So what do you do around here?
kitten’s tale | kaegan + hunter
camdenhunter:
At this point, Hunter wasn’t sure if he should focus on the kitten or his brother. Cats were adorable, but the two of them hadn’t seen each other for so long and it’d only make sense to center his attention on Kaegan. “You know, I’m happy to see you again…” he said in a soft voice, biting down his lips shortly. You could be feel-y around family, right?
Even if it wasn’t too obvious, he sensed how things turned more awkward with his attention on Kaegan, but he should probably have guessed. However, Hunter had spent the last few years completely away from the world where awkward even existed - it felt a little weird getting back into. There wasn’t much to do.
The way Kaegan picked up the kitten and pressed their noses together were absolutely adorable. It could melt any heart, he was sure of that. “You could always call her Hunter,” he suggested. They were both horrible at names and they knew it. How were they even gonna come up with a name for this ball of fur? “You know, because she looks adorable and like she could kill at the same time.”
Kaegan hummed softly at Hunter’s confession, looking over at him. “I’m happy to see you, too,” he murmured, gently bumping their shoulders together with a fond grin over at him. He knew that admitting stuff like that wasn’t always the easiest for Hunter, so he just went with it, not calling too much attention to him.
An easy laugh left him at Hunter’s suggestion, and he arched an eyebrow. “Did you just call yourself adorable?” he asked playfully, settling the kitten back down into his lap and petting her only for her to quickly scamper back to Hunter. “Hm....Huntress?” he questioned, mostly thinking out loud as he leaned back to lay on the bed, stretching slightly, absently nudging against Hunter with his foot.
“Or maybe something similar to Huntress. Like...Fuck. I dunno.” He huffed out a slow breath. “...Artemis? Is it totally pretentious to name a tiny kitten after the Greek Goddess of hunting? Is that giving her too much of a legacy to live up to?” He was grinning, a bit of laughter twining with his words as he turned his head to look up at Hunter.
jm–puckerman:
Nope, and near my sister and nephew.
Oh man, kids make everything better.
dancingclaring:
Oh, wow. Well I’m glad you can go back soon!
I know I’ll feel like hell in a couple days, but at least I’ll be comfortable in my damn bed.
True. Not much else beats being in your bed.
kitten’s tale | kaegan + hunter
camdenhunter:
So Kaegan’s place wasn’t looking too bad. Actually, it didn’t look bad at all, but whatever - it didn’t matter. The only thing that really mattered was how happy his brother look when he entered. Hunter tried to ignore the fact that he probably smiled just as stupidly and wide. If it wasn’t for the dark little ball of fur, he probably would have moved to join Kaegan and said ball of fur in bed, yet here he was. And it didn’t really matter, the kitten has come to him, all by itself. Some of his masculine ego was able to be kept intact. Hunter didn’t say a word when he leaned down to pick up the kitten, simply placed it in his arms and snuggled it close to his chest for a couple of seconds.
He didn’t let go of the kitten, but his eyes and attention moved back to his brother. There was something about him, something Hunter couldn’t quite put a finger on, but this something had changed. Maybe it was simply because they hadn’t seen each other for a while, but he swore there was something.
Figuring out that it didn’t matter, not for now at least, he moved to sit on the edge of the bed, where the kitten would crawl out of his arms and towards Kaegan again, causing another small smile to find a way to his lips. “It’s manly to be liked by cats, shh,” he mumbled before ruffling Kaegan’s hair. “But I don’t know? Which direction are you thinking, you want to go with this little snuggle bug?”
The smile that Hunter gave matching his own had a warmth settling in Kae’s chest, and he watched as the other stooped down to scoop up the kitten and cuddled it close. Times like this when he was able to see Hunter more relaxed around him always made him happy; he knew he had a tendency to act different around others, and it was a relief to be able to see Hunter relax for once.
When the other’s attention switched from the cat to him, however, Kaegan glanced away for a moment. Attention focused on him when he wasn’t dancing always made him feel a little awkward, and now was no exception, even when it was just his brother and they were just spending time together. When the edge of the bed dipped with Hunter’s weight, however, he looked up at him again, quickly smiling and forgetting about it. This was Hunter, there was no reason to feel uncomfortable, he silently scolded himself.
A quiet laugh left him at Hunter’s mumble, and he quickly tried to move out of the way of his brother’s hand, grumbling playfully as his hair was mussed, reaching up to push his fingers through it in some sort of effort to sort it out. “Mm, I don’t know,” he mused, gently picking up the kitten and going nose to nose with her. “I want to give her a good name, but she’s so little. Anything too big and it’ll just be weird.”
kitten’s tale | kaegan + hunter
camdenhunter:
There was a lot of things Hunter were willing to do for his little brother. Admitting how a few minutes of age difference didn’t really make any difference was not one of those things. But did the task have anything to do with hiding, petting, naming or communicating with cats in any way, Hunter was more than down. Not only did he enjoy Kaegan’s company, but it meant he got a chance of being himself for a couple of hours. No more hiding, no more anything. Oh, and there were a cat. Cats were nice.
It didn’t take him long to arrive at his brother’s place, but as the two hadn’t seen each other for a while, the whole knocking the door thing seemed a lot harder. Why would he even knock? He could just walk in and meet this famous kitten. That could be a pretty solid move. No awkward waiting, no awkward anything. Just plain, simple ‘I am Hunter Clarington and I just walked into your room, what ‘cha gonna do about it?’ solid.
“You’re definitely in charge of mending my fragile broken heart, heart breaker,” was what he ended up saying as he walked in. ‘Hi’ was simply overrated, and Kaegan knew he was a dork, so there was no use in hiding it. “Where’s the cat? I want to meet the cat. Please let me meet the cat.”
Kae wouldn’t deny it; he was excited. He and Hunter hadn’t really spent much time together lately, and he missed his brother. He hadn’t been out of the shower long when the other arrived, slouched down on his bed in a pair of shorts and a too-large hoodie, hair still damp, kitten curled up on his lap as he carded his fingers gently through her dark fur. He raised his head as his door opened, a wide, happy smile spreading over his lips as he laughed quietly. “Well, get over here then. Most sources say that cuddling is a good remedy, so as long as it’s not too big a blow to your masculine ego, come here,” he teased, shifting gently.
A hand rested on top of the kitten as Hunter continued, but the little cat had perked up as soon as another person had entered the room. A tiny, high pitched meow sounded from Kaegan’s lap, and she quickly wiggled away and scampered down the bed, flopping inelegantly off the mattress to pad over to Hunter. Kae watched as she sniffed his shoe, then rubbed against him, giving a gentle “Aw.”
“Guess she likes you,” he mused fondly, watching them for a moment, before sitting up properly, settling cross-legged and pushing the sleeves of his hoodie up. “So. Names. Help me please,” he requested almost sheepishly, shrugging slightly.
camdenhunter:
Nope. Definitely choosing to be hurt about this forever. And really? You’re probably going to regret this. But I rather liked Cat and Mr. Puss, though the public called them ‘awful’. I suppose we’ll come up with the most awesome name ever.
Does this mean I’m gonna have to find a way to mend your fragile broken heart? Maybe I will, but if I whine enough you probably won’t be too annoying. I thought they were cute. Now come help me name my kitten.
jm–puckerman:
First round of chemo, doing better though going back to my place probably tomorrow.
Oh, wow. Well I’m glad you can go back soon!
elianapuckerman:
That’s so cute.
Yeah, she’s pretty great. Oh, I’m Kae by the way; nice to meet you.
elianapuckerman:
KEEP! Kittens are the best.
I think she mostly made that decision for me; she’s been napping on me all day.
jm–puckerman:
You have more faith than I do, but no worries I won’t turn you in. I’m not even at school at the moment.
Thanks, man. What are you up to?
jm–puckerman:
Well you could’ve hidden it if you hadn’t announced you found it.
I have faith in my fellow students to not turn me in for my kitten.
camdenhunter:
You’re breaking my heart. So if I were to come over later today, that’d be totally cool? And if you claim to be awful at names, remember my last two cats were named Cat and Mr. Puss. But I will totally help you out.
I’m sure you’ll find some way to go on, brother dear. Yeah, definitely! Just turn up whenever you like, I’ll be here. Oh, shit, I forgot about that. Maybe our awful naming skills will cancel each other out and we’ll find a great name. Two negatives make a positive right?
camdenhunter:
What? I totally thought the list of reasons was endless. Now… when can I meet this kitty?
Nope, sorry. My favoritism is won over by help hiding kittens. Ha, anytime you like! Also I need help naming her. We both know I’m awful at names.
camdenhunter:
But really, if it’s against the rules, I’ll help you hide it.
And this is why you’re my favorite.
camdenhunter:
Nerd.
I may be a nerd, but I’m also a nerd with a kitten.
So uh, what exactly are the rules for pets at this school, cause I just found a kitten while I was on a run and I’m facing a deep moral dilemma of whether or not to take this little baby to a shelter or keep her as my own.
