOL #goodmorning #hingeforlife #lowa #lower #holdit #youstillgotit #dancer #danceeducator #danceattakoma
Students in 6th Grade dance elective completing their dance composition projects. They had a great time working together and it was such a pleasure to watch. The students were to work collaboratively while incorporating locomotor and non-locomotor movement, levels and pathways in space, a clear beginning and ending with each dancer performing in unison unless performing a cannon or solo.
Some times you just have to #letitgo #frozen #danceattakoma Ms. Thorpe's class changing spacing while working collaboratively and following along with the Frozen theme song.
5th graders learned some basic hip hop movements and worked collaboratively to create their own phrases. Here is one. So proud of these ladies. They always put forth their best effort. Great work.
8b working on their old school hip hop dances. I'm always amazed at their creativity with space and I love how you manipulated the "scooby doo" phrasing.
There's a whole lot going on in the dance studio at Takoma. Check out the 6th graders practicing the hip hop dance they choreographed. I'm very proud that 99%of the students were engaged and thinking critically about creating this dance. Next time we'll face the back of the room so I can see everyone.
